Weather here? Complete and total :turd - I mean, it's been raining since the beginning of this month - it's "supposed" to be summer.

What gives?

Currently - rain and 64F - again.

There is this huge low pressure, been here for several days now - and it's spinning - I'm at the center of rotation. :|

NH is New Hamshure right?

Just trying to think where that is located Geologically. You must be near Darkdrium777 country that far north.

New Hampshire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Hampshire) is in New England, so it is quite far north in the US and just south of Quebec.

Here in the north west of England the weather can't make its mind up. We've had torrential rain last week, a cold weekend and now this week is projected to be a heat wave with temperatures to be 30°C+. Very crazy indeed :|.

Same here too, i love this weather too, its the only 3months of the year here where the weather is pleasant, and you can actually sleep properly at night. I hope summer never returns here. Hate the 35+ heat.

Ive heard its pretty foul up there in the other hemisphere. Alot of you UK and French guys are hating it big time. I completely sympathise with your situation, nasty heat.

Kigo - you'll bee pleased to know that traditional English weather has returned. By traditional I mean raining 1 minute, sunny the next and a more bearable 20 degrees.

I like hot weather on hols but its not the same when its at home and you have to go about your daily business. We just aren't cut out for hot weather in this country.

Liked the comment on top gear last night about how the Govt made it a level 3 heatwave when in the past it would just be called a hot summers day. So true.

KIGO1987
6th July 2009, 11:21 AM
Yeah i know, when the heat interferes with your daily business silverfox.

My first car had NO AC. i had to drive around in a car 45+ for months on end for 4years straight, before ive bought this Triakis that i have now, nice Antarctic AC its has:g,

Whats a Level 3 heat wave btw? is that 30+ plus or something.

silverfoxy
6th July 2009, 11:24 AM
I haven't a clue mate. Its just some health and safety BS this Govt feel they need to do. Like when it snows, they shut every school for miles (and sometimes when its just been predicted to snow as happened round here earlier this year. Didn't snow yet all the kiddywinks still had the day off anyway !!) when I was a lad we used to trek through 6 feet of the stuff to get to school ;)

You can guarantee rain this week anyway as the Ashes start. Our only hope !!!

Yes very very flat this place is compared to the island state and to the eastern states. Crazy last night with the rain pissing down at that velocity, visibility 5meters at best a some moment, and clogged drain pipes making some of those puddles on the road nasty and dangerous to drive through. Well I went to bed while on earth last night and I woke up on Mars.

Blackwiggle - those pictures look insane - any way to direct me to a higher res version? By the way - you're welcome. We in the Northern Hemisphere decided to give you more sun starting today, and will hold onto the night while you're enjoying your light - just bear in mind that it's only temporary custody for 6 months and we will want it back in 179 days or so.

We try to wait until WINTER WINTER before we turn our heat back on. (trying to save $ and energy) Our thermostat is usually set to 45F (or complete rock botton on my thermostat) during the cold months. Right now, the furnace is unplugged, and the pilot has been extinguished since April.

A minor event like this happened in Perth back in 2006, ive got some photos of it. Sky is red, but it was very humid on that day too, there is this irry glow on the side of the buildings everywhere. This phenomenon is caused by all of the top soil from the desert getting blowed out to the coast lines in high winds, which goes for hundreds if not thousands of kilometers away. Its a very fine red soil, and it gets everywhere, in your car, in the house, and its not good if you are a asthmatic. Its kinda the same when there are backburns in the bush before fire season in summer when there is an easterly wind. Fine layer of crap is everywhere and visibility is low, but its not red like these dust storms.

