i lost 5-1. The only one i could win is the combat zone mode. the other ones were won by lolode1978 with 8-10 seconds. a really really great skill. very well played!

i enjoyed a lot playing this cup, and i look to get into another cup/league like this one.

If he "refused" to race phantom races, it's him who should be disqualified because the opponent can choose whatever damn tracks and classes he likes.

From what I can tell from the French WipEout pages, imre92 said that bombel refused to race the Fury tracks, so imre changed Modesto to Vineta, but he stood firm on getting to race his own tracks on Phantom. But the final race was Rapier at Sol 2 for some reason. :/

He said that he wasn't happy with having to do Flash, nor for the final races to be 'russian roulette' Rapier. He said he would prefer the final event to be Modesto, Chenghou or Sebenco Reverse, real pilots' circuits, on Phantom. Frankly, I don't blame him.

I've just been reading Imre92's posts at Arena.

It's the first time I've read a full report, I had only just got snippets of what was happening between these two in PSN messages when trying to get them to race.

I had contacted Imre92 and he said he had been trying to get Bombel2000 to race of several occasions, but that he had told him he either needed more practice, been too tired or too stoned.

It's only when I sent Bombel2000 a ultimatum of race within 7 days or lose by default that they raced.

It appears each won their respective selections, Imre92's were all Phantom even if they weren't the Fury tracks he wanted to race on, so it's a moot point if he was disadvantaged.
And Bombel2000 won all his Flash speed selections.

It's why the final deciding race which should of been Rapier>Anulpha Forward was changed to Rapier>Sol 2 that is the question of rule breech.
I don't know, but if they both agreed then I see no problem.

I know that rules have been 'bent' already; many people have picked the same race type for all 3 choices, and in my own race accidently had Rapier>AP with no weapons, but Bombel2000 wanted Imre to change his track choices, speed class choices, and the default race?

Think I'll demand I can choose CP, CP, CP and default race CP in my next race if thats the case :) *sarcasm!*

If the guy made him change tracks simply because he didn't want to play them, HE is breaking the rules by simply refusing to play those tracks. It's silly, he's got nothing to do with the opponent's player's track choices (as long as they are according to the rules), and vica versa. If he was literally refusing to play unless the other player changed tracks, there's no question imo; disqualification.

I think haiku's point was just that to get the top venom times, it takes a comparable amount of (different, if similar) skill as it takes to get top phantom times. Which is pretty much on the mark.

Some BRs on the flat on phantom are not that easy to do also ;) and with high speed they must be executed very quickly without losing the control of your ship ! Venom's BR are equaly hard to do because of the speed's lack, but you have some time to adjust your line, preparing your sideshift and recovering a decent line after the BR's boost.

It reminds me Leungbok, Pirah did that one time, he recorded his hands when playing hd lol. I think we could compare the hands of texasalex & the hands of pirah, for eg, on a same track at their respective speed. Could be interesting. Each speed class is challenging anyway, each has its specialist, and it's a good thing.
Regarding imre, well as we said on the arena, he was kind enough to accept bombel's requests, but sadly the stuff ended imo like the russian roulette; as it has been said above or at the arena, the actual decider round format is not the perfect way to go, clearly something to think about for future events.

Finally, I'm really sad to see this wave of withdrawals. Really hope we'll have a perfect show after round 3. We must definitely go back to smaller stuffs after this one lol.

On the subject of the rules, I like how they are, each one choose what most interests you about slow speeds, I personally like all, Wipeout is a racing game, all speed have diferent way to play, but for me for example for my green races no is wipeout, the weapons are for use, and if not play without weapons, it is my opinion, and now I remember a comment that said a player from here, players play slow speeds are not REAL PLAYER, comments do not share of course.

From what I've read, there have been no direct insults traded within this thread at all. Many people are still bitter with the whole glitch issue (myself included, to an extent.)

The revelation of something as serious as this in a game which many people love is bound to start some fireworks. You do get +1 interwebz for being honest, however many people are a little miffed that the glitch was executed and then revealed, which has effectively scuppered the chances of a new WR and made a mockery of the amazing times made by the lower class pros such as texasalex.

eric whupped my @ss good style. it ended 6-0 to the ultra fast, and extremely pleasant French man.

I was doing so well in the warm up races just before our match, but my nerves got the better of me when it came to the crunch. Not to worry tho, it was a great meet. well I think so anyhoo lol

Well the latest is that I've heard nothing back from GAME but have left another message with them.

It doesn't look like much will come of that though, so I ordered the thermal paste I need to try and fix it myself. That's probably my last ditch attempt, as I'm not keen on buying a Slim. If that fails, then I guess I'll just leave the whole gaming thing behind and go get a girlfriend.

But I'm still trying anyway. If all the other round 3 matches get played and I'm not in a position to play then I'll pull out at that point I guess.

