hey everyone,

here's a random story of misery....i went to my local Asda (Wal Mart equivilent in the UK to you guys across the pond) for some reason they had 10, 40gig backwards compatible ps3's that they had to get rid of (the guy didn't explain why fully, but there was some odd reason!) going for £105, add to that a 10 percent discount i could get through a friend....but alas i was half an hour late. All gone!!! :( :( :(

i had resigned to waiting for the slim ps3 to finally take the plunge and get one, but getting one for just over 90 quid would have been amazing.

i was pi&*^d off for a bit after that i can tell you. would have been perfect with Fury so close to release.

I wonder if they were Supplied by the company EUK. I know they supplied supermarkets with games not sure if they did hardware or not or if it would even work the same way.

Basically I got Fallout 3 and Farcry 2 for 6 quid each at Morrisons and the explanation for the cheapness was that since EUK went bust the stock was instantly de-valued. They send games back to the supplier once the said game falls out of the top 20 in the charts, I guess they had no one to send them back too however I don't see how that would work with a console.

the guy at the counter did try to explain it, something about stock been zeroed and they needed to get rid of them...i'm not sure...kinda lost interest when he said they had all gone! :(

This is just a random event that happened while i went to my gamestop to get wipeout pure. So my brother and I were getting into his truck and randomly out of nowhere a flash flood starts near where I live so we think that we would be able to beat it because the gamestop is only 10 minutes away from my house. So as my brother is driving we notice all the main roads are getting flooded so my brother decides to just go through and we eventually make it to the gamestop before the streets got flooded. We enter and start looking for pure because I called them ten minutes before we left and they said they had a copy for $6.99 we ask the lady at the counter only to find that someone bought the copy five minutes ago. Just when I think that the trip was a waste my brother notices that they had one copy of Pulse for 9.99 on sale so i bought that. As we walk out of the store the sky is clear and its not raining anymore and most of the streets are dry. I really hate how the weather changes in randomly in Las Vegas.

hello

i'm bored and feeling down

i have all these things i want to say but i cannot remember any of them

gutted

JT took his time to make a statement about his future didn't he. he probably did what gerrard did a few years back - nearly joined megabucks before deciding it was a better idea to stay put where he was revered, and probably eke some more money out of his club who want their talisman to stay into the bargain

still the summer's not over. i hope he doesn't join citeh though; top heavy and even more classless with champ man moneys then chelsea were

also what's with investors, sheikhs, oligarchs, franchise owners etc. buying up every club in england now - notts county? ****ing bangor city? perhaps they're planning to make a 50 team premiership, or maybe 3 premierships or something; or maybe - no! crazy idea - but wait, maybe, just maybe, they're trying to tap into the vast revenue pool generated by tv money and merchandise from british football fans?

:nod

weird what football has become

wow mega-rant

bye now

Its was absouloutly disgusting, it had vinny jones in it as a psychopath killer and he just killed people in the most graphic ways you can imagine and there was a bit in the film when he hit a man in the back of the head with a meat tenderising hammer so hard, both of his eyeballs flew out of the front of his head.

It was definatley the most nasty horrific film i have ever seen, and im never gonna get on a late train again:nod

While having a late night snack yesterday, a large piece of one of my teeth fell out. 2nd upper molar, left side. I have an old amalgam filling it that tooth, and that is probably partly if not fully responsible for this. Many of my friends around my age have had to have their old amalgam fillings replaced with the new porcelain fillings.

Price of dental care being what it is here, I could really use my students' discount (25%), but I only paid my fees yesterday and it will be at least 4-5 days if not longer until I recieve the new student ID card valid for this semester. At least the missing bit of the tooth is just annoying, and not painful. So now I wait, and hope I can get by with a porcelain filling and don't have to get a crown or whatever it's called when you pull the old tooth and put in a fake one.

FML...

Rachel Johnson
17th August 2009, 02:51 PM
@okam Yeesh. I know how you feel with that one. I had a chunk fall out of one of mine and I can't afford to go to the dentist either. I had to make do with one of those awful temporary DIY dental kits. The only dentists around here charge stupid prices. I can't even get discounts, because Incapacity Benefit doesn't cover it. Ugh.

