I'd just like to say kudos to everyone who took part, especially the real sportsmen amongst us. I only had two rivals, but both were true gents and this was a truly epic event that you ran, Kanar.

You should still publish it mate. I only heard a bit of it, but it sounded pretty good to me. Or maybe you could do one about the Cup finishing? You could tak about each of the matches, pilot specialities/common track choices, surprise exits, the final eight, etc.

It's now been to the day a year since matches started in the wipeout HD cup and quite a while since it all finished. In hindsight I am surprised it finished so "quickly" what with psn outages and it being an online thing. but it was great fun to take part in and follow for me.

now onto my point of business if you will: I've kept the site (http://wohdcup.sommarpojkarna.com) up for posterity but I'm wondering if you guys want it around as a record or if it's time for the old beast to die.

Let me know what you think.

Hey Oryx Crake, i think you should keep it up if its possible... i know i probably came last lol but i still feel proud to have taken part!!
Also its good to look at as a reference for the future of the forum, over time this forum will grow and grow with each new game and newcomers will look at the old "Wipeout Cup" website and be intrigued and want to have their name on the next cup, even if they come last lol!
Sooo.. if its free, keep it up and expand it when the next Wipeout Cup comes to pass! :g

Hello everyone. I didn’t wrote here nothing since I stoped playing WHD. But there is one case, that I need to close.
Couple weeks ago, I talked with my buddy Tiduch, about Cup and other stuff. That Cup was amazing thing, that for sure. Big truck of kudos for Kanar. Everything was fine until... Ok, I will not elaborate. Tiduch and two other players not received their awards. Why? Dunno. Tidi asked Kanar, and the answer was „no answer“. So he asked me, you know, I helped with tournament + I know The Big Boss. „No prob mate, I’ll take care of this ;)“. So I wrote message to Kanar, the answer came the next day - he kicked me from friend list! With no explanation, whithout even single word. Yes, I know, this is internet. I’m sure in 99% that I will not meet my psn/wipeout friends in real life, but hey, no one should treat people like that. Even in 0 1 world.
I didn’t want to write here about that, but I think that this is the only way to get explanations from Kanar. And the most funny thing is, that this in not about awards, I would like to know, why he did not find five minutes to reply. Anyone can ask him about this? I will be grateful ;)

As the first one knocked out of the cup, maybe I should just STFU, but was the Cup ever about prizes?

Could it be that Kanar was just overtaken by life in general, since the cup lasted for so much longer than anticipated? Sure, it would be nice to get a proper, signed explanation, but does it really matter now?

It may sound weird, but the cup was one of the last times I even touched my PS3. Life's just been too busy with many other things, and it's only the last week or so, I've started to contemplate what I want to play next. I can totally relate.

I haven't been visiting the zone as much as I used to, but I will look into the points brought up in the last few posts regarding prizes etc and WTF has happened to Kanar, VERY out of character.

Me thinks it wasn't KANAR in the household who read the PSN message sent to him, if you get my drift ;)
I wouldn't be surprised if has no knowledge of your messages existence, or the fact that you have been deleted from his friends list.

What was the prizes supposed to be anyway?
Maybe I, as one of the organizers of the cup, can make amends on Kanar's behalf.

You might end up better off to be honest. :)

EDIT:
Just went back to first page to see what was on offer.

OMG!

If you had ANY idea. of what it takes to even start a comp like this, let alone gather Reliable people to help run it.
Compound the problems of the last WOWC, 10X due to less pilots to help run it.

Another WO WC will not happen until another NEW Wipeout happens.

BUT, Keep your weekend of the end of September open.... around 26th - 28th .... BIG RACING!

Guys, I wonder if you can help me?

I am going to be making some compositions inside of Adobe After Effects and need the following 2 items:

The large banner logo for wipeoutzone.com - preferably around 900 pixels wide approx...

I also need the wipeout Arena log banner thing in approximately the same size...

I saw Hellfire_wz had put the WZ banner on some of his vids, and would love to use that one if possible.

