    Default Wipeout Pure prototype?

I read on http://wipeoutblog.1up.com that the initial prototype code ran on Windows. Are there any screen shots of this early version running?

Another interesting tidbit from that blog was the mentioning that music from previous Wipeout games will be featuring in the downloads, seemingly confirming that music will play a part, and old tunes will be revisited.

More Cold Storage anyone? How about a 2005 remix of Body In Motion or Cold Comfort? We can but dream...

The first versions of Pure ran with an emulator (yes, there's a PSP emulator made by Sony), maybe this emulator runs on Windows, so it could be true.

The emulator version has been left behind long ago, Al - as soon as PSP devkits arrived.

Also, by "tracks" Linky means racetracks, not music tracks. Although I imagine there will be additional music for download, don't go thinking it'll be from previous games.

That's the quote that caught my attention too. Has something been slipped that shouldn't?

Maybe Linky knows something I don't, but the licensing restrictions in doing this kind of thing mean it's not worth the effort. Artists are usually paid a fee for their music being used in a game, and it's specific to that title. Any further use in later titles would mean renegotiation and financial outlay for something that would be of little relevance to Wipeout Pure.

Put it this way, I don't expect to be seeing updated versions of the Wipeout 3 soundtrack available for download, although I don't suppose Cold Storage would be too far out of the question, given his previous relationship with the studio.

As for the Chemical Brothers and other independant artists of that nature... snowballs chance in hell.

    :

    Who knows?

By the way, all the hi-res screenshots - and the E3 2004 video - come from the emulated version. Just have a hunt around on IGN.

    ( HI-res = bigger than 480x272 )

That's why I mentioned Cold Storage. His tracks would simply have increased fan fare too, which would probably make remixes or revisits to old tracks more important to the series historically.

Although where he'd get the time to contribute is beyond me, as according to his forum, he's swept off his feet with projects left, right and centre.

We never really used the Sony PSP emulator - it was too slow at the time so our guys kind of wrote their own.

It wont ever be available, its a development tool, nothing else and hasnt been touched pretty much since we made the transition to the real dev kits late last summer

All I wanted was screen-shots, Colin.

I was interested in seeing how the game looked running on a PC... better was the answer!

I know you wanted screenshots, but others had hinted and asked about the emulator in the past.
Anyway, Imagine it super hi-res, then up the res some more

    can you picture it ?

well it looked twice as lovely as that

    but it no longer works

    I'm imagining.

The water on the image below looks different?

To be honest, as beautiful as the game is on the PSP the only thing I'd ask for - and which is a problem with most racing games - is that there is not enough movement in the environment. I'd like to see the clouds move, the water ripple and people walking around. Of course this may be out of the PSP's reach, but that's what I'd like. Pure goes someway towards this with the zeppelins and boats but I want more.