Lance
17th August 2009, 02:54 PM
If the filling falls out, then the remaining natural part of the tooth has no support; biting something firm could easily break the remaining bits. Don't chew on ice to keep cool!

blackwiggle
17th August 2009, 03:18 PM
I thought that would be obvious Lance.

The only previous advice I have taken from any forum member regarding dental matters was from Stinkelroy.

It was very good advise [That's on the proviso that you were not expected to make a speech].....CLOVE OIL is DEAD Numbing to the tooth & somewhat unexpectedly [unless forewarned] to your tongue and every other part of ones mouth.

Not the greatest training speech I've ever performed.:turd

Rachel Johnson
17th August 2009, 03:21 PM
I remember clove oil being somewhat nice tasting. It's just a shame I had a mishap with that involving my cheek, my teeth and a horrendously long wait to have my mouth seen to at the hospital. These days I don't use it anymore. Having a nice taste certainly does not outshine the mouth-related injury risks. :P

Lance
17th August 2009, 03:37 PM
blackwiggle, of course it's obvious, but that doesn't mean that I haven't ignored the danger and foolishly chewed on ice, anyway, :D

okam
18th August 2009, 12:24 AM
* pictures blackwiggle drooling heavily infront of a crowd * Hahaha :P

Most of my amalgam filling is still intact, its part of the actual tooth that fell out (allthough there is a bit of amalgam attached to the bit that came off). No exposed nerves I think, at least no pain while eating or drinking today, and I had ice cream, ice cold water, and hot tea in addition to hot meals. I didn't chew on that side, but I'm sure something must have touched that one tooth during the day, especially the liquids. I am a bit worried about more bits coming loose but when I checked in the mirror the rest looks solid enough. Just a bit of a rough edge around the "hole". SHould be OK while I wait for that student ID card.

BTW, "temporary DIY dental kits", what on earth are those? Like DIY filling? o.O

Prices are bad here, but not for everyone. Everyone gets free dental care until they turn 22, students get discounts (varies from place to place), pensioners and those on benefits or disability can get most of the cost covered, same if you need care due to illness (cancer) or you get in an accident (reconstructions, etc).

It's really only costly for otherwise healthy adults with paychecks (and students age 22+, of which I am one).

Rachel Johnson
18th August 2009, 12:42 PM
Aye, they are. A lot of Dental repair kits only last so long though, so you'll probably have no choice but to go see a dentist eventually. I've had to make do with using it, waiting for it to fail and re-using it.

mdhay
19th August 2009, 10:42 AM
Not exactly, employers tend to look for people with good qualifications, e.g diplomas, A*,1st degree's, that sort of stuff. It also helps to go in for higher education for 5+ years, because someone will appear more educated in, say, C++, than someone who has been in college for a week.:)

19th August 2009, 07:49 PM
I can only think that having a good degree is what got me my job. It certainly wasn't my (complete lack of) charisma, or the fact that I told my potential employer that I knew nothing about the job I was applying for. :? Come to think of it, it probably also wasn't the fact that one of my proposed solutions to the problem I was given appeared to be (based on my piss-poor sketch of it) a magical floating robot arm.....you could say an anti-gravity robot arm. hmmm...

I wouldn't worry yeldar, I got half decent results and your track record is way better than mine. The parents shouldn't be too annoyed if you don't get all As, which you probably will anyway.

Well, student ID finally arrived and I have been to the dentist. Need a root canal :(

The tooth actually started to hurt like a mother****er just as I was getting ready to leave this morning, so I am really glad I didn't wait longer before making the appointment!

The man did some serious work in there, cleaned and hollowed out the whole molar, stuck some root-uh, things down there, and filled it up with a temporary filling. Took about an hour and 20m of solid work. Have to go back for a checkup in 1 week, and a rebuilding of the tooth in 2 weeks.

Cost for the entire job incl. all materials is going to be about 415 euros / £360... that's with the 20% student discount.