23rd September 2009, 08:48 PM

Being in the tropics,it is slightly nice as you will get to drink the supposed 8 glasses of water a day due to hot weather. We do have heatwaves though. Lance, you really like humid summers? I remember one of my teachers saying that "while it is fun for you(Singaporeans),it is a month or two of suffering for them(Countries in the northern temperate regions)" Say,where in Florida do you live ? I prefer it to hot weather. An Australian girl in my office was saying the other day how she didn't mind the cold too much, as you can go outside in the cold and still keep warm by wrapping up, but you can't go outside in the heat and stay cool when it's just too hot. They're my thoughts too, as I'm really not a fan of hot weather. Although I would prefer it if we actually had a summer. The last couple of years we've had about a week or two of nice weather, and this year I wasn't even in the country for those, so I completely missed out. Luckily it's not actually that cold in the UK, or all that hot in summer. After reading Medusa's earlier post, I haven't complained about the cold since. What I dislike more is actually the darkness. I wake up and it's dark. I get on the train and it's light but still grey and dull. Then I come home again in the dark. Then on the weekends I like to stay up late and sleep in, so I barely get any sunlight. (Really not helping myself on that one).

It does annoy me how public transport sucks so badly in extreme conditions. I was amazed to find my train arrive on time on Friday morning. But then on the way home, they were all cancelled due to a train failure, which was blocking the route (why is there no diversion they can take :?), probably because the trains just give up and die in the cold. :-

Uggg...its cold(er) out here. in the mid to high 20's (Farenheit) and we got about 2 feet of snow between last night and now. I do like the snow far more than the hot weather.

Is it even cold though? I wasn't cold at all. Even after helping an old couple get their car up the driveway after it got stuck, I wasn't cold (just very wet). If it's snowing but there's no wind then I don't find it cold.

I'm also extremely happy that I got home with relative ease. Went to my station and the train was delayed by 20 minutes. Tried a different route and the train was only delayed by 2 minutes. But then a report came in that it had broken down. So I got the tube all the way back to the other station on the other line and the train actually arrived, and only 20 minutes late, as predicted (was amazed). It was only calling at 3 stations though, instead of about 12 (no idea why). Was one of those stops mine? Hell yeah it was. :g I feel a little bad for the hundreds of people who had to get off, but I wouldn't have got on it otherwise and after helping that old couple out, it was clearly meant to be. Sure am glad I thought ahead and wore my boots to work.

No-one should bother with cars or buses round my was though, they roads are shockingly bad. In fact, anyone that even tries to go out tonight is a bit silly, unless walking and wearing suitable boots. Ugg boots don't count, and neither do heels, despite what many of the young ladies I saw on the way home seemed to think.

Is this the law in Denmark? I think I heard it is law in some countries. I wish it were in England. I tried to walk to the shops today, but the pavements are completely iced over and impossible to walk on properly. I decided to not even try. People are walking along the road-side of the parked cars on main roads, because the icy pavements are more dangerous than the cars speeding towards them in the dark.

One good thing about cold weather - the ice-cream doesn't melt.:+ (Yes that's right, I eat ice-cream in winter)

mic-dk

Well, it differs slightly from city to city, but you are required to keep your sidewalk clean of snow, and make sure there's safe access for mail- and garbage services. Basically it means keeping it clear from 0700->2200. In theory you could even get a fine for not doing it, but I have never heard of anyone actually getting one.

More likely you get sued if the postman slips and falls.

Well it has snowed again, which means my trains to work later this morning will be buggered. In fact, they're already close to it. The service I usually use will only be running 2 trains per hour, which means my chances of getting on one will be slim, as the same amount of people that usually manage to fill up about 7 trains per hour will probably all be trying to cram onto those 2. I think there's a high probability of trains failing at one per hour as well, which could lead to only one per hour, or perhaps no trains at all. I'll have to hope that the other route is running reasonably well. Fingers crossed.

Well, let me tell you, mother nature literally shat all over Perth last night. We copped the worst storm probably ever recorded. Hail stones as big as tennis balls, destroying cars about 40-60mm of rain in a few hours, strong wind gusts, really crazy stuff. First time I've also heard of landslides occurring in Perth, as well, damaging apartment blocks and taking out a favourite Perth landmark as well. Damage bill is expected to top over 100 million aussie dollars.

