2nd November 2010, 09:55 AM
lol! you're free to go, make a thread at the command center if you need any thoughts btw. Or yeah, just talk about that here, sure.

blackwiggle
2nd November 2010, 10:14 AM
I'm still trying to taunt DjKyoto and 2 others that no longer seem to visit the zone in to racing in the tournament, I think I might as well talk to a brick, I'll check my PSN messages in a moment to see if he or the others have taken the bait.

kanar
2nd November 2010, 10:44 AM
yeah blackwiggle hope some old timers change their mind. Not like I'm a fan of unresponsive kiwis so far in that case but I'm just thinking about the competition, more aces on the track = more fun. Cos' one thing i like in this story is : jeeez we'll have a wipeout HD world Champ in the end :), all in the 1vs1 fairness

Dark_Phantom_89
2nd November 2010, 11:51 AM
I had a few races with TheBulletDodger7 last night and he was pretty good. Managed to keep up with me for a couple of laps on Moa Therma, Metropia and Vineta K. I could see him being a good contestant if he's interested?

Oryx Crake
2nd November 2010, 02:01 PM
I think I can do this, and if other people are able to also edit it and put in results that would be even better :).

@darkdrium I am quite certain your board is alot sexier ^^

OBH
2nd November 2010, 06:04 PM
Im really looking forward to this; with no practice comes no pressure :)
just........ keep.......... telling yourself this!.....

Olol
2nd November 2010, 08:09 PM
i'm having no time to practise :\
gt5, cod and a whole load of replaying old games due to my ps3 yloding on me, didn't back it up :\

still... BRING ON THE CUP! :D

kanar
2nd November 2010, 08:49 PM
eh eh it's coming it's coming! gah mate my first YLOD tonight, 50 mn ago exactly pfffff. Old snake ps3, first series. Weird to see this fkin yellow light. Seems like you're hearing Sony at this time, saying "fuuuuuuuuuuuu.. you morron, you bought my stuff 600€ for the release date & 4 years after my stuff dieeeeee. Welcome to the real world. The world of mass consumption. Hopefully I anticipated the YLOD a while ago, wth my 2009 series (just before the slim). Gah I hate even more than ever Sony right now.

blackwiggle
2nd November 2010, 11:31 PM
Yeah I just retired my 60G BC FAT PS3 last week, even though it's still got 1 years warranty left on it, for a 160G Slim mainly because it was unusable since it returned from the Sony service center in June.
The Fan was so loud that you couldn't hear dialogue in movies or games, and now since Summer is starting here soon every time the temp hit 21C I'd get a "Shutdown console Overheating warning", which was within 3 minutes of turn on.

mikrucio
3rd November 2010, 05:49 AM
lol nice work Sony. It was probably repaired by a numbot with zero braincells.

That sucks, Kanar! You're welcome to join my "I hate all consumer electronics with a passion" club. It would be on Facebook, except I'm not a member, because I hate that too... :p

It's the look of disbelief on people's faces when you tell them you're not on Facebook that annnoys me. Sorry, drifting off topic, but that bloody site gets on my t*ts.

4th November 2010, 08:27 AM
Ah what the heck, might as well join this for old times sake :)
Knowing my luck anyway, I'll probably get matched up with some ridiculous opponent >_>
If you need a bracket software, try out ALJ Tournament Maker 2.1
I'm not sure if it will support 256, but its worth a go

kanar
4th November 2010, 08:37 AM
rdmx :hyper:hyper. FINALLY! ah ah, tbh I had good hopes you'll change your mind. And don't worry, lot of us are just coming out of retirement. REALLY glad you're joining, and exactly, this cup is for old times sake. We spent so many great times on this game since its release, we met so many great persons online & some of 'em, for me, even in real life...

So this event is just to thank you all for these awesome memories.

Regarding the board mate, Darkdrium designed a sexy huge board, divided into 8 parts of 32, for better viewing & updating on WZ.
Oryx came with a board in direct access wth the website challonge, so we'll have a board visual on this website too, updated by Oryx & me so far (hope challonge isn't blocked by the firewall at my job eh eh).

5th November 2010, 11:30 PM
welcome to the cup GameKyuubi! yep 4 slots left on the paper but I think we need at least 10/15 more pilots, cos' of the possible last minute withdrawals.

So as I said previously, I'm launching the registration confirmation process this sunday; so check out your psn inbox in the next few days. I'll need basic infos like your country, Fury or not Fury, timezone, fav speed class & ship & of course I'll ask you if you're still up for the cup lol.

Oh & the seeded player list is being processed atm (thanks to everyone who participated), should be up in a few days.

OBH
5th November 2010, 11:47 PM
What about those of us relying on others ps3 and cant access their psn inbox? :)
Oh wait, its just me lol

4 slots left and the threads got over 20,000 views mate :) Your grand plan is almost underway!!

kanar
6th November 2010, 01:51 PM
Ok guys, finally sorted out the list. Massive thanks to Leungbok, JJPAP, Blackwiggle, KGB1971, Pirahpac, SaturnReturn, Ace3 & Fyue3, DP89, OBH, Triboy, Yeldar, GS & Luna. The seeded pilots, chosen by the pilots. Good stuff. These 64 pilots will be divided 1st into groups of 8 randomly tossed, & will be randomly tossed into the 8 blocks of 32 (means 24+8 seeds in each part of the board). WARNING : the number is NOT your seeded rank. It's just for the toss.

There's only 61 listed there

R3BU5ER
6th November 2010, 02:31 PM
Not that I really Mind or anything, but what is this seeded player list based on exactly?

kanar
6th November 2010, 02:36 PM
Leungbok, JJPAP, Blackwiggle, KGB1971, Pirahpac, SaturnReturn, Ace3 & Fyue3, DP89, OBH, Triboy, Yeldar, GS, Luna & me based ourselves on :

-Online rankings
-Connavar Rankings
-Avalon tournaments
-Other Zone tournaments
-Common knowledge of the level playing field

Then they gave me their list, and I realised a poll of their thoughts. Here are the most quoted names. I've some kind of seeded waiting list too, in case a seed would have to withdraw before the start of the competition.