Seeing the amount of work and mats involved I actually dont think the price is that bad. At least I will gladly pay to have a happy healthy tooth again (and may it last many many years).

Wow, that's some serious shizzle. A lady I used to work with had been in an obscure sect a few years before I met her. I have no idea how she got tangled up in that in the first place; she seemed like a strong, independent person to me, not someone who would "fall" for some "we are awesome!" happy clappy christian sect (as she briefly described them to me, allthough she didn't like to talk about it).

Anyway, after a while she managed to see that these people had a *bit* of a skewed look on life and religion, and left the group. She ended up in therapy for years after that just to wipe their "teachings" from her mind, and while I was working with her she would still get messages and visits from the people in the sect, basically they would come to her house to inform her that she was going to die a horrible death for leaving the group, all sorts of diseases and painful things would happen to her, her future children would be born deformed and live a life of suffering, really ****ing horrible stuff. Apparently the did once offer her to pay for her sins, and asked for some ridiculous amount of money to give her a blessing so that she could live happily ever after.

Happy clappy gang, for sure... and totally awesome. Until you break away from them. Not sure what happened in the end but I sure hope she managed to shake them off.

True story

I was in India for 8 months when I was ten.One day, I cut myself whilst playing. It was a bad cut, blood was everywhere and I was in panic but a servant kid, led me to his mud hut house. He then took a long twig from a plant and fished out a spiderweb from a corner of the room and applied on the cut. I stopped bleeding straight away! 2 mins later he pulls the excess webbing off and my cut had sealed itself. I can still make out a very feint marking of a scar if Iook!

I had a look at Wiccan after I found that a few decades of agnosticism seemed overly featureless and lacking in liveliness, but I found it too female-centered for me. I liked Feri better. I still have some interest in the Craft, but I've always been too lazy for rituals.

Currently, as my livejournal bio says, I am sort of a Taoistic Pantheist with animistic tendencies. :D

Lance

Feri is one of the versions of the Craft; it's not an individual or an object. Its a particular belief set and method of dealing with the universe, a way to become who you innately are underneath the previously acquired customs of your life, a way to achieve harmony within yourself and with all other things.

I'm not with a 'coven', or 'sisterhood', so I don't really tend to hold onto the whole "Oh yeah, women rule" thing. While it is a big part, it's not something I like to dwell on too much, as I see both genders in the same light. Too much of that 'girl power' nonsense makes me rather queasy.

I'm a solitary and have always been since I 'classified' myself, so to speak. I just focus on the 'working with nature' and 'giving dues to the gods' part. I used to study natural medicine a lot, so that was always my main focus. (I've actually helped out a good number of people with my remedies.)

--------------------------

Speaking of politics, I've been laughing to myself recently. They help the annual BNP Red Whie and Blue thing recently and, naturally, the bloody students held their protests against it. It cost the police (Or rather the taxpayers) over £500,000 and they arrested 19 people.

War in the streets in my tiny village. Ugh. Not fun. No traffic, no public transport, litter, blood, but hey! It's all ok, because they are protesting against the 'bad guys', right!? [/sarcasm]

Makes a lot more sense to me. I prefer that each person have their own private religion [or not have one if that's their preference] rather than get together in churches, which have a tendency to become political, to be about power, and trying by persuasion [with or without coercion] to get EVerybody to believe exactly the same thing.

Rachel Johnson
27th August 2009, 07:36 PM
@Lance - Agreed. I've had too much of that pushed at me in my life. The whole "If you don't attend our meetings, you aren't a true follower", or "God won't listen to you if you don't attend" got pretty tiresome. I understand that, while I have my own beliefs, there'll be a good number of people who think I'm nuts for believing it. But, I'm not all that bothered by it. I don't force my beliefs on others, so I'm not worried. The way I always saw it was, you know you have found the right belief system for yourself when you don't have to defend it. No need to defend it if it's right. :P

Lance
27th August 2009, 09:25 PM
Yes, if your feeling of comfort and security, and your view of how the universe works, depends on everyone else agreeing with you so that they never question the validity of your belief set, then you have major insecurity. A study of history shows that the insecure and controlling have often killed for each or both together of those reasons.

also if you have other associations with your bed like if you watch tv, work, or use the computer in bed you will have also given it a dual association so your body may respond to your bed as a place to be alert/concentrate.