First of all, I want to once again apologise G-Superpilot for the delay and not even knowing my tracks of choice (I had really bad day then :? ).
Second, G deserved to win 6-0, because my performance was awful, the only wins were because of luck (getting missiles and quakes on Vineta K) and lag (first Talon race).
Third, that's right - I fell off the track on 1st lap of Sol2 :paperbag Haven't been playing online for over 2 months (except two days, when my network administrator let the ports be forwarded, but they were blocked again, so I ended up offline again; if anyone asks, I was playing my Cup races at friend's console :P <- blah blah, who cares about your excuses, bakayaro!) and that really makes a huge difference in handling (blah blah, you're simply weak - says my inner voice). I couldn't fit into AG-Sys nor FEISAR, Greg's performance was great, so I'm somewhat happy I didn't win and better pilot goes forward ;)

So now I'll have to travel to Tibet, find some Shaolin monastery, meditate a couple of months about my performance and come back when NGP's Wipeout is released to start everything from the beginning. See y'all then!

My first match I actually played in the tournament and I went crashing out

Klocki's choices - all rapier, 4 laps, weapons on

Ubermall Forward - SG wins - I built up an early lead, but at the end of lap 2 got a missile weapon, I waited for klocki to take the lead then fired on him round a corner and won by 0.8 seconds

Chenghou Forward - Klocki wins - My win in race 1 proved to be a false dawn, hit the barrier round the outside of the second turn, and klocki pulled away from there. I couldn't tell from my screen, the winning margin was either 5 or 7 seconds

Chenghou Reverse - Klocki wins - see chenghou forwards!

SG's choices

Rapier, 4 laps, weapons on, Anulpha Pass Forwards - Klocki wins - Klocki got off to an early lead, but a succession of a quake and a speed boost meant we practically crossed the line together at the end of lap 2. Sadly I hit the back of his ship, lost momentum and lost 3 seconds in the first sector of lap 3, and finished about 4 seconds down in the end

Zone battle, to 20, tech de ra reverse - Klocki wins - that must have been the perfect zone battle drive, reaching 20 when i was just short of 12 - though I did have about 5 in the tank

Klocki took photos of all the races except race one, in which my time was 1.47.30, and Klocki's was 1.48.07.

I feel bad about being the only ROUND 2 match left to play. I was away in Florida for a while on family vacation with my wife and 7 month old daughter and so I was without a PS3, then I was supposed to play Mago this past Saturday…he was ready but unfortunately we still haven’t been able to move back into our frikkin’ house yet because our slow-as-fark contractor still hasn’t finished renovating our farking bathroom, despite the work starting on FEB 5th!!! As such I’ve been at me mum’s place since returning from Florida…and totally forgot that Saturday morning I was supposed to drive to my house and get the PS3 up and running for a 10AM GMT-5 match with Mago (4PM GMT+1). All my stuff is covered up and unplugged while the work is being done, because I don’t want all that drywall crap getting into my speakers, AV receiver, turntable, PS3, etc., etc.

Because of the difference in time it’s not particularly easy to play in the evening for me, because 7pm would be early in the morning for Mago. Perhaps next year if there’s another cup we could make time zones more of a consideration?

Anyway, due to these circumstances I think it’s only fair that I reluctantly forfeit to Mago so that ROUND 3 matches can continue. I'm not even sure if we'll be back in by this week-end. Mago has been very patient and totally hospitable, which I appreciate.

Hey everybody, I just wanted to tell you that my brother(IDReaper) got into a car accident today. He didn't break any bones or anything, but he can hardly walk by himself. I'm just letting the WO community know for him; he told me that he was supposed to do the match 1 or 2 days ago. Anyways, I'll let you guys know about any changes. (He's out of the hospital, by the way.)

Eagle update:

What a close match! Saturn did a great job in the three races weapon off, 10 laps, he's surely faster than me in these races. 2 to 1 for him.

Then 2 races weapon on, and we have a tie, 1-1.

Last race of my choice was a zone battle, and I won the race.

Before the last race the result was 3-3.

On anulpha rapier, everything happened... I fell off the track at the end of lap 1, with a turbo, I've taken a bomb, miles and I've absorbed a quake... But I had some turbos, and another quake, and at the beginning of last lap we were close. Before the last straight, I've taken a missile, and I shoot. Sat had a turbo to use, but unfortunately he fell off the track.

I was very lucky in the last race, I feel sorry because he has demonstrated to be in better condition of speed than me.

However, thanks for your kindness and for these great races with a wonderful pilot like you Saturn :)

Metropia: The combo of this track and the Zone Battle made this feel like an impossible task for me. It's one of my worst tracks. I couldn't go into this match feeling like I had no chance so I practised by trying to match yeldar's Avalon times. I failed, but I did get within 0.1 seconds on my best laps so was confident I could give ShawnFrecle a run for his money, even though he has almost matched yeldar's Phantom TT time. Well the practice certainly paid off on this one.

