FEISAR - I'm personally not affected by it, but all flights have been cancelled for 2 days now, and there's a lot of angry people who can't go on their holidays.
I read in the newspaper that the last time the volcano in Iceland (I can't pronounce the name, forgive me) erupted in the 1800's, the smoke took 2 years to clear fully. Surely that can't be the case today with the wonders of technology...

It's amazing how some people can become angry at the flight cancellations though... would they rather crash and burn than miss a holiday/business appointment? The Pacific is a 10 episode mini-series about the Marines in the Solomon Islands among other places.
It stops and starts again, and is quite a bit different from Band of Brothers mainly because historically there were many months between events.
It doesn't really pick up until EP 5, and I think it would of lost a good chunk of it's audience already because of it.

the 1st two episodes were on free view so i wont see anymore of it for ages.

I reckon the UK will have another election before the end of the year by the looks of things.
A coalition won't be able to get anything done without too many party faction appeasing compromises, a toothless tiger.
The UK or any other country for that matter can't afford to have that in the current economic climate, especially in Europe with the Greek economy pulling the Euro down.

SaturnReturn
7th May 2010, 05:36 PM
We won't be alright because, as blackwiggle says, very little is likely to get done. In this state we'd have to rely on politicians making the right decisions for the sake of the country, even if it meant going against they're own political beliefs. That's not going to happen, so little will get done. In the past I don't think hung parliaments have been all bad and have had their successes, but given that decisive action is really key at the moment, things don't look great.
People seem to be under the impression that Cameron and Clegg feeling the wuv wuv will be good for the country, but it won't mean anything at all. They can talk all they want about electoral reform and the future of the economy, but I can't see the Cons being particularly flexible about two of the issues on which they most fundamentally disagree with the other parties.
The most annoying thing for me is that Cameron got in simply by pleading to the throwing change round as a buzzword, as if 'change' is synonymous with 'improvement', or 'different' with 'better', and no-one in the other parties thought to point voters in the direction of a thesaurus. I just think his whole campaign was so lazy. Labour were always up against it. With the war, the economy, the fact they've been in so long, that Gordon Brown didn't get elected and bears more than a passing resemblance to a sleepy garden toad, they weren't likely to do well. But at least they had something more to show than the most obvious slogan anyone could possibly think of.

People usually blame their problems on the nearest target. Cameron let them think that that is the right way to do things. He just reinforced that one message over and over. If people hadn't already been thinking that way then he would basically have brainwashed them. He appealed to the simpleton in all of us. Luckily he did it a bit too much and not everyone fell for it. But it was still very lazy. He rarely said anything of substance. In previous election I've not cared at all. But after seeing Cameron's methods this year I was really quite pissed off at him for thinking people are that stupid. It's really quite insulting. If people want to vote conservative based on policies then I have no problems with that, but that was never his game and everyone knows it.
There's a cat prowling across the rooftops right now where I am. Looks like it has something in its sights. It's cool to watch.

Lockheed (aka Skunk Works) made some fascinating schitt, under the management of Ben Rich (the then CEO of Lockheed). Yes, the SR-71 BlackBird was a machine (did mach3, sonic booms and all that), but for me - the F117a Stealth Bomber was the piece de resistance... and they made us resist... They made that stealthj bomber in the 60's would you know? But debuted in 1993... the first desert storm with Bush Senior (muppet)
Btw, Lockheed is in the Nevada desert, namely Area51... prior to the 90's, and for decades - you may remember strange black triangular shaped objects being filmed floating in the sky? well, that would be the F117a during prototype testing and that kinda rigmarole.... rigmarole, love that word! :g
@ RedScar - seeing as you are loving the awesomeness of the SR71, I recommend a book named "Skunk Workls" authored by Ben RIch - it's a real EYE OPENER - I loved it and have read it through like 3 times already... :)

The TV stations, the Aus cricket board and sport reporters are bemoaning the fact that cricket, the once most followed sport in Australia, is suddenly dying.
The one day internationals get barely 40% of ground capacity now, it was only around 5 years ago you had to buy ticket up to a month beforehand to get a seat, and TV rating have plummeted where before you could see nearly every set in your street would be watching.
I reckon it's a combination of too much cricket now with the Indian premier league and the 20/20 matches which has turned it into baseball basically, it's diluted the excitement of those once classic one day matches.
If you add in the betting scandals / match fixing, and demise of the West Indies & Pakistan as competitive teams, it's no wonder interest has been lost.