I slept on the floor for six years when I moved into my first apartment. I was tired of manoeuvering though furniture, and didn't want to spend any money on it either, trying to make the money last so it would be longer before I had to get a job. Bit ironic now, considering how totally cluttered and difficult to navigat my house is these days. And I sleep in a chair. Back in that first apartment, I never did get any furniture. I loved having all that space too much; it was great.

Rama Revealed

A story telling of how in the year 2130, an alien craft enters our solar system. By the end of the first novel, many wonders had been uncovered, but few of it's mysteries had been solved. The scope of imagination is so vast here, some of the best sci-fi is right here.

Also, it's the only sf novel to scoop all the major awards. 5 in English, including the Hugo, the Nebula and the British Sci-fi award!

Lance
6th September 2009, 04:21 PM
Arthur C. Clarke died not long ago. He moved to Sri Lanka decades ago because he loved the place. I don't know anything about his private life, nor do I care. What matters to me is that one of his short story collections was the first sci-fi book I ever bought, and more importantly, that he was probably the best and most imaginative writer of hard-science fiction that there has been.

At least three of his novels are among my all-time favourite books, counting books of all categories.

ACE-FLO

Yeah! I guess it's just rumours then. Good! Coz Arthur C Clarke wrote sci-fi which had me totally missing meals ... and sleep! :) Any author that can capture my imagination to the point of self neglect - :rock's

Isaac Asimov - was a true master of sci-fi too. The 'Robot' collection is just a masterpiece! 8)

all of that stuff sounds pretty good guys

and i know of asimov - he invented the 3 laws didn't he

GOOD IDEA TOO

i personally quite like philip k dick - do androids dream of electric sheep is an absolutely superb novel, short but so much going on in there, everything a comment on the validity and identity of life, reality, individuality, love, sentience etc.

strangely i've never seen blade runner though

i believe he also wrote the novel total recall was based on

if you're into time travel as an SF device and a platform for things it can be used to represent, such as connection, consequence, fate and chance etc. i recommend audrey niffenegger's time traveler's wife

the movie from others i know who loved the excellent novel who saw it is a massive let down and a naff generic romcom bastardisation of it

but the novel i can assure you is outstanding, a great study of human relationships and the nature of fate and choice

Lance
6th September 2009, 09:44 PM
I've never really liked Asimov's sci-fi writing, though when I was a kid I liked his science explanation books for kids.

KIGO1987

A stupid term the minority dictating ponsy chardonnay sippers in Perth as well as other city's in Aus call for people who enjoy there cars, including car enthusiasts.

Things include, accelerating hard, excessive cornering, burnouts, rollbacks, drifts, speeding, enjoying your youth, test driving a nice car, understanding your cars dynamics, making to most of a good Saturday night, socializing with your mates, cruses.

thats what the stupid hooning term comes from.

Ahhh...cool guys. Here in the States, most GtG involving cars is illeagal because 99.9% of the time, theres racing involved. I am a huge fan of Citreon. Nice cars, but...BUT...Volkswagen is my true love. Other than VW, my most beloved vehicle is the Peugot 306 maxxi (Rally Car). Im a big fan of Rally Racing too:nod

Way back in the day (12+ yrs agao), I had a 91 VW Golf. Factory hp was 89. When I was done, it had 190 with all the bells and whistle. I never raced for money though...but man, 140 mph in a car the size of your computer desk...whoa!!The only cars that could really keep up were BMW and Mercedes. I miss that car:guitar

Funny you mention that. My city use to host the Rally Australia, until 2006 when the bastards in government refused to fund it anymore.

Last week i saw some really odd car pull out of this shopping center. I couldnt tell what it was until i caught up with it. It was one of those old Group B rally cars. A Renault Aphine, must of been an import. But christ that thing went hard, it took alot of floggin in my Subi to catch up. Arnaud (Asayyeah) here drives one of these i think.

