Nice run, Snake! I posted this video in the Wipeout Videos thread, but it's probably better for me to post it here. Here's an Anulpha Pass reverse run I had yesterday. Even though I race Syncopia the most, I do race the other tracks sometimes too.

Another great Syncopia run. This time I set a new record for points. I had a 134/102 run for 425,000+ points. It actually could have been better, but I lost my concentration at maybe Zone 71 and I had a few bad laps in the 90s. I know I can break 450,000 and possibly Zone 140 very soon if I can just stay focused! Listen up, Doriett! If you're reading this, I'm coming for you! You are one rank higher than me according to the records on PSN. You better practice!
I actually got this run on video; it's uploading to YouTube now.![]()
Just did a Zone run on Anulpha Pass forward and set a new personnel best![]()
Zone reached: 87
Score: 245316
Perfect zones: 60
For me that was a very good run, especially with 60/87 zones were perfect plus the fact that Anulpha is considerably more difficult then Syncopia
-EDIT- Devastated now, was having an amazing run on Syncopia and well on my way to reach zone 140 at how well I was doing. But the inevitable happened of the glitch that I refer to as "Syncopia's killer" ended my run again133 zones
(The glitch is the outside wall of the left hand turn after the first corner, if you touch a specific point on the wall then it will violently push the ship away into the opposite wall where the same effect happens causing a almost impossible to recover from pinball effect causing massive damage and pretty much ending your session at Supersonic)

Is that a glitch? I know there's a point on the wall where you can somehow ramp high into the air and end up screwing yourself because you can't see where you are falling. Nice run regardless though. I've never hit Zone 140. If you're still online, I'll turn on my PS3...
I think its a glitch because the wall is completely flat and even touching it slightly in that certain spot (even a very gentle scrape) will cause it to throw the zone ship violently into the other wall, it doesn't seem like that should even happen so I refer to it as a glitch.
Also I've had the case where the ship becomes airborne and it only happens to me above 120 zones, I think what's going on is you know how the zone ship anchors itself to the track? Well the same point on the first left-hander the track dips and sometimes the ships own momentum from exiting the first corner can throw its nose up as it travels down the track inclination but still anchors itself to the track, but if the speed is great enough this momentum can throw the ship into the air resulting in that problem. Colliding with the inside wall can also cause this at high zones.
Saying that my definition of a game glitch is:
A problem/mistake in the game that causes it to behave in a manner that was not intended by the programmers.
The problem I mentioned is therefore a glitch in my eyes, but this problem is open to interpretation![]()
ZONE 140 CLEAR!!
I did it at long last I set a new zone record in this session, but since I was going for zones I didn't beat my score record but I don't care about that, I'm so happy
I'm gonna go lie down now as my hands are shaking because of the adrenaline![]()
Wow! 140 zones is incredible! Great job!
BTW, when I went to look for you online earlier, you were gone. No worries; we'll hook up for a zone battle next time then!
Also, you raise an interesting point. How DO you measure someone's zoning ability? Is it total zones? Total perfect zones? Or total points?
Which zone stats are better?
A 140/110 run for 450,000 points?
A 150/100 run for 400,000 points?
A 130/120 run for 425,000 points?
The online records value points more. But there is one guy with a 128/113 run ahead of another guy with 150 zones and fewer points. I don't know which run is more impressive. What do you all think?
Yeah sorry I had to go offline as I had some jobs to do so maybe another time
I personally prefer to measure my run by Zones cleared and perfect Zones more than points. This mainly boils down to a personnel fact that if I try to go for points I spend more time focusing on my shield gauge more than my racing line. So for me its a huge distraction so I don't barrel roll during my runs. I rely on speed pads, perfect Zones and prefect laps for my score.
I'll give you a example:
My current points record had barrel rolls in them but my Zone was only 127 due to the distraction I had
My new session set a new zone cleared record 140 had 0 barrel rolls allowing me to focus on the track and therefore survive longer
Personally I am more impressed by zone reached than score obtained, really going for a points run is how many barrel rolls can you do in the session which anyone can do. But reaching really high zones like I did shows the level of skill that particular pilot has to achieve that record for not everyone can reach higher than Zone 100+
Basically I'm more impressed with Zones cleared rather than points so that Zone 150 you mentioned would be my choice. If you ever watch me do a Zone run then there will be 0 barrel rolls in it. This is my opinion though so its open to debate.

