No I don't think it can work. I have never figured it out.
You can try the cheat codes to unlock Rapier and Firestar on PSP.

Oh believe me, I've tried that god knows how many times.

It worked for me anyway.
All you have to do is push triangle button on Your save from ps3 and choose copy while You have psp connected with ps3 and it should ask you if converted this save to psp format ,choose ok and thats it.
Should be ok.
