Haven't played in a while, and much to my dismay, when I fired up a single player race, I got an obnoxious ad from State Farm. I thought they took this out months ago...

    Edit: I'm in the USA

Yes, i also had this yesterday but there was no advert. it was just the box were the advert plays. i guess i was lucky lol.
Advertising is taking over the world. i dont believe advertising actually works unless its something amazing that you've never heard about...
i have never left the house halfway through a program to go buy a snickers or a tin of lynx.
when i see an advert a few times it starts to annoy me and then i refuse to buy that product..
Instead of paying millions for advertising drop your prices and then watch the cash flow in.

Haha, yeah, that´s what I always think. In my opinion, 95% of all adverts are just stupid. No ideas behind it, no style, no humor. But what really drives me nuts are adverts like these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-V-6fhZfrQ
Though it is German, you can easily see why I ..ha..dislike this.

And luckily, here I haven´t noticed any new ads. I hope it stays this way.

    Question:

Can I play the game offline and not see the ads (not connected to the internet at all) while still saving my race times and scores? Will the scores update online next time I go online?

    Thanks -

Yep, they will. But they will appear as "PLAYER" in the scoreboards instead of your name... that will fix itself too though if you go online. No problem.

The ads do appear when offline if you've already downloaded them (I think).

Only a complete re-intall of the game can remove the ads if you've already downloaded them accidentally! From then on you must be careful to sign out of PSN before loading the game... once the game has loaded you can sign in without fear.

    Thanks for the response.

I just finished downloading the demo and the full game unlock, and now I'm waiting for the Fury add-on to download.

After everything gets installed and set-up, when should I update to 2.20? After the patch installs, is it best to just yank the ethernet cord out of the back to ensure I'm not signed in?

Edit: Is it safe to sign in once you are at the Main Menu?

Yes, it's safe to login anywhere on the menu after the game has finished all its loadings+animations etc.

About installing the patch... I think you return to the PS3 XMB menu after installing the patch and you don't actually need to be signed in to download it. You should be fine. My PS3 is online 24/7 with a wireless connection... you just need to avoid being signed in to PSN.

How else can they get continuous revenues from this game to keep the servers running if not by advertising? Personally I'd like to see more advertising and have better game support (eradication of glitches/monitoring of leaderboards etc.)

It’s not the advertising that bothers me – It’s the way they’re doing it.

Find some decent sponsors that – ideally – fit to the overall game and show them on billboards on the track. No problem with that (as long as there are no whole tracks covered in Pepsi-Ads – WOPure I’m looking at you). I’m pretty sure people get excited about seeing Red Bull back in the game

Or at least pull down the volume for that loading-screen-Ads

Yeah they should keep the ads limited to stuff like affordable rocket fuels, friendly home robots, quantum processors, teleportation pads etc...