The compositions are for the upcoming Avalon which blackwiggle is organising, and I am helping with in terms of making the teaser vids. Gonna try and make these AWESOME, better than the last, which was pretty good... I think I can do better.

Also, if anyone has any good quality video (HD like cyphers vids) with cool scenes in them, weps, BR's, shortcuts, tricks - link me them please so i can cut these up for the teaser(s) hopefully.

One last thing, I also need wipeout sound effects - if anyone has these, please link/send me these.

Sorry for the demanding post guys, just need your help :)

Cipher
30th June 2014, 04:21 PM
1) That video is ****ing awesome terra! XD
2) You're free to download/use any of my videos, I can send you over video footage material without music and in full quality, but i'd have to make a torrent in order to send that over, cuz i've got quite a bit :P
3) what kind of wipeout sound FX ^^
4) Wipeoutzone logo; http://novide.ufohunter.net/wipeoutzonelogo/wipeoutzone_claim.png

That HD video footage request applies also to me, feel free to send me stuff over, i'm working on sth :)

Aw bud :) thanks for the speedy response - and the help - and the kind words :)

I will download the logo thing now (it's a PNG file YEEESSSSSSSSS :D awesomes) and get to work on this right away... if anyone can send me the arena logo, it would be awesome also - but please seek permission from the arena guys, as they should know about this and approve of it.

In relation to your vids - would it be possible to cut them up into cool scenes? I require like maybe 4 cuts of each, weps action, BR action, shortcuts, tricks - whatever you think will look cool in the video. Gonna try and make it dynamic, fast moving, edgy, pacy, or something... I haven't quite worked it out yet, but once I have the footage, I think I will know what is possible.

Sound effects - namely weapons, BR's, curly saying "3,2,1,GOOOO" and other things that can help to make the video really have an impact on the viewer... make them itch to get online and play... that's my intention for the video.

Also, if you need any help with intro vids for your channel - I'd be honoured to help out :) you've put in a fair amount of time on bling brigade, helping others and organising as well as recording vids on that matrox thing... I believe you deserve some goodies for that, hence I will gladly make an intro thingy for you. Let me know if you need.

As a community, we are a pretty special bunch of people - we got some good talent here, skills, and passion for this - let's pool our resources together and prove that wipEout is alive and well... and kicking' it still !

Also, I recently invested in a ZOOM H2n audio recorder - its got a 5 microphone set up and is ideal for interviews, field recordings, and narration - so - i'm not promising anything, but - and this is a BIG but - I may narrate something into the video to give it that extra special touch.... that is, if I sound good on it - if not, forget it :D

Cipher
30th June 2014, 06:01 PM
Haaaaah!!! Mosj! Do it! do it! do it! xD
Can't wait to hear the mad man go crazy :D

And will see if i can't cut it up, might take a bit of time though, lots of stuff to go through :p
I don't have much weapon action though lol, we'll have to race eachother a bit for that xD

Will look into the sound FX too, my matrox can do that shiz ;)

As for the intro, no need mate, it's very kind of you, but it's fine as it is, i could make one myself with 3DS Max or unreal Cascade if i really wanted too, but bleeh, Youtube is a hobby for me, just enjoy putting up content for you folks to enjoy as well :)

And yes, we are one special bunch :P

Oh man, you are an ace :) thank you.

I don't need for you to edit the clips together, as I have something special in mind for their transitions in and out of each other. What I need is just the individual clips - if its easier for you, you can just link me the videos with time code so i can know exactly what part to cut up (I just hope the vids are not super large to download, coz I'm running short of disk space - yeah i know the feeling too bud).

Of course, it would save me much trouble if the clips were already cut and ready for insertion into AE.