Seeded pilot groups is being sorted out atm, results will be given shortly

R3BU5ER
6th November 2010, 03:14 PM
Okay that seems pretty clear.

OBH
6th November 2010, 03:26 PM
Cant help but notice there's a distant lack of Japanese names in there.....

kanar
6th November 2010, 03:34 PM
not sure I understood OBH, but there's only 2 japanese pilots registered in the cup, & they're both seeds (pp234 & aka-sho). We did everything we could. Everyone. I even renamed the cup as "kawai wipeout hd cup" in the end, in my psn pms lol.
Arh it's christmas, business is business maybe.

kanar
6th November 2010, 08:48 PM

WELCOME BACK OBH !!! :hyper:hyper:hyper:rock:rock:rock

Oryx Crake
6th November 2010, 08:58 PM
Good seed list I must say. and all of the ones I've raced are also very nice people (not that that really matters on the track) it'll probaly take a few ounces (or tons) of effort to make a name for oneself in this tournament :D

I'm anxious to get started to say the least. :beer

kanar
6th November 2010, 10:56 PM
eh eh yeah you can be anxious, jeez this is way too much emotions for a simple videogame lol. For sure I'm going to practice a bit more this 1vs1 racing in the next few weeks, it's really a control pressure thing (nah of course it's practice first, but stress can also ruins your racing lines eh eh). Anyway that's going to be awesome fun there for sure, and yeah the most important thing is to participate, really. OOOOh btw guys, I had the confirmation today we're secretely followed by SCEE eh eh. AArh sadly no support or anything like that I think (except the online ads errr well no in fact lol, seriously why they couldn't put our teasers instead for god sake), but it just feels good to know they're lurking a bit around! STUDIO LIVERPOOL ROCKS GUYS! FOREVER!

8 SEEDED PLAYER GROUPS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE SOON (tomorrow or monday)

Medusa
6th November 2010, 11:08 PM
:hyper:rock

I'm sooo excited for this guys, it's scary! Especially now that I know the list of seeded players I will definitely lose to...all you others, look out, I'm TNT (watch me explode)!! LOL
This is going to be exciting even just to follow, super cool stuff, and whoever is so fortunate as to record their matches, even more awesome. I look forward to getting my slow train whipped, and you make sure you whip it, whip it good.

kanar
7th November 2010, 12:16 AM
oh you're right Medusa, the word is scary yes. I'm actually watching the seeded player list & now I've an idea of their group affectations, definitely the scariest thing ever. And there's a lot more pilots not seeded & wth the same level : OMG that's going to be crazy. From Round 1 to the end, I strongly suggest you guys to record all the races. Cos' we're about to see a fantastic show. By far the best line up ever, without the japanese sadly, & Flashback_Jack lol. One slot left Mike, coooooooommmmmmmeeeeee oooooooooonnnnnnnnnn...

Szei
7th November 2010, 03:08 AM
I'm really excited to watch this. Everyone who can please post videos! =) Wish I could take that last spot, but I can only play WipEout at my uncle's and it's a 45 minute train ride to get there so it's not very practical. >.<

Mr Phlanj
7th November 2010, 05:59 AM
just thought i would say that when i faced Leungbok i found out i can (and will) use my Mr Phlanj account.

hope its not too much trouble to ask to change it kanar :beer

p.s. also ill add the friends i have on ploppy1988 to MrPhlanj

kanar
7th November 2010, 08:17 AM
that's ok mate, just changed it 1st post. Ok Blackwiggle ran the randomizer machine (with the setting "no more than 2 pilots of the same nationality"), and here are the seeded groups of death... Please not there will be another random toss wth the other 24 pilots in each division. No meeting between seeds at least til round 3 ;).

One very small thing I noticed when I saw (AUS) next to a couple of names, aren't Danterich and eLhabib Austrian (AUT)?

kanar

kanar
7th November 2010, 08:55 AM
yeah I realised just yesterday night the line up was like the first page of the online boards (minus the glitchers lol) or Connavar ones. I'm about to launch the registration confirmation process, and I REALLY HOPE everyone who registered will participate. It's definitely LEGENDARY STUFF on the paper. Crazy. Now best hopes everyone is motivated by this Matrix trip :rock

Dark_Phantom_89

Wow, those seeded groups are REALLY tough - I think everyone is going to have a difficult ride when they have to face off against each other. 8)

blackwiggle
7th November 2010, 09:23 AM
There are a lot of seeded pilots that newer pilots might not of heard about or have raced before, mainly because they've been "retired" for a good while.

I'm imagining a few "WTF! where did this guy come from?" sort of match reports when some of the new pilots race the old during this tournament. :)

Dark_Phantom_89

Just noticed that there is still a slot reserved for a Russian player. Did he ever get back to you about it Kanar?

Oh my days!!!! My group is UNBELIEVABLY tough!

Z1r0rEi, chaos80, kingheim, Myself, Kyonshi, TarotCardKiller, JJPAP & Asayyeah!!!????

:o:o:o:o:o

I bet JJPAP's poor little face dropped when he saw that :)

kanar
7th November 2010, 09:33 AM
lool good you noticed that, let me tell you the story then. I was curious about this russian tournament organised by silversword, then I made a google search & I effectively found a russian wipeout tournament organised by silversword lol. I let him some more time to come back to us wth a winner for now. Funny story anyway.

phaeton_pl

I see myself in a group of death beside Rezatron? LOL Are you serious? I'm really crappy at multiplayer racing, far from top 100 :brickwall

kanar
7th November 2010, 09:45 AM
I am into Rezatron board (vulture board). It's maybe even worse for you mate lol, you're in merlin division, wth pirah, wotan... I know I know it's scary. I'm not a multiplayer pilot too... BUT. 1vs1 REALLY LOOKS LIKE OFFLINE I SWEAR IT, just check the logs of the actual avalon cup or the 1vs1 thread.

