List of Zone Names

Just for the heck of it, I've decided to collect the names and zone numbers of the zones in Zone mode. If any of you can help fill it in be my guest. I'll edit this post with each name and number posted

Zone 0-1: Sub-Venom
Zone 2: Venom
Zone 3-4: Sub-Flash
Zone 5-6: Flash
Zone 7-11: Sub-Rapier
Zone 12-15: Rapier
Zone 16-19: Sub-Phantom
Zone 20-26: Phantom
Zone 27-34: Super-Phantom
Zone 35-41: Zen
Zone 42-50: Super-Zen
Zone 50-59: Subsonic
Zone 60-74: Mach 1
Zone 75+: Supersonic

Fan-made Zones
Zone 0: NASA Crawler
Zone 100+: ProblemSolver Zone.
Zone 100-129: Transsonic
Zone 130+: Hypersonic

iirc
Supersonic is 75+
Subsonic is 50-69
Mach 1 is zone 60-74 and I think you've got the rest

Mabye at Zone 100 developers put in a ridiculous zone name or something. Good Luck making it that far though.

Pretty sure supersonic is the highest. Not sure exactly which zone you'd be going Mach 2 at but I don't think it announces it.

Where's Arnaud when you need him?;)

When you take speed into account, I think that Mach 2 is approx. zone 90 (If not, feel free to correct me on this).

Where is problemsolver, he hit 125 on AP so he would know what comes after Supersonic if anything does.

problem solver knows everything. he owns the zone..

new zone names could be

hyper speed
warp spped
light speed

what about a zone that went up and down in speed by random like you play at the zone and your on phantom then it jumps to mach1 then to venom..thatll test your reflexs and ability to adapt.

There is nothing after supersonic (which makes PS rather upset ;))
tbh i think there should be at least 1 new named zone at zone 100 - the people who get that far really deserve something for their efforts :D

I don't think these would be possible. Given that Phantom is about 700 km/h, and the speed of light is about 10 or 20 times that, an Ag craft would be engineered, even in Zone events, so that it can only break the Sound Barrier a certain amount of times.

i think light speed is 86000 miles per second. but it still sounds good.. i would like all the screen to go wierd and stretched out like you were out of it.:nod:nod

As good as that sounds, I don't think that SL would go for that. Possibly because there isn't many people who get that far.;)

The 'obvious' extensions to SUPERSONIC are; TRANSSONIC and
HYPERSONIC. I still have to write down how they should look like. At
least, they should look beyond awesome (xD) such that a lot of people
will try to get there (somehow).

TRANSSONIC would be a good match for zone 100 and HYPERSONIC for zone
130. Anything thereafter could be labeled HYPERSONIC 1, HYPERSONIC 2, and
so on. There should also be a special sound once you reach TRANS- and / or
HYPERSONIC. A deep computerized voice would be cool.

Upset? Might be true. The problem is that the color scheme for SUPERSONIC
virtually last forever. Just look at Syncopia, it last from zone 75 to 136,
at least. That's a long time.

I think they thought it isn't worth the effort since only a few people
get past zone 100. But by the same token, why having a platinum trophy
when only a few people can achieve it? I also miss some easter eggs
within the game. Up until know nobody has found anything despite taking
1000 of photos. Are there any?


Last but not least, if we speak about names, don't forget other great
ZONE racer like for example kingheim, he takes top spots as well and
he is always on stage to beat my records.

Wasn't it you who found the Lemmings sprites on the displays of zone events at supersonic speed? I count that one as an easter egg. ;)

@sny: Sure. But it popped in my face like nothing else. Kinda of an anti-easter egg. xD

By checking wikipedia ... the speed of light is 1,079,252,848.8 kilometers per hour. In comparison the speed of sound (Mach 1) is 1,236 kilometers per hour. Roughly a million times faster. Quite a long way to go.

An excursion into physics;
A phycial object that has a mass at rest can't move with the speed of light,

is finite (bounded). Allowing for an infinite amount of energy in the theory of

So, you need a ship with zero mass. Or you could do it like in Star Trek:

1) Create a warp bubble around the ship
2) Ship does not move inside the warp bubble
3) Warp bubble moves with speed of light or higher
4) Thus relatively to the track your ship is moving with the speed of light, BUT in terms of physics the ship is stationary.

Problem solved.

Well, you could also warp space-time too but then we're turning this into a physics geeks forum. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, i took physics in High School.)

Actually they also use inertial damping fields in Star Trek to reduce the inertial mass of the ship to make it easier to move. So I guess you could just go with that and reduce the ship's mass to zero and not have to bother with the whole warp bubble thing, so long as you didn't want to actually go *faster* than light. Would do wonders for the thrust statistic too ;-).

But of course once you get to those speeds you'd have to start dealing with what the frequency of your ship is and how many of them you have to pilot at once, and other such nonsense.

So if you did manage to get a ship to relativistic speeds, could you theoretically pilot it through *both* branches at the Ubermall split? And would it diffract as it goes through the narrow bit at Anulpha Pass?

So many questions.

We need to go to Mars first and find the Prothean data cache with some Element Zero. Then eventually get to Charon and have it thaw to uncover the Mass Relay.

So the next logical name would be Hypersonic, and not Transonic. However, since we want a Zone which ProblemSolver can reach, Hypersonic is out as well because it corresponds to a minimal speed of around 6000 km/h.
The next zone would have to be Mach 2, but then again I doubt ProblemSolver can even reach that, so unfortunately if we want to remain with the standard we will have to keep Supersonic as the last named Zone, simply because any further realistic objective is humanely impossible to reach (And therefore useless to implement.)

Of course we could also forget about official scientific names and just go with something made up like the first few zones (up to subsonic). I mean, Venom, is that really a speed class in real life?