Interesting perspective.
I think points are important because they show an element of risk taking that requires you to be good at scoring perfect zones in order to capitalize on them. Barrel rolls consume 15 ship energy, but you only get 10 ship energy back for a perfect zone. So I will execute as many barrel rolls as I practically can until around Zone 110 when I rarely attempt them. It sucks when my zone run ends prematurely because I barrel rolled too often. But at the same time, barrel rolls force you to get perfect zones so you can get that ship energy back. So I think of barrel rolls as the daredevil's approach to zoning.
As for regular zones, I will agree that this is probably seen as the most impressive. Saying you reached Zone 150 sounds more impressive than saying you scored 500,000 points. But I would rate a 140/115 run on Syncopia for 450,000 points above a 150/100 run on Syncopia for 400,000 points because the first run had a higher percentage of perfect zones. Remember that perfect zones and perfect laps also give you big points, not just barrel rolls. But I guess it's an individual preference thing. Getting multiple perfect zones in the 140s shows a higher level of mastery than merely "surviving" to 150--at least to me. But then again, I've never hit Zone 150 or even 140 before, so I guess I can't say for sure!![]()
Hey so I'm in Wales right now (Britains next door neighbour) so I've been zoning on wipeout pulse lately and got a 72 zones with 174563 points on moa therma. I think that's a good run![]()
So I see a ton of Syncopia Zone action, but have you all done all the other tracks as well? I have noticed it seems considerably easier to get records on other tracks due to everyone playing on Syncopia. This is not to tarnish anyone for zoning exclusively on Syncopia. I myself haven't gotten overn zone 80 there. But I have been able to get really good rankings on Chenghou Reverse, Metropia Fwd, and Sol 2 Rev with almost little to no effort leading me to believe there is no zone love for other tracks. Thoughts?
Good question, Mannjon.
I actually race on almost all the other tracks too, but I'm not as good at them. In fact, I posted a video here of my Zone 80 Anulpha Pass reverse run. My strongest tracks after Syncopia are Anulpha Pass (reverse), Vineta K (forward), Sebenco Climb (reverse), Metropia (reverse), Modesto Heights (reverse), Moa Therma (forward) and maybe Amphiseum (forward). I think reverse tracks in general are much easier to set good records on without too much effort because the reverse tracks just aren't as popular. The only tracks I really suck at are Ubermall (forward and reverse), Sol 2 (forward and reverse) and Chenghou Project (especially reverse). Maybe Syncopia is the most popular because that's where you can easily get the highest zones in the game. But I think hitting Zone 60 on Chenghou Project is far more impressive than Zone 80 on Anulpha Pass or Syncopia.
I tend to Zone Battle on the other tracks more often, i love the high speed, but it takes too long to get there with a normal zone
With zone battle you can simply just boost to it ^^, wish you could ZB to 75 though! I Dunno, zone battle is just more fun, not enough people play it though :/
Cipher
I'm a little different for my Zone really, when I play WOHD Zone I am exclusive to Syncopia and Anulpha forward because I feel like if I can't get to a really high Zone (which to me is like Zone 85+) then I get frustrated because I feel like it wasn't a rewarding experience like reaching Zone 140 on Syncopia. That is just me as a person ^.^
However for the other Wipeouts I have which are Pulse and 2048 I actually Zone on all the tracks, 2048 I've done Zone 142 on Sol2 and Pulse Moa Therma forward I've reached Zone 77 (Just part of my many Zone records list)
Regards to Zone Battle I don't care about the track though, because like Cipher said you can boost and absorb to victory with little effort so for me it doesn't matter.
Also Cipher I agree with you, WHY CAN'T WE GOT TO ZONE 75 ON ZB?? IT WOULD BE AWESOME
*sigh* I wish ZB was more popular online, but the corruptive properties of Eliminator seems to sway the new pilots away from such a masterpiece game mode :/
I think zoning on harder tracks is a totally different experience from zoning on Anulpha and Syncopia. It's a different type of thrill even though your zone is not nearly as high. Reaching Zone 50 on Modesto Heights or Sebenco Climb reverse, for example, is scary stuff.
And yeah, I wish the programmers could allow you to make a zone battle goal of 75. What's the point of having a zone target of 15? Seriously? And I wish they would fix the leaderboards as well.
Elims can be fun
Prefer 1v1 rather than the mess it gets with 4 or more people, still ZB > elims by far
And yup, zone 75 would be lovely, i just tend to not boost the last couple of zones just so i can enjoy the speed ^^ (unless there's challenging ZB players in the lobby)
Cipher
Glad to see that Zone mode will never die
Hey guys, if you wanna play one day ZB I'm here!
Ryuga, I thought you retired!
And do you still use your Funeral Mask account? Or were you able to get your Ryuga account back? I really want to try a ZB with you, El Cho, Cipher and Snakenator to see how badly I get destroyed. I haven't been able to play as much recently because of my job, so my skills are rusty. But I would LOVE to zone with you guys!
Hey Zzonkmiles! What's up!?
Unfortunately no, Funeral Mask got permaban. 2nd time I lose my account, this is a very pain in the a** ! In fact after this ban I didn't play online for a bit because I did not want to start AGAIN from zero. That sucks.![]()
I'm not playing WipEout because I don't know who play with, but as you said the race in ZB will be a super ideaI'll come for sure!
My PSN ID is displayed on the right![]()
Still look at your 183 Zones and just, awe and wonder, want to feel such speed :3 2000km/h me just want. But I'm only 43 Zones off beating that and setting a new Zone WR
I'm up for ZB as well any day![]()