OH & REMEMBER GUYS :

EASTSIDE = LEFT PART OF THE BOARD

WESTSIDE = RIGHT PART OF THE BOARD

7th November 2010, 10:14 AM
Well done Kanar and Blackwiggle for getting that sorted out, don't think I'll be making it out of the Falcon group alive ;). So is that how we are positioned on the board, I'm in the top slot and then Amorbis is in the second seeded spot?

kanar
7th November 2010, 10:25 AM
Ok I just sorted this out wth blackwiggle, KGB;

seeded groups of death order is not your definitive position in the boards (we'll draw the order as soon as we'll have the definitive 192 listing. Oh & there's a list of waiting seeded player too, in case of an early seed withdrawal.

blackwiggle
7th November 2010, 10:33 AM
No KGB it's not a seed rank in each group.
I just gave each of the 64 seeded pilots a number, ran a random sequence generator and that's basically how the groups ended up turning out.
Your number came up first in F group.
We had to make about 10 changes as there was a few instances of too many pilots of one country in a group.

kanar
7th November 2010, 10:42 AM
I think my answer is better suited for kgb's question there mate lol (or my english understanding is def a no-go, which is possible too). Ok guys, a final explanation there, & I'm going to tweet this one.

FAQ
WTF are these seeds?

===> Leungbok, JJPAP, Blackwiggle, KGB1971, Pirahpac, SaturnReturn, Ace3 & Fyue3, DP89, OBH, Triboy, Yeldar, GS, Luna & me based ourselves on :

-Online rankings
-Connavar Rankings

-Common knowledge of the level playing field

Then they gave me their list, and I realised a poll of their thoughts. Here are the most quoted names. I've some kind of seeded waiting list too, in case a seed would have to withdraw before the start of the competition.

WTF ARE THESE SEEDED GROUP OF DEATH?

-We launched a randomizer to sort 8 groups of 8 seeds, tweaked by nationality. Seed order in each group will be tossed later, with the definitive 192 pilot listing.

Hope I've cleared up everything there now.

My entire head dropped off my shoulders! In fact I´m writing right now w/o a head, but it must be somewhere in the neighbourhood, I guess. I better take a walk trying to find it pretty soon, ´cause we have Nordic Sessions tonight ...
And thinking of 24 more fast madmen entering the Hawks Group in december, makes it all the more hardcore, almost surrealistic!
Wish I had to race every single one of you :)

Sensational line-up!

So question from me, are you put in 1 of the groups and play 1 opponent or do you play some of them / all of them?

kanar
7th November 2010, 12:04 PM
hey jav, reread this one http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185492&postcount=564

then let me know if something's missing in my explanations, in short:

seeded order in their group to be sorted out, and global 192 toss to be done; you have 1 chance over 3 I think, to draw a seed first round. direct elimination like tennis mate remember gah no more battery on my laptop lool

amplificated
7th November 2010, 12:10 PM
I think it would be like this:

-Group 1-
Seed 1------\___Seed 1------\
unseeded---/........................\____Seed 1
......................................... /
unseeded---\___ Seed 2------/
Seed 2------/

-Group 2-
Seed 1------\___Seed 1------\
unseeded---/........................\____Seed 1
......................................... /
unseeded---\___ Seed 2------/
Seed 2------/

And both Seed 1's would then play each other? I don't think you face anyone from the East Side if you're West side until the finals. Am I right?

kanar
7th November 2010, 12:15 PM
exactly mate, & hope you guys will have a clear view with this post http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185492&postcount=564

seeded order in their group to be sorted out, and global 192 toss to be done; you have 1 chance over 3 I think, to draw a seed first round. And no possible seed opposition until round 3. direct elimination like tennis. The final huge massive board will be up real soon guys anyway.

Jav
7th November 2010, 12:17 PM
Totally right.

256 players in 8 groups means 32 players in each group. 8 players are seeded in each group, and 24 are not. 1/4 chance you get a seeded, and 3/4 chance you get an unseeded player.

It also means you will only play someone from another group if you are the 'winner' of your group (the only one to come out of it alive).

Tough competition!

7th November 2010, 01:25 PM
One last thing worth clarifying that I can tell at the moment:
It's written here (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185492&postcount=564) that East Side is the left side of the board and West Side the right; but above the group listings it has West Side on the left and East Side on the right, which I think should be correct since that's the horizontal axis while facing North (as is typical..).

thx mic for noticing this, correct now. Jeeeeeez spent the night sending confirmation pms. PLEASE guys answer asap, and let me know quickly if you're on the moon or something and can't compete in December. Also, these dates (dec 20 to January 9) can be tweaked a bit in function of your status by that time (means you could maybe arrange your meeting before, if we can sort the line up in advance, or to the contrary we could give you a few more days after Jan. 9 to complete your round (in the case you'll be back in the middle of the meeting scheduled window). Ok so guys, please confirm your status asap, so we could maybe begin the party earlier eh eh.

I've used the random selector to sort ALL 192 Unseeded pilots into 8 groups.

I'll leave it to KANAR to post the sorting as it came up.
It uses the numbers he gave everybody as they joined the tournament.
Check your name/number against the pilots list on the first page of this thread to see what group you are in.

This is ONLY what group you are in, not who you are racing against.

I'll do a separate random draw for each group to see who races who once that group has 100% confirmation.