I leave it in your hands :)

(btw, I didn't know you knew how to do 3DS Max / unreal cascade - you crazy dude :D and me lovvin'dat :D)

Hehe, studying Digital Arts & Entertainment taught me a lot of things, mostly studying it for 3D stuff so yeah Max is part of that, did Modding for a game called Borderlands for 2 years as well, which was based on the Unreal 3 Engine, so i pretty much know UDK inside out :) (Therefor thus also Cascade) Hope to be jumping into ZBrush next year ^^

As for the sound FX and and video footage, i'll get to that this evening ;)
Will let you know it's size when it's done, and yes, i know the feeling of full drives lol, 8TB all filled up :P

WOW, that's some serious 3D stuff, I'm not even gonna pretend to know what these other softwares are :D

RE: the sounds and other files - I really appreciate your help bud, a lot. Thank you once again :) and respect! :+

FYI got most of the sound FX recorded, just need to split everything up, unless it's fine like that and you'll search through it yourself, but let's take this to PM, shouldn't be filling up this thread with all of this :P
And hehe, Visual studio C++, C+, Unity, Apophisys, PS, Illustrator, MonoDevelop, final cut, wavepad, AppleScript, Automator and a whole bunch of other minor stuff, nothing too special ^^

No it's surprisingly still open... So I guess it is time to post... Before it's too late. Well it's already "a bit" too late, as it's been more than 3 years now. So I don't even know where to begin after all this time. So much to tell, but for sure my first words will be; Skrotos, Texasalex, Tiduch, bazzman, Triboy, and everyone I offended...
I'm deeply sorry. For not delivering until the end. For loosing my faith into Wipeout all because a pity thing like this Speed Glitch. By that time I was living into 2 dimensions, real life and a virtual one completely dedicated to this universe. I struggled a lot with the wife, the job and well... uhm... the drugs (nothing really serious though, I mean the green, but enough to drive you a bit crazy). Sometimes it was like a daydream as I was spending litteraly all my free time playing Wipeout HD. Mostly racing endless runs in SL, kinda transcendence with good music. My pit stops where for WZ, reading your posts, contributing a bit, sharing with you all mostly. Feeling alive I would dare to say, because I've never felt again this state of mind after this long journey with you. Could have been considered as a sickness due to the time I spent in this virtual dimension but that was in the same time the world I belong. I've met in person a few of you, and I shared a lot with a lot of you. Enough to know I've found my tribe, people who shared the same vision of life, some sort of alien tribe I should say eh eh.

It's been 3 years now but it's still alive in me, I still feel this in my blood. I will never forget this experience. How could I?

Ruined by a stupid glitch as I said. Some people said this stuff wasn't a big deal after all, but for people like me it was. It almost instantly broke all my dreams. Must explain a bit more there.

With first Pure, then Pulse and finally HD, Devs and test pilots didn't notice something both obvious and almost invisible, known as the speedglitch. At some point some people found it but never reported it officially, and surely not to the devs. Untill on my birthday date lol, august 29th, 2011.

Quite a lot of time uh. Why this stuff was a game breaker at least for me and for a lot of SL/TT purists you should ask. Well basically, a stupid combination of left steering+right airbrake, or the opposite, gave you instantly a tiny boost speed. Not a lot more for sure, but enough to improve a lot your times in the end. You could do that in the air too, which means you could accelerate during all your time in the air. When I finally had a clue of how this glitch worked thanks to a few pm of some WZ friends in august 2011, I tried it in my Speed laps. And that was a real slaughter. Sure the thing was obvious in lower classes, but I can assure you I destroyed almost all my phantom PB in SL, and was about to destroy a lot of the SL WR too, I'm not bragging out at all, it's just I dedicated by that time my entire life to WipeoutHD with more than 1000 hours (probably more, just can't remember) and mostly Speed lapping. First I went mad, thought about uploading my times. Then I spoke with Pirahpac and few other friends, and realized that was silly. Then a few days after, I deleted Wipeout HD.

Be assured I'm not blaming AT ALL anyone who's still playing a previous version of wipeout HD. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone, just stating some facts, as a lot of you already did. It's just about the fact we finally got two different games here.

Keep in mind -probably- 99% of the pilots weren't aware of this glitch, but sadly 100% of them were doing it inadvertently, not consistently but at some points during their run. On a hard turn, after a double dash, when anticipating the next turn... We all wondered why, sometimes, when looking at our own ghosts, we were a bit faster apparently for no reason at some point of a lap. So this stuff was always here since the begining. As a backdoor, some sort of zero day exploit. So yes, this search for the best times ever was unfair right from the start. This statement instantly destroyed all my love for this game. Again, some people will think it's a bit stupid to "repudiate" something you loved that much just for that.

