Awesome info - thanks for clarifying. I'm playing the retail copy without dedicated internet connection so I'm not sure if it tells you to patch. Do you know if it what version the disc is? Maybe moving from zone 63->75 will be a little easier than I had hoped.

So far I've noticed:
Speed Pads = 100pts
Barrel Rolls = 1000pts
Perfect Zones = 1000pts
Perfect Laps = 2000pts

Perfect Zones heal your ship ?10%?, but nothing else does.
Barrel Rolls take the standard 15% off meaning you can only average one attempted BR every 15 seconds (if you want to think of it like that).
But I can't put my finger on how many points you get at every moment of play. It doesn't seem to increase with speed. I could figure it out manually if I count BRs I suppose... assuming it's constant. Any ideas?

Does this still happen if you nose down the whole fall? Or if you miss the last speed boost on the high road? I mean it will always happen at high enough speeds (and you'll be forced to fall onto low road), but if it's just starting to happen at the zones you're talking about then maybe nosing down would prevent it.

Barrel roll is 1200 pts definitely, look closely lol, its easier to see if u record it then watch it back.

The change is quite dramatic in my opinion, certainly at higher zones. I've side-by-side tested pre (unbroken) and post 2.51 and not sure which I prefer. Zone feels much more involving pre 2.51, and much prefer the way the ship feels, but on the other hand, with 2.51 you can go around 20-40 zones higher (varies from track to track obviously), so you get to feel higher speeds around the tracks, zone mode lasts longer, all good stuff. Bah I don't know. At least it's still playable unlike the rest of the game -_-

Can you still redownload the old pre-airbrake patch version? I have yet to patch my Wipeout HD.

The only other version you can get is if you do a fresh download (I think). If I were you I wouldn't patch it if you enjoy any game modes other than Zone.

HP does not heal 10% but just heals 10hp out of max 100. because 10% of 1 hp would mean you get 0.1hp back after a perfect zone and you dont get 0.1hp back but 10 every time. and br 1200 point whahaha I always tought they were just 1000 but after a quike chek your right 1200 or 1250 cool now i know i need to do more brls. uploading a old wipeout vid now where i play v-k cockpit with the controler in screen and getting to zone 78. upload so damm slow :P

Lol. it heals your shield 10% just like barrel rolls take off 15% or absorbing autopilot heals 20%. That is to say it heals a % of your max health. Obviously it wouldn't heal based on current values. Ships have different shield strengths, but all have a max shield of '100' and get healed by the same 'number' on the HUD, the only way that works is if the numbers shown are percentages. There may be only one zone ship, but there's no reason to assume its heal works any other way.

And if it was based on current value rather than max value then we'd expect the heal to be 10% of the damage taken, not of the current shield. In other words if you were at 0% shield you'd heal 99/10 = 9.9% and if you were at 50% shield you'd heal 50/10 = 5%. Clearly this isn't the system WO:HD uses, but if you were going to misinterpret me then you could at least assume the system that makes a little more sense ;)

Nice run btw. VK Zone destroys me... Can't deal with the narrowness at high speeds so it always impresses to see a +70 run.

Nice video. I am surprised by the color scheme of Supersonic. It looks like Mach 1. Anyway, I am no good at Vineta K in zone mode. Like the other poster said, it's too narrow for me once I get to maybe Zen. Also, how do you survive playing with the internal cam view? I can't tell if I'm going to clip a wall when I use that camera view! Nice work!

Then I tried the updated version... zone 88 the very first try (Syncopia for both of these mind you). I agree though Yeldar, Zone feels a lot worse now. I kind of wish I had just started with a patched version, playing feels very messed up now.

In the craft is harder to fly. i have to agrea. while i'm not sure if it is hader at the 75+ speeds on this track.
I forced myself to play cockpit just because it looks cooler and faster. i did not mind that i was worse in timetriles like that.
and well I'm used to the cockpit collision now. 5000+ laps on a track and you start to learn how it goes. but i'm realy slow in learning. I played trough sp 2 times once noob ai second on elit to get plat. other then that i mostly play this track because for me it got perfect flow. not to hard, not to easy and corners are posible on highs speed.

I fancied doing some Zone this evening, and I checked the rankings site to see what I hadn't done in a while. I was shocked to see that I've only set one PB in 7 months, and I've got tracks that I haven't touched in over a year and a half. So I've resolved to do something about this. I'm setting myself the target of beating every one of my scores before Christmas. Starting with the oldest record (Corridon 12) tonight.