Be patient, we want to get this right.

kanar
8th November 2010, 12:45 PM
yeah there's some minor adjustments to be done, I'll do my best to sort this out tonight as I'm at work atm, but not sure cos' I've already the registration confirmation process to follow (collecting your datas=> then modifying your status first page/answering to your questions in the same time/or sending again this fkin rule pic which is corrupted 0kb half of the time/OR just hearing you'll be on the moon in December/you changed your mind cos' you're finally not interested).

A very important thing now. Once again feel free to invite people into this cup, I've already 3 withdrawals, and I'm suspecting a lot more. So it's not 4 slots left, it's probably around 10/20 left in the end. So if you could convert some skilled randoms into nice zoners this month, or just invite them to participate, THAT would be great.

Anyway, I'll send you again Storm & mic the rule pic in a few minutes, when I'll turn the messaging machine on lol. A warm welcome to Robe-94 & huteer, thanks for joining this monster cup. Yeah definitely a monster one there.

I'm missing the picture too (and probably everyone else too).

If you want to keep the picture hidden (don't want to show it in this thread) then you can maybe send a PM with the image URL to imageshack or something.

Or maybe you can make a Wipeout HD Cup social group with all the information that is invite-only (invitation after you confirm registration via PM on PSN)? Maybe it's too much work though (do all 256 contenders even have an account here?).

no it's not a secret code, it's only the detailed rules & regulations of the cup by Saturn. It's working half of the time, then people got it on my 2nd try. Erich123 just got it after 4 tries. It was just for helping you guys to have the rules directly on your ps3.

Starting to be a bit paranoid there

though I opened it very soon after Kanar sent it out...

Seems like my attachments are considered as spam now.

This pic is natively way too much massive & can't be reduced to 800x600. Or feel free to share it wth friends if you got it.

This is the board matrix. Sorry I forgot to use another color for the seeded players, just remember there won't be any seed opposition 'til round 3. (Seeded player list => HERE (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185492&postcount=564))

Your name appears if you confirmed your status before 15:00 gmt+1 today. I'll update these clouds on a daily basis if I can (contrary to the global line up code, updated 3 times a day). The numbers corresponds to people who didn't confirm yet. And a CCM is a Cup Community Manager aka Raptor, the one who follow your journey into this cup from the start until your elimination.

There's still a final draw to make, and obviously we can't do it now, with less than half of confirmed slots;
Your final position/opposition in your board. Just remember one thing, no seed opposition 'til round 3, 1/4 chance you get a seeded, and 3/4 chance you get an unseeded player.

Oh of course these ugly pics will be replaced soon by Darkdrium' gorgeous board.

CUP COMMUNITY MANAGERS aka THE RAPTORS ARE : Kanar, JJPAP, KGB, Jasmin, Blackwiggle, triboy, R3BU5ER, UB3R~JKP

uuuuurrrrgh mate. I could say "never say never" but well not for me. I felt I couldn't retire without organising a grand finale with all my friends, but I didn't realise the massive amount of work that had to be done for that lol. Darkdrium warned me, but to my mind 256 was so cool... It is. But woah this is really huge, need constant attention, coordination wth the others at the command center, endless hours spent sending pms/mail/updating stuffs... Crazy thing, and tbh the wife is hating you guys already lol. So another cup is a no go for me. And there's the fact lots of the registered pilots are on the same line as me, I mean it's their wipeout grand finale too (gt5 is coming lol). I suggest you to join us on this one mate, you won't regret it, and tbh there's all level playing fields, I'm sure you could get through round 1.

all its members have been contacted by me who belong here the other will be contacted tommorow.

purpose is to help in organising and making world cup easier

have a look at it.

perhaps create your own group too if it helps you too organise

way I see it is when the cup starts this thread is going to be bombarded and if each group has their own page the raptor can feed all results and information to kanar just to make things a bit better.

just thought i would share...if anyone needs some ideas

yeah I was seriously stuned when I saw the final result (the work in progress was already badass, but now OMG). Btw guys, please report any errors in the board compositions or whatever. It was sooo late yesterday when I finished, some copy/errors gremlins are maybe still hidden there. I forgot to report Constrictor4u in his Kestrel group for eg. (fixed), I forgot to register TarquinFarqhuar (he said yes sept 26 gah) and hopefully it's fixed too. But yeah my brain has been really overclocked with the cup these past few days (OMG the drawed numbers transformed to names, took fkin ages) so I hope everything's ok now.

Hi, as I did not follow the complete rules decision process and did not find anything on why eliminator is not allowed (when both opponents have fury add-on) during the cup, is there anyone from the steering committee who is able to clarify - for me ;) ?

btw, rules are ok and no Eliminator is ok w/ me, too. Though a 1 vs.1 eliminator is quite interesting, needs good skills and tactics and is not as quake dependent as in 4+ player races.

Excellent stuff guys:+

Board looks brilliant.
Hopefully once this is over, we can have the big board saved with all the results somewhere on wz for all eternity :)

The big one really shows off the scale of the tournament your trying to achieve :clap

p.s
On a personal note, i like that the 1st seeded players i may come up against are kingheim then JJPAP or TCK.

In my opinion Eliminator games completely ruin the flow of a good 1v1 session. Takes ages and it's dull, imo. :)

To be honest constrictor, we talked a lot about that (eliminator mode), and well we chose to stay on the racing style. ZB integration created already a lot of controversy lol, although it's a fantastic mode, requiring the same amount of skills as single races. I'm not saying eliminator requires no skills, it's just about what I said above, as for the avalon cup, we decided to stay on the racing basis. But, there's still the gentleman's agreement "hidden rules". Not written, but if you're falling against someone you know well, and if you guys are both ok; you're free to customize the default settings like; you're both up to tweak the gameplay, adding some green races or eliminator? go for it. But only if you're both ok. Any other case ===> Default settings aka single race weapons on, single race weapons off, zone battle.

