unethical, I let you choose your ship, then start the race. Would you rather that I wait for another 10 minutes for people to join? At that time, there are not many online, and sometimes have already waited 5-10- minutes. The problem is, I would like to wait for another person, but by the time someone else joins, everyone else leaves. I had to wait about 7 minutes for a race when I joined someone else, because they wouldn't start without 8 people. I would rather just race, even if it is just one person. I'm glad you didn't quit 3 laps into the race though, and raced a bunch. Typically, I count to ten in between races for the person to switch ships, or another person to join. If the person is choosing a ship, I will wait.