Sol 2 rev: This could have gone either way. It's not my strongest track but not one of my weakest on a good day. Luckily it went my way.

Chenghou forward: I didn't really want to pick this because I have actually lost the knack of this track recently. Can't seem to get into a groove. However, I didn't want to keep relying on Chenghou Rev weps off races either. Poor shield management let me down here, but I really didn't imagine my shield would be so low already on lap 5.

Amphiseum: Well I messed up straight away. I should have been more confident if I was going to win it and not wasted a boost on avoiding the shortcut. Still, we were both very close at that point and SF took the shorty too, so there could have been a horrible mid-air collision otherwise.

Ubermall: One of my better tracks generally online, but also one that most people enjoy. This race was as close as all the others.

Chenghou Zone Battle: I didn't really put a lot of effort into this at the start as I just can't do these at all. Trying to play ZB properly always gives me a headache, so I decided to just make it round the course and see what happened. I did enjoy sweeping around that long left hander while stuck firmly to the track though. That was fun.

Anulpha Pass Rapier Decider: I'll let this one speak for itself. My last move is a silly one, but in a split second I figured it was either that or get rammed off the edge anyway, so I went for it. Can you say FAIL?:P

Overall I really enjoyed this. It was very close throughout and am glad to go out on what I consider to be a high. I get to give you guys some great close racing to watch as well, which I disappointingly failed to do against Ace3 in the Avalon Cup. I'm also pleased as all this was with the analogue stick, which I'm still getting used to, and was after a forced hiatus of a few weeks, so I feel I can definitely make that transition to stick permanently now and not have to put up with d-pad related RSI that I had been suffering - which means I can keep playing the game, and this match brought back some of the enjoyment I'd lost, so I definitely want to continue.:)

Good luck to ShawnFrecle for the rest of the competition. I'm glad to have lost to someone both super fast and super friendly.:+

COMMENTARY:

I filmed the event, so you'll be able to see what I'm talking about here, but I thought I'd give a little commentary anyway. This was the closest 1 v 1 I've EVER had and I was so nervous throughout.

Sebenco Climb Forward: I was absolutely terrible at this, despite being alright at it when I was practicing earlier. I missed a ton of BR's, scraped walls and hit bomb after mine time and time again. Win for Chris.

Sol 2 Reverse: Again, I made a few mistakes and got hit by lots of weapons. I fired off a quake, but Chris had a shield so just surfed over it. Once you're hit, you can't catch up and this was certainly true for me in this case. Win for Chris.

Sebenco Climb Reverse: Being 2-0 down at this point really piled the pressure on for me. It was neck and neck with constant position changes up until Lap 3 when Chris eliminated himself in the tunnel. Win for me.

Vineta K Reverse: Had an almost flawless run here, almost beating yeldar's Avalon record in the process. Win for me.

Sol 2 Forward: The lag started to kick in here and there was plenty of ramming going on from both sides. I was rammed in Lap 2 or 3, so Chris pulled away. I managed to catch him up, but couldn't quite pass him before the finish line. Final result was a Photo Finish in Chris' favour. Win for Chris.

Sol 2 Reverse: I was a bag of nerves in this one, as I knew that one more win for Chris would mean the end of my time in the HD Cup. Chris pulled off to an early lead and maintained it for the first 2 or 3 laps until I was able to overtake him at the sharp left turn. Win for me.

Anulpha Decider: Chris asked if we could change the speed to Phantom and I agreed. The so-called "lottery track" meant all or nothing for both of us. He pulled off to an early lead until I got a boost. After dodging some mines laid by him, I used the boost at the beginning of Lap 2 and boosted over him. I was able to hold him of after that and go on to win the race. Win for me.

I'd like to thank Chris for the races and for being extremely polite and friendly throughout, not to mention an amazing pilot. You have no idea how nervous he made me feel in this one. I'd even go as far to say that Italy are now the strongest WipEout nation overall.

The first one was saturn vs shawn, maybe I prefer that one because a team-mate won it :p

Well what can i say,i knew this would be a cat and mouse kind of thing.
After the phantom races i was kind of happy with my performance,i knew
that i would be very hard to win a race and i wasnt expecting something at all.

Then we did my tracks at my favorite speedclass Flash
I knew that my only change to win some races would be to slow speed down
so that its coming down to more luck with boost that decide the winner.
But i wasnt able to perform and didnt reach my normal capacity at all,sad to say i did so many misstakes and now i feel sad i messed up so badly these races.


But Luna handled flash excellent and won the wep off race bigtime

I dont mind loosing to a top pilot as Luna and i wish her the best further on in the cup.
We had a great time chatting and it was a pleasure racing her.