Thx kanar! I'm able to follow ... For me it will be interesting to see if there are some skilled and openminded +eliminator pilots around in Krestel. Most (all?) of the high skilled racers are normally not present (or run away) in those races.

@Jav: You're right in terms of 'flow' when one is in classic racing mode. Dull, well, that hurts  :) I might use this term with respect to ZB ... ups, a weak spot ... maybe

The board is superb, just a question though. Why have you got such a big image for the finalist part of it, can it be resized?I made the whole thing so that all eight groups could feature in one image. I arbitrarily decided that the board would be 4000x2000 in resolution, with each group's board being 1000x500.
The finalists part right now is basically the center part of the huge 4000x2000 board, so it's 2000x2000.
I could make a smaller version for sure for the mini-board to link to instead of the center because it's only eight players at this point.
But when all is said and done I think people will like to show off the big board and say "Look mom, I won the whole thing!" ;)

KGB
11th November 2010, 06:35 PM
Yep, I thought that was the reason ;). It's just that going from the particular groups which fit the computer screen to one that I need to move about to see didn't feel right to me. Not being picky though, it's a fantastic thing of beauty :clap.

And fact is you were deadly at some point of the wipeout hd story lol, and you still have a month to get back in good shape for the cup. ok just a small update on the cup. Confirmation process started last sunday, and we have 67.96 % confirmed pilots so far. I think we'll reach 75/80% in the next few days, judging by the names who haven't confirmed yet. But there will be inevitably this 10/15% (hope it won't be more) of people who changed their mind for whatever reason. We already have 3 more slots available, so if you want to join us, you're more than welcome. Once again, this cup is nothing but FUN. We're not bot pilots chaining 5 phantom PL laps each race, & practicing 10h a day. We're simply wipeout fans, and we just want to honour Studio Liverpool's masterpiece all together, a last time.

And of course this one for Marcus too. I'm sure he would have been among the first pilots to confirm his slot.

the group leaders (raptors) are suppossed to check for these as well as weirdo players who have signed up for the cup and have not even played wipeout (sounds dumb but its has already happened to kgb)
Kanar checks the group leaders so everyone gets double checked to make sure its cool..and im sure players themselves will raise any concerns they have too if something weird or strange happens during the cup.

Yeah I'm 100% sure we will have a few second accounts in the cup, which is a shame for people who want to play. I have found two players in the Falcon group that don't have Wipeout HD listed on their trophy list :dizzy. There might be some reason for it but I can't think what it could be.

yeah the cup community managers are actually doing a fantastic job so far. This is the most critical part of the cup atm. Gettin rid of the hidden quitters/weirdoes is not an easy task, cos' in all these blue IDs there's probably busy people/lazzy people too, still interested by the cup. Hopefully there's still a month to register nice chaps like TheGermanOne.
256 is a huge number, hard to find a stable 1st round line up but I'm sure we can make it. We'll have a definitely stable board after round 1, 128 pilots & probably all motivated to continue the adventure.

@KGB1971

your so right

as for suspect accounts i got 7 on my list

one is a blatent fake account who should be thrown out unless they can prove their main account is not already entered.

4 are suspect so i need another raptor or kanar to check these due to iregularities in trophey timescales

I have two fake primary accounts.these are known main accounts that are fake looking based on their trophey timescales but unless I can find their secondary less known account and it is also entered into the world cup they are fine too play in the cup.
as the only rules is you can only enter once and second ids are fine if you are not entered multiple times.

kanar
15th November 2010, 04:23 PM
Kgb, Jasmin, and all the other Raptors of course, you guys are doing an excellent work so far. Tbh I'm not too worried about a possible second account registered in the cup. Because obviously we'll discover him soon enough, especially if it's a good pilot lol. This 256 pilots line up still needs to be cleaned of all the remaining ghost quitters, but we're still right on schedule for Dec. 20. I even would like to begin earlier for some pilots who have family obligations during Christmas, and give a delay to others in the other hand. So we'll have a long lasting first round for sure, from Dec. 10 (best expectations) to January 16 (last deadline). One more quitter hunted down today btw, so one slot free (and around 10 to 15 virtual ones:donut).

Oh I thought it could be good to go back once again to the basics with the rules, as I felt some of you guys had difficulties regarding certain aspects and so on. So once again, a simple explanation try there :

1vs1, direct elimination tournament based competition, best of seven rounds (detailed board redirections first post).

ALLOWED MODES :
-SINGLE RACE WEAPONS ON
-SINGLE RACE WEAPONS OFF
-ZONE BATTLE

YOU PICK 3. YOUR OPPONENT PICKS 3. RACE 7 IS ALWAYS ANULPHA PASS FWD, WEAPONS ON, RAPIER.

SUB-SETTINGS INTO THESE MODES ARE FREE (LAPS/SPEED CLASS/BR ON-OFF)

YOU MUST PICK AT LEAST 2 DIFFERENT MODES FOR YOUR 3 CHOICES (EX : 2 ZB & 1 SR WEAPONS ON)

HIDDEN RULES/GENTLEMEN AGREEMENT

=>IF BOTH PILOTS REACH A COMMON AGREEMENT :

-ELIMINATOR MODE CAN BE ADDED
-GREEN RACES CAN BE ADDED
-3 ZB OR 3 SR WEAPONS ON OR 3 SR WEAPONS OFF CAN BE SELECTED
-YOU CAN PLAY YOUR MEETING ON GT5 (JOKIN)

As soon as we drawed lots :

You establish contact with your opponent. You exchange your CUP ID CARDS. You have 72h to make your 3 choices & submit them to your opponent. You quickly set some possible dates for your meeting with your opponent. You finally play your meeting, and finally both pilots report the result to their Raptor. They're free to write a complete report here btw. There will be some kind of report thread, to be confirmed.

I disagree with the way this is shaping up so add 1 to the free slots.