But I was a competitor, a purist, and it just took a second for my world to come crumbling down.

I really feel ashamed for the people I let down after this episode. i totally disapeared, sold my ps3 and gave my psvita a few times after I realized 2048 was not at all my taste (30fps allergic).

i felt a deep disgust for everything wipeout related, and yes I must admit the zone and you people I considered as my friends were collateral victims of my nervous breakdown. Not to mention the fact I had, one time or another, to go back to my real life. Was way too more implicated to this wipeout universe, the wife and my relatives were starting to think I lost my mind. Well kinda...

So here we are now. August 2015. Still feeling nostalgic of these times. Probably a Formula Fusion after effect, as I instantly bought the early access on steam and have big hopes on this one...

And here I am, finally... Again.

I'm not trying to find some excuses for my behaviour here, I haven't any, just tried to explain. So again, all my apologies to the people I let down. Looking forward to read you there. Well not there particularly, as this thread should be definitely closed after all this time.

Love you all, 'til the end of times, as sincerely, I lived some of the most intense moments of my existence here.

In the wipeout universe. On the tracks, in the chatroom...

@ avalon.

Sorry for my bad english btw, I'm a bit rusty after all this time.

I know about this glitch from a friend, but i never stood still by the fact you could be doing it accidentally, and now, it kind of makes sense, sideshifting one way, and slighty counteracting the sideshift so you don't shift off course, is this why pre patch was faster? as nearly every good pilot sideshifts when coming out of a corner :/

You kind of enlightened me now lol
I used to fly post patch competing with a lot of newer gen pilots, but some of them went pre patch because it's faster, not really knowing why, so had to go there too if i wanted to keep battling together (I had a blast regardless though :p), and indeed it was & still is faster pre-patch. The leaderboards should've been purged when the fixed handling came about, maybe that's also why a lot of people left, they no longer could beat their own times, let alone others'

I never knew you, nor the others, wish i was around abck then, would've loved to play with you all, but i think it's all okay, maybe it was a bit of a good thing as it allowed you to re-unite with your family ;) I'm sure the others would forgive you, maybe they'll even stop by to say so :)

If you're still feeling nostalgic about everything, and would want to have another couple races fro the memory, Stinkleroy, Anerare, Ericd7m & I have been keeping little friday evening Avalon sessions where everyone just races for fun and has a great time (hopefully!! :s ), anyone's welcome if you feel like it ;)

OH ****.....I saw that somebody had posted in this thread after 3 years, I thought, OH NO ! Not again!

Good to see you back again Kanar :nod.....CAT's running mini Avalons on Fridays night's Euro time :rock

I posted at ARENA about Formula Fusion, it seemed to wake up the forum momentarily.....depends if you are up to it....I lived through your explanation above, so I understand if you are hesitant .....we need to get the OLD crowd together again via the PS4, KAORI, MIKADO, EXPAT, ASSA, LEUNG, PIRA, G-Super the whole ARENA gang for FF....see what happens, no pressure

Hi, long time, I read your post kanar, interesting information ... actually I've been working on a 3d racing game now and I have a strong intuition that this is not a mere "glitch" but simply a consequence of not using proper "anti-grav" :p physics in this game, instead using approximations, so it's harder to fix than it seems.

Basically, they had been toying around with the parameters until they got the *right* balance, and if they change 1 parameter, then suddenly other problems will appear ... so they probably added a post-processing function that "hard limits" the speed, something like that, but it's ugly code ... well the main problem is that it kinda destroyed the purpose of the leaderboards now, such a shame :-/ I should have added another filter "game version" in the rankings)

Honestly, coming from someone who didn't have a PS3 until November of 2012 or so, it sucks even worse to know you will never beat anyone's records. Even on WipeoutRankings.com. I didn't know about the speed glitch because I never played prepatch. I still threaten to go back and revert the version, but I'm glad I haven't now. I just wish there was a way to classify records as either pre or post. Times are still significant in post patch to some.