RE: Blackburn and Hobbits...Kinda true... actually, largely true!
I used to be engaged to girl in Blackburn, she was really pretty, nice, sexy all that - and she loved to cook (Indian food :)) but it didn't work out for a big reason. I was only living in Blackburn temporarily back then, and when I moved back to London we had a long distance relationship (300 odd mile away from eachother) so we didn't see each other much.
Bad move, coz me moving to London led to her finding someone else to fill in the gap (boo :-) - she thought I wouldnt find out but I got peeps everywhere and they are loyal as blood. SO, one day I'm on the phone to mate who lives near Blackburn (in Preston) and he gave me the lowdown. I didn't wanna beleive it but he said he wouldn't let me marry her coz he KNOWS she is CHEATING - I went mad at him. He kinda expected it but remained adamant (good friend is my Charlie) ... so I played a lil game.
I used to visit her once a month (weekend) and she'd show me love etc wot not, so I was really quite confused... but when she went to the shop, I looked through her handbag (don't hate me) she left in my car and say a few texts that spelt it all out very very clearly for me. She was cheating with some dude called Salim or something like that... anyway, I had the info I wanted, now it was time to play MY GAME...
here's what I did - we had 3 months left to our wedding and I played dumb fiance right to the last week before my wedding, and then I went to Blackburn unannounced. I turned up at her parents house (where she also lived) and demanded to have a word with them... I told them what I had discovered and ended with a comment which shook up her family... here's what I siad to her dad "My sister is the same age as your dughtrer right?"
"right" replies her dad.
"The difference between my sister and your daughter is that, my sister is like Gold Dust - she's valuable - whereas your daughter is just dust - now clean up your mess" and I left her house - however, half her Indian family had arrived (as they do a week before the wedding) just then, and the schit really did hit the fan. They accused me of slander and worse, but I stood head and shoulders above all of them - the bloody hobbits! My fiance comes running up to me, begging forgiveness but I just looked at her dad and said "How can I be lying when the guilt is written all over her face - she broke my heart, now she's breaking yours" and I went home...
Anyway - you might find this funny, but I've been in love 5 times now, am used to my heart breaking... am with a girl atm who I love to bits but we're having issues also. Life - what a trip :) they say you live and you learn - but fools fall in love all the time ;)

Won't happen again (but if it does - be careful, they'll zap you and you'll become a ferret with the power to merge continents with the power of thought alone - actually if that does happen, can you join America to Africa? it would be quite educational for both parties, especially since one continent is the poorest in the world, and the other - the richest, most wasteful, gluttonous, and misinformed continent in the world... )

Actually, no. There is a company called "Woolworth's", but they're completely unrelated and just use the name. It's like the game publisher "Atari" versus the console and computer company that died in 1996.

Does anyone believe in signs? When I was younger I went through a phase where every night I would be failing to get to sleep and I would roll over to look at the digital clock and it would read 22:22. Recently this has been happening again.
The logical part of me thinks it must just be because my subconscious mind notices the repetition of 2222 in my peripheral vision and I'm somehow drawn to look at it. But then sometimes that logic doesn't work, like just now when I looked at my phone, the screen of which is otherwise blank, and it read 22:22. It's just been happening pretty much every night recently and it's freaking me out a little. It's not like I'd know what it meant, even if it was more than coincidence, but it's still weird. Maybe I should set them up for 12 hr clock.:lol

I just checked my phone again and it said 2323. That happens sometimes too, only less often. I never seem to see the time when it's 2121, 2020, 1919 etc. Or maybe I just don't notice it. But seriously, 2222 happens faaaar too often to not be something more than just a time.
P.S. @PS - we don't talk about that game here. ;) But you're welcome. :lol

I experienced something similar quite a while ago... I would randomly check the time and it would always read 19:45. It's strange because it's not even anywhere near bed-time and it's just a purely random check. This number doesn't seem too special besides being the end of WW2, heh.
Perhaps you could explain your case due to a very consistent internal clock which makes you head to bed at 22:22. ;)
BulletWraith
31st May 2010, 03:38 AM
I get this sometimes as well, few weeks ago a girl inadvertently glanced at my watch a and exclaimed 11:11(pm), then I got the same thing for a week or so after that
early this year I was dreaming and a character in my dream told me the time, I woke up soon after and it was 2 minutes after the time the dream character told me
we have a perfect internal clock, I believe in signs too, they don't have to be important, like I'll be thinking of going to a certain place or do a certain activity and a few mins later I'll see people randomly doing that activity in the background of a video on youtube or something

Ive done that many crappy retail and hospitality jobs since high school, ive lost my touch from the skills of Corel DRAW i had back in the day. If you get Adobe Creative Suite 5 and CS5 Design Premium let me know how they go, if there good, that'll be the thumbs up for me to purchase the software. Office 2010 was recently released. My school still uses 2003(really),which can lead to incompatability problems, since most of the students(I think) use 2007 or 2010(2003 saves in .doc,2007&2010 save in .docx).Same for the others.Am now waiting for my CS5 design premium and will try doing the"We Didn't Start the Flame War" WipEout rendition video....