When I entered I thought it would be all the names in a hat, 2 picked out and
they play, whoever thay are. That was fair in my mind - it gave the underdog a
chance. Plus I find the seeded player list insulting, to be perfectly blunt, I'm
better than half of them.

Good luck to morfeo378 from the group I was put in, you beat me most races
anyway.

kanar
16th November 2010, 06:03 AM
First, thanks for the update there Akirapill, as I prefer to read that kind of stuff now & not next month.
You find the seeded player list insulting? So you're insulting these people's choice there ; Leungbok, JJPAP, Blackwiggle, KGB1971, Pirahpac, SaturnReturn, Ace3 & Fyue3, DP89, OBH, Triboy, Yeldar, GS, Luna & me.
You find the system unfair? 3 chances over 4 to pick an unseed, 1/4 to pick a seed. You said you were better than half of the seeds anyway (Laughin my ASS loud)

I think I never raced you in 2 years, and god I spent some time online. So we obviously can't say if you're good or not, and we'll never know anyway now lol. Did you ever participate to some online tournaments organised here? (not specially from me btw). Farewell and thanks for letting Rubix42 enter the cup.

Reading that kind of feedback comforts me in my decision to end with all the organisation stuff after this cup.

TBH, I'm surprised that I'm a seed over some players (I'm only online level 40 and have never competed in any online events like Avalon, Xpand, etc.), and there are a lot of signed up players who are really good and yet unseeded...

However, the seeds are just to help divide the pool and reduce the chances of really good players being eliminated in round one. If you're good enough to beat most seeds, good for you, and you could do well in the tournament - and that should probably be more important to you than being on a list generated by people you mostly don't, or barely, know.
There are definitely a decent number of unseeded players IMO that are really good and could get pretty far, and I'm sure there's a decent possibility of seeded players getting knocked out round 1 (probably just jinxed it for me right then :P).

I think quitting because you supposedly aren't in the top 64 most favourited to win is beside the point of the cup, which is just to have nice, gigantic, WOHD tournament. The people who are taking charge of the event are just trying to make things fair, and I think they're doing a fine job so far. No one is doing this for money - it's all just for fun. And bragging rights :P

blackwiggle
16th November 2010, 07:03 AM
Your probably better off being a seeded pilot as it means you won't meet another seeded pilot at least until round 3

mic-dk
16th November 2010, 08:13 AM
On the other hand you could face off with one of the many very good unseeded pilots in the first or second round and still get to wear your bottom as a hat. I spot at least 3 or 4 unseeded players in my group I rather wouldn't want to face in any round.

While all the seeded players are good, you're only as good as your last race and I too expect a few upsets in the first round.

Oh and it is rather amusing someone actually is insulted not to be seeded. Get over yourself and prove to the world how good you are!

R3BU5ER
16th November 2010, 09:01 AM
Me Also wouldn't be surprised if some of the seeded players will be defeated in the first or second round... There are lots of unseeded players with skill, who will get people surprised I guess.

P.s Sorry fellow raptors, my real life has been busy last few weeks but I'm off for 2 days now, so I will contact the unconfirmed pilots of my merlin group TONIGHT! Peace

kanar
16th November 2010, 11:03 AM
no worries R3BU5ER, we still have time. As you said guys, we'll probably see lots of surprises round 1. Amplificated, you're in the seeded player list regarding your overall wipeout HD career. As I said, we based ourselves on :

-Online rankings
-Connavar Rankings
-Avalon tournaments
-Other Zone tournaments
-Common knowledge of the level playing field

When I'm doing a search on Connavar's website with your name, I easily understand why you're seeded. When I'm doing the same search wth akirapill, I don't see someone able to beat half of the seeds, even a seed who retired last year, or an injured seed playing with one single hand or his foots. Seriously I can't understand people sometimes. Did you ever see me one single time bragging about my speed lap times?
Of course we had to make a choice, otherwise we would have around 100 seeded players.

PS : They fked my access at WZ once again at work, so see you guys later around 17h gmt+1.

I know Kanar, Just wanted to keep you informed :)

And you're right About the seeded player list. People can complain about it, but it has no use at all...the connavar is discutable though, many pilots haven't or couldn't ( like me) filled in any times there. And there could tactics be used against the titans. There will be surprises indeed. Let's rock wipers!

Darkdrium777
16th November 2010, 11:55 AM
Plus I find the seeded player list insulting, to be perfectly blunt, I'm better than half of them.Erm okay.

I'm retired now (been so for about a year) but let me just give you what I know.

I've played against or know everyone on the seeded list but the following people:

AIIRW0LF
CHRIS-_REDFIELD
FLAFLASAT
MORFEO378
PP234

That means that everyone else on the seeded list has:
-Been playing the game for two years, including online play; or
-Been active in the community enough that I recall their names somehow.

And that's not entirely accurate even because now that I think about it real hard I recall seeing AIIRW0LF posting on the forums here and CHRIS-_REDFIELD from maybe an online race?

Also, that's not the end of it. From the players left unseeded, there are many more who have been playing for equally as long that I know for certain.

What I'm doing is putting this in perspective. You said you are better than half the seeded players (Who were chosen by a group after careful consideration.) That also means you are better than the unseeded players I know of who are also very good (In theory land anyways.)
If you are this confident in yourself, why did you back out?

It's a shame because even though it's a tournament it isn't all about winning it's also about being a part of it in some way. I can't race but I was motivated enough to make these boards you see, because this whole thing is for the whole community.

Now you will be missing out on your occasion, just because of a list that in fact doesn't really mean much because if you are the best you will win (Unless there's some bad luck.)

Too bad I guess, but I hope that now with what I told you you realize that you were not the only one who is good (probably I haven't raced you I don't think) but unseeded. Don't be insulted next time if there is another occasion.