I don't now what it is with older cars. But there much more fun to drive than newer cars. Even this Bush bashing car me and a few mates had a old Volvo 240, was a hell fun car to fang around in. Went hard too. Until it got bogged bad.

KIGO1987
10th September 2009, 07:48 PM
So you dont have a system. Where you can delay the payment of your university payment to another date. Like when your income bracket increases. Damn must suck over there. No space, shtty cars, crap weather, no HECS, i can see why you all migrate to Australia now.

they have only good things to say about the place

edit - the interest is in line with inflation but given the large amount of money involved and the rates of repayment - lowest income threshold 15 grand a year and then more paid back every 5 grand a year more or something like that, in the lowest cases of repayment and based on how much you took you can be paying back less then the amount of interest being added on - it's a bitch

you got nobber..that means F***er, essex slang

you also got nob jockey..very popular thing to call someone..but it's generally used to call a guy who is a toal jerk. crappy drivers get called this all the time.

dont know why, cos the name suggests something gay not an idiot or a jerk.

lol to be honest most rude insults in essex i can think of generaly have the word nob or dik in them

...different kettle o' fish :g

Ya know, as far as stereotypes go, I think we're all a lil wrong. The media dictated that drug dealers all drive around in BMW 3series cars, with blacked out windows and are 6ft6inches tall, black, in a string vest and sporting a loaded weapon thrust in their shorts, which are visible over theirlow hanging trousers. - But no, what I see on a regular is 14 year olds, with McKenzie tracksuits on - sporting low hanging tracksuit bottoms, riding around on BMX's with their skinny lil asses hanging out - next time I see that - I'm gonna kick a butt so hard, the poor ****er will drop off the bike and hurt his ego more than himself - prick

Something funny to share - about a month and half ago - I saw one of these idiotic lil schitts being chased by the police, and I gotta tell you, the police didnt have to run very hard... The lil prick was wearing his tracky bottoms so low, that the crutch part was by his knee caps - so he couldnt take larg steps. The funniest moment was when the police caught him in all of 7 seconds time, and the lil schitt fell to the floor, trying to grab his pants, as they'd slipped off too, there were girls around and they were creasing up laughing. The kid was a show off, and he got to show off his lil weiner :D havent seen him around for a while... must be dying of embarrassment still! A very funny moment that was!

Re: Black-suited and black-automobiled criminal stereotypes [and a bunch of other things], here is a bit of speedwriting I did almost two years ago. [blatant self-promotion] Skip it or read it, as you wish.>

Black suit. Secret murder. Something in the past a convoluted path to now and beyond justice and mercy flavoured with licorice and cinnamon and not a lot of sugar. White tie and violins playing a song of six-penny roses older than the church, older than the gravestones, older than the time before the henges but wearing a top hat and carrying a scepter still like Macbeth and his lady doing the old soft shoe on Duncan's grave while William builds ships for a long vacation in southern England. Picnic hampers once used in St. Tropez will come in handy. We'll use tapestries for saddle blankets on great black chargers loaded with food and champagne and dark secret ambition that becomes a pact between old business partners with carnations in their buttonholes and revolvers in their pockets dressing left handed all sinister in black and white. Canto arrabiata being played by the band on the roof of a big black Lincoln while sparkling wine and vinegar kisses are exchanged between the Man and his main squeeze prostituted jeweled and draped simulation of a lady. Barbarian splendour fueled by whiskey fumes and tommyguns and deadly secrets hiding in black suits worn by fedora-crowned kings of the night and Bahama slot machines in glittering sunswept Caribbean seas of wasted desperately boring lives that can't even imitate quite right the love and laughter and creation and peaceful contentment they all crave and kill for in those secret convoluted lies and ways to the ugly side of madness. This way this way the carny barker said as he howled at the moon he never chose to look at. Follow me follow me I'll show you wonders and wondering I follow him into a cracked-paint faded tint of silver screen illusions behind the triple-x bookshop of wealth and power to buy a dog-eared paperback of acid-brown cheap pages that have been dead too long, so murdered, so secretly murdered, the trees and I.