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure the PS3 wasn't ever desingned to take 500GB HDD. Too much stress on the processor and RAM to work fast enough will only serve to burn the compound off the processor, making it YLOD.... That's what went wrong with yours Kieran, probably !
This new 350GB console they're releasing, may just be the limit of what the PS3 can process within a reasonable time. And yeah, they need to increase that damn RAM :D

Funny you mention the controller i damage on Blur a few weeks back Yeldar, i put it back together last monday, glued the sides in, still is the best working controller of the bunch. The old Sixaxis controllers are heaps more sensitive over the new DualShock3 controller, was using it to play WipeoutHD in the past few days before the YLOD.
Im being punished for using my PS3 for greater evil over the summer period, most of you folk prob know what i am talking about, karma does exist, this is a prime example.

I do know that Ace, thats why i havent opted to go over HDD size over 500GB, the PS3 RAM will just simply not take the added load. There are people out there with 640 and 750GB PS3s ive seen on other sites, even 1TB ones also!. So maybe the limit of the old PS3's is 160GB and the limit of the slims is 320GB before they start having issues. My PS3 has done me good since 2007 i appreciate it for its good times ive had with it.
The new slim model isnt 350gb Ace, its 320, just looked at the link on the other thread.
This is why my PS3 overheated. all the thermal connections on the PS3 have baked to ****! that is what Australian summer do best. Check out this photo:
Here is a photo of what the inside of my PS3 is like:

Talking 'bout "faulty" consoles and handhelds,I used to have an Xbox(the original one)that I played a lot when I got it and it slowly declined when I got the DS and the PSP(1000 model).Few years after I got the Xbox, when I powered up the console, the thing took ages to load,so much so it was practically unplayable! Since the "faulty" Xbox was now of no use to me,I took(some of)it apart.Got out the harddrive. That was basically what I did.

I doubt the PS3 was designed by Sony to survive the Australian summer. Considering the amount of 40C/105F plus degree days Perth had last summer i can see why it bombed out, also with the stingy thermal paste used. Funny how the PS3 crapped itself on one of the coldest days of the year though.

That 3D Blueray disc playback was supposed to be in the last update.
I suppose there isn't exactly a rush for it, although if you have bought a Sony 3D TV and were promised 3D playback from the PS3 to be here earlier, which you would need to playback your one and only 3D disc, then you would be pretty miffed that it has taken so long.
Early 3D TV take up hasn't be so bad for Australian owners, at least they have had 3 State of Origin Rugby leauge matches, and 15 World Cup matches all broadcast live free to air over the last 2 months.
I wonder what they will do for content after tonight's last World Cup match though?
Those 3D specs are going to be gathering dust.
Looks like slim pickins in every other country 3D TV content wise, which I can't see giving people a reason to go out a buy one.

The drifts are very artificial in Ridge Racer. It is a arcade racing game, not really meant to be real at all. Just a good drift racing game with some legendary electronic tunes in the game.

yeah i also enjoyed the games more back then...
also GT and Colin McRae were groundbreaking back then with unique features unlike most of todays games that try to impress with graphics.
maybe the fact that i play with strangers online and not with my real friends in my house, have also played a role in my enjoyment.
only exception is wipeout hd, a game that enjoy and that helped me make friends(even on psn)...:rock
another factor i think is that most playstation games were unique and started long-termed franchises, so today we get more sequels with just updated graphics rather than some new projects...
there are of course some exceptions but i think nowadays people prefer games with 'omg' graphics rather than unique and rare gameplay.
look the sales of Ico and Okami.
this is a reason, imo, why the market is flooded with so many shooters...

The first Colin McRae rally was ahead of its time. I remember the night levels in the game as well as the wet ones also. Also i remember that cheat thingy in the game where when you where on that night stage and you took the wrong turn you would come to a fence where you would stop and you car would turn off and you couldnt restart it then you got beamed up into a light and your car would slowly rise then disappear, then you would come back on the stage with something like 4minutes added onto your time and your entire car turned into a jelly state. Quite a clever design in the game for who, who discovered it.

Yeah a fair wack of the Chevrolet Camaro comes from the Australian built Holden Commodore. Leave it to the Aussies to make a shiity American car better;) You drive a VE Commodore with the 6.2Liter V8 in it and you will be extremely surprised how well and balanced it handles, a kid could drive that car like a nut and would still have control over it. I drove one earlier on in the year, was a manual Holden Commodore SS the car just casually overtakes other cars effortlessly on the roads. Real good cars built for the harsh environment here. I loved when Clarkson put the time for the Camaro on the board and the Holden HSV Maloo ute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSV_Maloo) was quicker. lol! I bet the sedan and wagon versions where probably quicker than the Camaro also.