KGB
16th November 2010, 02:18 PM
Personally, for me, it's hard to tell how good someone is when you have maybe raced them 5 times in two years. I can imagine a few people upset with not being seeded, the best way to answer that is show your worth on the track and prove us wrong. Time will tell if we got it right with the seeds or not.

akirapill
16th November 2010, 02:20 PM
I'm not really bothered about whos on the seeded list (I wasn't expecting to be
on it anyway), it's the way it's been set up, it's like saying your all good and
the rest of you are just here to make up the numbers, yea it'll be more likely for
two big names from the list to be in the final, but do we want that? Wouldn't
we rather have random races where the is a slim chance, but still a chance
that someone we've never heard of will be in the final. Yea all the good players
are more likley to get there but the way it is now the underdog has no chance
of getting through the group stages.

Do you see what I mean?

We probably could of picked 100 seeded pilots if it would of suited the layout of the competition board.
I think Kanar chose the correct amount, any more than 25% of the field would of been overkill.

I prefare the way the FA Cup is drawn which had no seeds.

Or like the soccer world cup....Italy, France and Holland in one group WTF!
But this is little different with sudden-death from the start.

Actually Akirapill, I sort of agree with you. I would also have liked to see it drawn that way, but it just isn't. And I'm totally fine with it. And I totally disagree with the way you're posting your 2 cents here. Very immature and sad. Too bad man. :paperbag

I actually agree with akira, but he could've chosen his words more carefully. Rather than being so blunt you could've just said you think a system without seeded players would've been more fun and I agree with that. :)

And I'm sure you'll understand not everyone can be a seeded player, I know for a fact you're a great pilot (I raced you a few days ago I believe?). So no hard feelings man.

me? I defend myself. Who immature? Forget it, I wont post in this thread
anymore.

I defended my mates, as I usually do. And Yeah I laughed at you because of that :

Plus I find the seeded player list insulting, to be perfectly blunt, I'm
better than half of them.

That was totally disrespectful regarding the guys in the list, and as DD777 pointed out, regarding the entire line up. You come from nowhere and you're saying that HERE. This behaviour totally pissed me off when I woke up this morning. Such disrespect toward people who litterally INCARNATED the game for 2 years now. You seem to have no idea of what these people are representing for the game & the community. Just keep in mind that every shortcut, every boost spot, every single good line is a little thanks to them. Did you miss the wipeout video thread or?
And last but not least. FYI, I'm playing online only when I'm drunk & high. Even if I'm respecting multiplayer 8 pilots cambodia races, I focused myself on the offline competition for a long time ago now. So tbh, I REALLY DON'T GIVE A **** about the result of the race, as it's just to share some good fun/rockets in the ass online. You want to play me fully powered? Just ask for it on the 1vs1 thread. Or ask to kgb if you can enter the UK line up for the upcoming UK/FR team meeting.

You clearly asked for an airstrike here. Seriously, who showed up first. And wtf with the FA cup? Am I a football team all by myself (or the other pilots), or did I miss something? Is wipeout about team or individual competition? Do you believe there will be a Federer/Nadal opposition first round next Wimbledon tournament? Can I ask for a wild card then? As R3BU5ER said, I you feel better now, I'm happy for you. But don't ask me if I'm happy now myself, no I'm ****ing pissed off by your behaviour because it's the kind of behaviour I have to face at my job, with the huge difference I'm paid for that. I can't tell you the entire world of wipeout story because I'm not paid for that. And I only know a little part of it, as I arrived here during the post pure, pulse era. You clearly missed way too much episodes. So I can only encourage you to do some forum search, so you could understand a little better this mysterious seeded player list/conspiracy theory you can't bear and you're able to beat anyway, at least for half of them if I recall correctly.

Is there really any need for that?

I cant see how youd expect to be seeded, or indeed care so much, if people dont know who you are......?? pretty impossible to judge a mans talents if youve never seen him play...

akirapill
16th November 2010, 06:21 PM
There no need for all that Kanar man. I understand that you've put a lot of
time and effort into this and I respect you for that, so your opintion does
mean something to me. Everyones entitaled to have an opinion and I've
voiced mine. You think it's funny, big deal.

Who said anything about being football team all by themselves? I'm talking
about the way the cup is setup, the draw, I'm not sure if your deliberately
trying to make me look foolish or you missunderstood. Basically I think having
a seed list is sh*t because it almost guarantees a big name orgasmic climax,
(and I didn't think that that was what this cup was about, my mistake?) you
think it's great. You think giving EVERYONE a random chance is sh*t, I think
it's great. I wouldn't have had a list.

The problem with having a list is that it divides people and this happens. Now
I'm insulted because I think I'm better than half of them, they're insulted
because I said that. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks they're
better than half the people on it, but it's a hard thing to put together. Arsed.

And the only reason I said I wouldn't post here again was because I didn't
want the thread to get to far off track and for this to happen.

Bottom line is that the setup isn't "shaping up" in any way other than how it was set out at the beginning. The Avalon Cup was posted right at the start as an example. That tournament was billed from the start as the Wimbledon of WipEout. It had seeds. I didn't see any strong objection to that. I did, however, see strong objection to one of the biggest names going out first round. None of that is opinion or preference, it's just fact. It was plain and clear to everyone IMO, so if anyone doesn't like the format then they should simply get over it this time around and learn to look into things a little more before accepting next time around.

So let's all move on from this now.

R3BU5ER

also i can ubderstand kanar point of view.he has bent over backwards for the last 6 weeks aranging something fantastif and at the 11h hour someone pops up whining about how this comp has been arranged.
personally i dont want a lucky did comp where it could be possible for a crap player to win.i want to see a real champion.if you even chance competition i suggest national lottery instead.
the seeds that were chosen are players from the history of wohd.for there legendary playing skills during there active period.im sure every seed will show us top level play during the comp.