I had my fair share of trouble, too. Walked into our back room to find several leaks in the roof. Frantically placed buckets under them, brushed water out into the backyard with a bloody broom (There's a drain just outside, lucky it was there) for about 30 minutes. Luckily, no water got inside the house and nothing got damaged. Got off pretty lightly, though, considering some of the stories they played on the news...

Hell no. You poms can have some of our heat for much longer. Last summer was hell on Earth. 45C+ temps for days on end, commuting, sleeping, working in the heat drains your body and makes you an extremely cranky person, especially last summer.

Im enjoying these cooler days atm, getting heaps of stuff done.

Really warm over here in the midlands right now. There's also a nice breeze occasionally, so having the windows wide open is really refreshing.

Already spent hours lounging in the garden. Was out there since 9am... live in a an area with only dead-end residential streets so there's not a single sound of traffic... ahhh the peacefulness.

I know a guy from Greece who says that the temperature there has to be 10 degrees higher than here (London) to reach an equivalent level of discomfort in the heat. I sit next to a guy from Dubai who says pretty much the same thing, i.e. he hates even a bit of heat here but can deal with high temps in Dubai easily. I was the same when I went to Qatar. At 40 C I was all good, but at around 30 C here I find it too much and probably will just get a headache if I stay out in the sun. I think it's humidity and pollution that just make heat feel horrible in London.

Oh man, that reminds me how we had old friends visiting from germany once. We had decided to go down to London and show them our great capital... on the hottest day of the year that year. Argh, it was terrible.

Anyway, I just hope the constant breezes during the day don't stop or else it might not be that nice anymore. It also became quite stormy this night... pleasantly cool though.

First of all, let me tell you Manitoba is supposed to have HOT summers. Yeah, we freeze our arses off all winter in exchange for 30-35 degree Celsius summers.
I'm freezing to death here and it's JUNE! Yesterday it was about 13 degrees Celsius, and it's been raining every day for about two weeks straight. No, no problems with the earth's climate, not at all...:cold:blarg

Manitoba = Denmark at the moment. It's been pi... pouring down for a week now and I haven't seen a piece of blue sky for days. 15 degrees C is not how it is supposed to be! And my lawn is growing beyond my control!

I really shouldn't complain though. Central Europe has been flooded for the last month, so I'll just sit back and hope the drains can handle it...

Lucky me are relocating for Spain in a week, for a week. At least I'll see the sun then and the only umbrellas in sight, will be in my drinks :p

The weather has been strange here too. Many days the past week it has been grey and damp and horrible, only to brighten up in the evenings. I've walked home from the station almost every day for the past two weeks, even though it poured on some of those days, it was still sunny, or at least pleasant enough, for a nice walk. For example, today was just miserable and not warm at all, until on the train home the sun gradually appeared, and by the time I got back it was absolutely perfect. It's always pretty unpredictable here, but the constant changing from warm to cold and damp really throws me off.

Yesterday morning was bloody freezing here... I even turned on the heating for one hour. Then in the afternoon I was lounging in the sun in the garden, enjoying a large glass of Iron Brew while reading a book. 8)

It keeps alternating here between freezing cold and rain, and boiling heat and sunshine. No wonder that it was thunder storming all day a few days ago.

Been quite a few sub 0°C nights here in Perth in recent days. Coldest and Driest winter on record. Last night going back to my car after the Holland vs. Brazil game saw frost on my car for the first time in my entire life. Never have experienced this before. Could of scraped it off the roof and the rear windshield if i had a spatula.

Would be something like 99% humidity over there in Singapore when there is cloud cover, i wouldnt have a hope in hell sleeping in that weather. No AC in that weather would mean instant death. Very tropical climate up that way.