How did the Minigun get its name? I mean, it's not very 'mini', is it?

Wikipedia says:
"Specifically, minigun refers to a single weapon, originally produced by General Electric. The "mini" of the name is in comparison to designs that use a similar firing mechanism but larger shells, such as General Electric's earlier 20 mm M61 Vulcan."
So, it's basically smaller than an even larger one... :lol

Singapore has bizarre things happening with it's internet I've found, it can be fine, then for no apparent reason it can slow down to dial up speeds.
I used to visit Echo Loft, the Singapore based HiFi forum, but it got beyond a joke trying to post there because of the erratic internet connection, pages would take many minutes to refresh.
As the PSN uses what is basically a torrent service to run games, and the benign military based Singaporean government making known it's disdain of any use of torrents, I think your might have problems if your Singapore based.
It would rather all the pirates stay in the straights of Malacca rather than the streets of Queenstown. ;)
The PStore & PSN is not as global as you might think, it's impossible to purchase anything from the PSstore from quite a few countries, so since HD/FURY is download only, there's no real legitimate way for them to get it, how they get connected to the PSN I don't know, perseverance and a proxy server I suppose.
I see very few South east Asian racers online, maybe less than half a dozen from Malaysia, a few from India, a couple of Srilankans, no Thia's or Vietnamese.
I'm guessing those few that are playing are Europeans working overseas, like Designer79 who was playing from China till the Chinese Government changed something with the internet there, now he has so many problems staying connected he doesn't bother.

I don't know why, but Steven Spielberg flatly refuses to allow anybody to use it for that, so you have to roll your own.
I didn't really find last weeks Top Gear that good, well, compared to ep 1 with the Robin Reliant's, I think it was the weakest of the 4 eps of season 15 so far, thankfully not quite as bad as some of last years dismal seasons eps.

I love Mr Bean, I still watch it ^_^
Our dishwasher just broke so I'm a bit annoyed atm. These hands weren't made for washing...it's so degrading. I'll get the cleaning lady to do it :twisted
/epic faux-snobbery :g

The guy at 6:38 reminds me of Stevie from here :lol
I dont have a dishwasher.
Gaz there is a thing you can buy here to wash your dishes with , i cant post the name of them on this forum since Chris will crack the shiits with me. Quite a funny name. Im not a great fan of washing dishes myself, i find in the summer months the skin around my knuckles crack bad.

i just played some uncharted 2 online earlier and noticed that my ps3 was louder than ever!
never knew the fans can reach this stage:eek
i think uncharted 2 is the most demanding ps3 game so i suppose it's natural all this noise.
i even remember playing it back in january and hearing the ps3 fans working so hard and loud compared to all the other games in which my ps3 slim was quieter than my breathing!:lol
so my advice to anyone who has a fat ps3 with symptoms of overheating is to avoid playing too much u2 during summer or you are risking a ylod...

Funny you should mention that DreamyElf, I remember my fans kicking in a lot when playing both Uncharteds. Someone once said to me the exact same thing about it taking a lot of ps3 power to run it. I wasn't sure if that was right, I guess it must be though now.

@KGB1971: That's true. If a game uses all the SPEs, then the Cell chip will
consume more power (which translates to more radiated heat). Cell has
something implemented called speed-stepping, meaning that if a unit isn't
under load it's frequency will be cut to save power / heat.

Don't be silly, that's not how it works. If she's claiming it is then she's either lying, stupid, mean, attention seeking, or all of the above. Whatever, you're better of without her. Probably the least harsh (to her) option would be that she's confused. If that's the case then you're still better off without her, because she's trying to blame you for her confusion.:-

Well, I don't know how it works. Never had the opportunity to find out. You're probably right, I'm not ever going to see her again, which is probably a good thing.
It is only an assumption because from that I'm responsible what I can tell, I was the last guy she went out with, which is likely, because most of the lads in my year are against her because of what she did to me and she is a racist who lives on the wrong side of blackburn for her, you know?
But yeah, she is all of the above anyway. :g

When I talk about how it works, I obviously don't mean I know because I'm a lesbian. What I mean is, if she really is into girls, then that doesn't just happen because of one guy. It's not like you turned her off so much she switched sides. I wouldn't switch to coffee because I had one bad cup of tea. Neither would I switch to coffee because I had an awesome cup of tea, but didn't like it, so assumed I wouldn't like any other tea. That make sense? Probably not, and I'm not trying to trivialise things by using a tea example, but you see what I mean - yes, there may well be a moment for some people when they realise, but a change in sexual orientation doesn't just happen overnight. I'd even suggest it's a bit arrogant to think that you could be the reason, but you don't seem arrogant, so I'm guessing it's the opposite reason that makes you think that way.
Is she really a racist or one of those people who is very ignorant, and fails to hide it?:P
