You're right, we shouldn't turn this into a browser-epeen contest, but just to defend Connavar's approach to making the ranking site: if you've done web design and web programming in the past 5 years, you'd understand our frustration towards IE. The amount of lines of code you needed to add to make your site appear using IE just like it does on browsers with better (X)HTML 1.1 and CSS 2.0 compliance is just ridiculous.

Connavar's doing this project in his spare time, so any additional time he has to spend on workarounds for non-compliant browsers means adding new stuff or fixing existing features takes a hell of a lot more time before it gets to us (not to mention the frustration testing all of this on every non-compliant browser means).

That being said, IE 8.0 is finally a step in the right direction, when it comes to W3C standards compliance.

    I haven't noticed any aggressivity!?
I just countered you when you talked about "opinion", by clearly showing it's
    more than just an opinion.

Now I don't care about what browser you use, you're free to do so, the one
thing I do care is, when people experience problems on my site, it's 90% of the
time IE users, like you, and it's rather annoying to have spent time to make a
website that fully works on all the browsers with intended looks etc, only to
see it behave in a completely different manner on IE, and then fixing bugs for IE
involves a multitude of TRICKS, make a longer and worse code even, it's
    incredible...

It actually takes me more time to make the site work correctly with IE, than
adding many more useful features to it... at some time I'll just give up fixing
    those!

EDIT: thanks sny, you explained it perfectly!

Good news for the PLAYSTATION 3 browser, I checked its capabilities on this
page: http://design215.com/browser2.php, and apparently it can do a lot of
things! Just my javascript library doesn't seem to be working, but I could make
a more simple version for the PS3 only I guess...

It's weird, the problem seems to be only on Venom class (Flash, Rapier and Phantom are OK, at least for the multiplayer mode). Hope SL will clean the leaderboards asap.

Good that it's only Venom, they've polluted all the rankings, but at least
it's rather easy to filter them based on the speed lap ...
    Wow ProblemSolver got a #2 on multiplayer/metropia/venom:
    1.20.54 / 19.64
    (speed lap record is 28.34)

ProblemSolver plays something with the name not containing the word "Zone?"
    I'm confused.

I'm still trying to understand how this ranking system works...

Not trying to demean Connavar's great efforts here but... surely if SL just made the Records menu in the game available on a website, and adjusted their ranking system to account for all records rather than just online play time, this site wouldn't be necessary?

I mean... this site relies on people's honesty, as well as their ability to accurately (and regularly) input data. If SL just dumped all of the Records on a website, that updated automatically like it does in the game, surely this would be a much fairer and more accurate system?

Or am I missing something here...

The benefits you get from using this site (for me at least) are:

a.) glitched times and scores are deleted if they are obviously impossible (lap times of 14.xx on venom class, or race times of under a minute).

b.) the wonderful Matrix feature lets you know in a plain, unmistakable way which tracks I need to improve my time on. Just generate a matrix (for either score or rank) and check where you're ranked low or score few points on, and go for that track. It helped me improve a lot in a short amount of time.

c.) You can't use various sorts in the in-game records tables and only a limited amount of filters are available. It takes much longer to get the info for questions like "what rank am I on this and this track among only Goteki 45 pilots?" in-game.

I'm sure SL would also be perfectly capable of removing these glitched times if they decided to host a site like this.

And they'd be able to add all these wonderful filters etc.

My main concern with this site is the reliance on user input. It really makes no sense to me that the official, accurate times are viewable in the game, but we have to make do with an unofficial, (probably) inaccurate, and incomplete set of times outside of the game.

That's the thing that makes this place so great. Everyone here is honest and understands the importance of being honest (Except maybe one person, but that's old history and has been solved since, and wasn't related to Connavar's site.)

Well that's good to hear, but I'd still like to see something official, that doesn't require constant user updates. And considering that feature is essentially already in the game... surely it wouldn't take too much effort to put it on a site...

Has anyone from SL discussed this topic?

How much effort is too much? Too much by whose standards? And who's doing the work?

Well what I mean is... they already have the system up and running within the game. To transfer that data to a site wouldn't take very long. (Certainly a lot faster than manually inputting each time like Connavar's site!)

Ok so it would take a bit of time to get it up to the design quality of SL's products, but once it was up and running, it would require very little maintenance as it updates itself.

Except you would have the asshat Uberlander and his friends including "KingOfAllZones" at the top of the Anulpha Pass Zone leaderboard instead of ProblemSolver, Kingheim and all the others.

Is that really what you want?

Haha. I'd not looked at those before. Well it's quite clear from the number of Perfect Zones that all of those guys have found some kind of cheat. It's something that SL should patch out, and as I say, these kind of obvious errors can (and should) be easily removed from a ranking system.