This will of course mean I'll be online less for the next few weeks, but I'll still have the odd session, plus any special events. Anyway, thought I'd let you all know about my mission, wish me luck :)

EDIT ... oh, and if anybody cares to join me in my mission, you'd be more than welcome. We could even have a little competition on particular tracks, who knows?

One thing I love about Zone is how you can easily track your progress. I remember the first time I made it to Super Zen and Subsonic. Then the first time I made it to Mach 1. Then the first time I reached Supersonic. Once I reached Supersonic, I considered Super Zen to be the first speed class where I'd probably sustain my first bit of damage. Now I can often make it to Mach 1 without taking any damage. And then what used to be an amazing achievement sometime in the past eventually became par for the course. And then that achievement suddenly becomes a disappointment later on. For example, I used to be excited when I reached Zone 80. Now, the only time I'll die at Zone 80 is if my son grabs the joystick while I'm playing. Then a good game was Zone 90-95ish, with a few 80s stuck in there. Then I hit Zone 100 for the first time and anything under Zone 90 was a disappointment. Then I hit Zone 110, so clearing Zone 100 was considered par for the course.

Now a good game for me is Zone 115. I've passed Zone 115 a few times, and Zone 120 once. But if I don't even make it to Zone 110, the game is considered a disappointment. Now my number of perfect zones is higher than the total number of zones I'd clear in the past in a "good game." My usual game now on Syncopia is about 115/85 and 330,000 points or so. There was a time when Zone 85 would be considered a high game, but not anymore!

I've also found myself really liking some of the anti-Zone tracks, such as Modesto Heights reverse and Sebenco Climb reverse. Sure, it's doomsday once I reach Zone 35 or so, but it's a lot of fun and I'm finding that these tracks really force me to become a better pilot with more perfect laps. I still can't race Ubermall (forward or backwards) to save my life though.

The hardest tracks are my favourites for Zone for two reasons - 1) you get more of a sensation of speed and urgency and 2) you won't spend 15 minutes doing it, then make a few silly mistakes and ruin your score. I'm currently doing Sol 2 but it's so frustrating, it's the dodgy BR off the lip for the first few laps. Restart, restart, restart.

i'm racing cockpit view zonemode, and i noticed that most top players use the other views, so I was wondering what is the highest zone any one ever did in a cockpit view, and then i mean the entire race!
I managed to get to zone 90 on V-K and aiming for 100! if some got some vids of 90+ cockpit that would be cool!

haha zzonkmiles i have the same thing, funny to read you story, my records are not as high as yours but the way to it seems very simular, however 9/10 times i dont want to race serieus for the first 45 zones or so, while i'm racing i'm watching a animee or brouwsing on my second monitor... after 45 i need to use my focuse or ill die. while at the begining of wipeout hd zone lvl 45 was inposible.

I play more for getting high zone numbers then high scores

Internal is much more fun. My highest internal is 149. Not really worth attention because:
1. Syncopia --> Noob
2. I fail at perfect zone with internal
3. I have not tried internal zone with patch 2.51, which of course would make a much higher zone

Still, way more fun :g

syncopia is a easyer track i have to agrea but my record there is way lower because i never play that onepretty mutch only v-k because i like the flow of the track not to wide not to narrow and only one anoying roof that i keep bumping into XD
I dont know about patch differences, so maby my records suck because there set with 2.5 stuff ah well as long as i have alot of fun.

I have to agee internal is mutch more fun because it feels so mutch better when you master it! external was alot easyer for me to beat zico with (all the wipeouts i played external and hd made me go cockpit because of the feeling thats so damm good in there)

You got to Zone 90 at Vineta K?!? With internal view?!? I'm not sure but I think that counts as having super powers, you might want to consider fighting crime or something.

haha nope its just practise makes perfect.
so need more practise to get to my aimed 100, but thats a long road for a 130 sec of extra travel time. but i'm getting used to the super sonic colors now.
they dont freak me out if i enter it anymore like: OMG i managed to get ss!! whooh. its more like ZixXer keep your cool you have a long way to go still KEEP YOU COOL DAMIT AAH DEAD!

but if i remember corect you had some very awsome records as well. and i'm only good in that track (i did get platium thropy so i'm not that bad) but super powers... no
