I'm afraid the Vista pads are not completely gone. In a 8 player race I crossed several lit up pads, heard the little bell but no pickup appeared.

I guess the servers were groaning at that moment since everybody was trying out the patch, so I'll withhold final judgement on that

At least the permanently off pads are gone!