The seeded list would have some names that would be unfamiliar to people that weren't playing HD when it first came out, there are a few "Out of retirement" pilots that wouldn't have been seen online in a very long time, at least 12 months, some longer.
They were chosen as seeds for a reason, basically because the are consistently very fast.
If they are still any good after such a long absence I guess we shall find out.

The tournament is all supposed to be just a BIG FUN GG to celebrate Wipeout and how it has brought us all together to play a game we all love.

I'm not that competitive to worry about my possible progress in the tournament, or who I might end up racing once the draw is done, it really doesn't matter to me.

It shouldn't really matter to anybody who understands the spirit in what this tournament is all about.

When I entered I thought it would be all the names in a hat, 2 picked out and
they play, whoever thay are. That was fair in my mind - it gave the underdog a
chance.

I understand what you mean.. If I were to arrange a cup myself and didn't know how to set things up, this would seem like a good alternative to me. It seems to me like you have jumped to a conclusion that the system is bad, without the knowledge of how competitions in general are played. That's just what it seems like to me. But then again, I way be wrong.

__________________________________________________ _______________

The problem with two names out of a hat:

To make the competition most enjoyable for the people playing and for the eager ones that follow the competition, the last thing you want is to randomly pick out the two best players in the entire competition to face each other in the first round. While it will most likely be a good show then and there, you really wanna save those extra-special races for the finals. With two names out of a hat, you can get this problem. I can't really find any positive things about this system.

Seeding system:

The way to avoid the above mentioned scenario is to seed players, simply based on their skill. While this is a superficial way of arranging a cup. It's clearly the best, and is used in most competitions in the world. It gives almost everyone an enjoyable experience, and following the progression of the competition becomes an evermore exiting affair for the viewer. A negative side of this method is probably the seeds itself, but that is if they are misunderstood. When you hear that a competition is going to have seeds, it only means that the competition is trying it's best to be fun and balanced, and not trying to create a gap between the newbies and the elite.

__________________________________________________ _______________

I won't bother going into to much detail, but that's just the basic premise of it.

And you say: "it gave the underdog a chance." A chance of what? Winning the tourney? Yes, actually. Your "two name out of a hat" system could potentially grant a very inexperienced player the title of winner of the entire tourney, if they only met low skilled opponents, and all the top players eliminated each other during the first rounds. But then you have to ask yourself: Did the winner really deserve it?

Props to kanar again for being an awesome guy, and for everything you did/do for this commuinty. You honestly couldn't have done anything better when it comes to how you handle this cup, and I mean it! Thank you.

That's why in fighting games tournaments the Double Elimination ladder is used, but in our case it'd make whole event muuuuuchhhhhh longer, so imo it's fine as it is.

I understand where your comming from with the seeding system ONlock, but for
me personally, knowing which group I'd be in and knowing who I can beat in
there and who I'm more than likely to lose against just takes the fun out of it
for me, I just can't see the point of going through the motions. I know I'm not
the best and I wasn't expecting to get into the final, but I can see how I'm
going to go out before I've even started and it depresses me. I said this to
Rezatron last night, I'm de-motivated. And I know it's more about the taking
part, but it's just not fun for me. The names out of a hat system would keep
me interested, not knowing who I'm upagainst next I'd be involved in it and I'd
just except it.

Maybe I should shut just my mouth, but Akiparill why act (in this thread) - when you´ve already decided not to participate in the WOHDC (and I´m honestly sorry for that!) - like the strange man entering every single chapter of Kiezlowski´s Decalog without any reasonable purpose?
I´m pretty sure you´ll meet a lot of "Seeded" (and extremely good and uberfast "Un-Seeded" pilots) if you go online in the evening around 21-22 GMT or later. Mostly pretty relaxed people, who doesn´t bother too much if they loose a race or ten.
Personally: Just send a Friend´s Request through PSN and we can practice when ever I (and you) have the time: Mostly monday and friday mornings, tuesday around noon - even sometimes in the evening, when the kids are sleeping quitely and the missus don´t overrule my need to occupy the telly.
But don´t forget to invite the "Un-Seeded" pilots for your practicing as well! After all: We´re All ("Seeded" or "Un-Seeded") Friends in Speed!

Aki, you could even do a new "Invitational Thread", ´cause this thread is all about the Grand Fiesta of gathering as much wipers, interested in ... Well, having a party - because of their dedication to WipEout.

I just had a thought that the seeded players should ignore your request akirapill but maybe I'm too much of an asshole.
They can decide on their own based on what you said about them after all.

Now I'm gonna be a bit more friendly and if you want to play with people in the 1v1 environment of the cup (but without the cup part) there's this thread (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7691).

hacenetchik was one of my seeds as well. There are some others not on there that I had chosen too. QjonPL and Jav are two others that spring to mind, lus loads more I couldn't have due to my initial list of over 100 seed choices :eek But it was a fairly robust system, so if our choices didn't end up as seeds then I guess we just have to assume we know better than the others. :P

I'm looking at the seedings and marlin buzzard divisions look like the toughest from where I'm sitting. Possibly with buzzards being the very toughest. Luxo, Wellington, Greenix, Elois are all ridiculously fast. Then the other four - fabimus, imre, onlocke, morfeo - are also very fast, but additionally killer online players, That is some scary stuff.:cold

I think it's fun to look at the chart and see who you might face, and to cheer on their opposition along the way. ;)

just occured to me what this seeded problem is..
what they should of done is an unseeded list of 64 players.they probally would of but couldnt find enough rubbish players to put on it.problem with wipeout is nearly everyone is fantastic at playing.chances are that those who are not will be as they really only have to be good on there 3 tracks and the default one to beat their opponent.
in theory if you were good enough you could say to your opponent "hey look we will just assume you won all your races so lets just do mine and then win the default race.shame i would never be in a position to do so but im sure there are a few who could comfortably do this.