Well ive been happy for the cloud coverage at night also here, means the temperature range over night and day is smaller, which is good. No bloody frost on the car now. Been a few crazy storms here past few days, some tossers apartment over in Scabs had his roof blown off. Wasnt an Aussie was some pom resident, quite funny listening to his story. Not too far from my house too, all the bins got blown down the street, good thing i didnt take out the bin last night, buggered if im walking down the road to find where my green bin flew off too.

Like ive said before, i honestly preffer this weather over the summer heat and flies, sleeping in this weather is so much better :)

I think it is subjective, and whether or not we are used to the weather at home.
I do not experience flies. Plus,I use an electric fan every night when I sleep. I wonder if any of you have heard of a bolster(which you should have)which you "hug" when you sleep. I use that when it is not so cold.

True there, everyone has a different body thermostat. Not all Aussies love the extreme heat of summer, im one of them. I live in a bit of a dip so i dont get much of a good seabreeze at all, very unbearable during summer time.

There are alot of flies here, they just breed like mad in the weather here, some summers its unbearble, they get into your eyes and up your nose and everything. Bloody horrible. Guess thats why we wear these hats over here
http://www.partypants.co.uk/hats/aussie-cork-australian-hat.jpg

Fans are good at one thing, blowing luke warm air around them, some places you just need a AirConditioner unit, didnt have an airconditioner in this house until 1999, before then i had to use a fan, i have no idea how i survived back in those years. Refrigerated airconditions are the must here over the stupid Evaporation units which can cause your house to burndown if there are hot ambers flying in the air after a bushfire.

I didnt know what you where talking about when you mentioned "bolster". But i googled it. and remember those cushion things. i remember those things back in the 90s i dont use one, did have a blue one back in the good days. There was one in the old family Ford Fairlane back in the day. But sleeping at night. A pillow does just as good to hug when your asleep. i sleep one between my legs, call me odd, just a habit i have here.

Thinking abut sleeping, who perspires while sleeping?
I suppose that most of you dislike perspiring, some most of you live in temperate climates and do not experience extremes(Like in Singapore, where the summer(all year round)is quite extreme)
(off-topic)KIGO1987,I sometimes take my younger bro's bolster(strangely,it is quite hard, unlike mine, which is soft) and I "sandwich" myself between the two bolsters(soft one in front, hard one behind.Gives me the feeling that I am a dragon(the tail part, especially)) :paperbag (Should make a thread about some of the wierd sleeping habits some of us may have...)

you mean sweat like crazy?

Well that happens alot during summer time with me, i wake up in a pool of sweat after 2hours of sleep during the really hot days and muggy ones, then i just cannot get back to sleep, so i boot up the PS3, sign in on the PSN talk to a few people until im dozy enough to nod back to sleep again. Warm humid days its much worse than hot dry days i find. Sometime when its really bad i wake sometimes up with a massive headache and nose bleeds.

i'm also worried because 2 days ago my laptop overheated while playing call of duty 4 and switched off, scared me to death, i thought it broke...
luckily it survived.
also last night my ps3's slim fan was working on full rpm, never heard it so loud before...let's hope it will last!
i've changed 5 ps2 6 years due to overheating...all just when the 1 year guarantee expired...

KIGO1987

There are these sprays that you can use on your skin to repel mosquitoes, but they stink and become ineffective after a short period of time, spraying the door frame and window frame with insect spray sometimes does the trick, it prevents the bloody bastards coming into the room in the first place.

My laptop did that last year during summer it was hot as anything thing it made this phew noise, and it shut down, i thought i killed it too, i turned it back on in 5minutes after that and it worked again. I need to disassemble this laptop before this summer here as the stupid cloth cover that goes over the motherboard has found its way in covering itself over most of the bottom air vent and fan. So i need to fix it since i feel it overheating right now and its the middle of winter here. Not too many electronics are built to survive the heat at all. You look at the operating temperatures of an ipod, it says nothing over 35C, there are like over 100days a year here when the temperature is over that level.

I hope the PS3 slims are good at surviving the summer heat, because i might be buying one in the coming months.
