Well, here's my impression of her, with the "Connecting Accessory" ;)
Crikey! you've been watching the wrong genre of films? :P :lol
LOL, I just had to link to that when infox mentioned butch. :g
@gaddafi: You're from Preston? Coolio. :D
Today I made Cardboy :)
He's about 6cm tall when printed on letter paper.
Walking my dog yesterday (I actually walked a real dog! I swear!), I pondered the story. Particularly the estate / stationwagon part.
In Danish, such a vehicle is a 'stationcar' - including the 'car' bit, which is kinda weird. But... as an exception to the rule, a Volvo used to be referred to as what translates into Estate Car.
Why this honour of a British title is bestowed only on Volvo I really don't know. Every other car gets the common and base American title.
I guess this constitutes Useless fact of the Day :D
I think I will find out about redundancies at work tomorrow. There was an ominous email to the whole group today, just telling everyone to be in the office on Thursday morning. It's a bit weird though, as they've never told us that before. At the same time my group never suffered much before, so that could be a bad sign.
I hope I don't get selected, but in some ways am just as concerned about workmates, both for them and for me (selfishly). There are relatively few people who I really get on with very well, so if a single one of them went it would totally suck, and some of them have recently gained obligations like mortgages and families/dependents, which I'm thankful I don't, just in case it all goes horribly wrong.
I really want to put off going to bed, as if it would somehow put off tomorrow coming. Unfortunately, it's actually after 1am already, so tomorrow is already here. Stupid tomorrow! Oh well, fingers crossed.
urgh... I went through exactly that last month. Everybody be at their desk tomorrow 8 am :|
It's not exactly a funfilled few hours, especially when one is located right next to the office used for the actual firing. Seeing the condemned walk past is pretty tough.
Did you get to keep your job?
We got another email telling us to let them know if we'd be out of the office Friday as well, so presumably it's tomorrow now. I wish it were a bit clearer. We all know what it's about but unless someone actually says the word 'redundancies' then it feels a bit weird. It's almost worse that they treat the word as taboo. I kind of feel for the guy giving people the news too. That must suck!
I also realised today that tomorrow will be exactly three years since I started working there. Somehow, I'm not sure that's a good omen. Neither is the fact that my boss tried to strike up a conversation with me today, as that hasn't really happened before.
Hopefully I'm just paranoid. I'm definitely a little bit paranoid.:nod
Well, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you :nod
It's never a good sign when people who may be in the know starts changing habits, but it's quite likely he doesn't know anything yet and either tries to calm everybody else down or tries to hide his own insecurity.
At least my company has gotten redundancies down to an art. It is announced a day in advance, is over the next day after a few hours and the casualtylist is published at midday. It can seem a bit brutal, but it is over in a hurry.
It is still not exactly good for morale and motivation though :| I hope you make it through!
A day in advance? Is that the only thing you hear at all? We've had to have a long process this time. I think for over 100 people there has to be a 3 month consultation period or something like that. It never is that long though, as they seem to include whatever notice staff are to be given in that period. It's all very weird. But people do hate the way it's dragged out.
Well if the rumour mill fails, then one day is all we get. Of course, depending on how long you've been with the company, you still get paid 3-6 months after you're sent home so you're not just put on the street with an empty pocket and sore bum :)
They tried one time announcing it a few months in advance. I bet it cut productivity by 75%, everybody just sat around and waited, no new projects were started and nobody had any inclination to anything other than the absolute minimum. I say it works much better just getting it done in a hurry.
In Singapore,I think the notification of resignation is required at least 2 months in advance.I know that this is about retrenching/firing(Retrenching is better than being fired?).How does the process work over there?
I'm not sure what happens here once people know. I can't imagine anyone wanting to hang around for long. But once people know their last day is supposed to be near the start of December, so I think people have to stay on. Some have holidays carried over which they can use to get out earlier.
Anyway, I didn't hear anything today at all - not even any rumours. But I checked my emails earlier this evening and there was a message saying that the process is ongoing and we can't be given the 'all clear' yet. I will try to just get on with stuff now and not think about it. I do wish they'd just make things more certain for everyone though.:(
Thats sucks saturn. do you think no news is good news? i mean perhaps if they'd already made a decision to cut the staff they might have been more forthcoming with a date?
*heres a random musing i though id throw out there. been thinking about this all day :lol
do animals get hiccups?
They're making cuts. The last day of work for anyone who will go is already stated. It's a matter of who and how many. Then once they identify people for redundancy, they look at options for relocating people outside the UK if possible. Then there are some who will want to argue their case etc. So the process is ongoing. But because I haven't heard anything at all about anyone, I'm wondering if they haven't even told everyone yet. They've said they can't give the all clear so I have no idea what's really happening.
But still, I think that you might be right. Obviously, as long as I haven't heard then I'm safe, and the same goes for workmates etc.
I imagine animals do get hiccups. It's completely involuntary and some weird natural occurrence that I think could easily happen in animals.
My dog get hiccups regularly. My guess is, if you have lungs, you can hiccup. Fish on the other hand...
id take the moving of dates to have 'meetings' as a good thing. gotta keep the faith :D even if it is a massive downer :-
interesting. ive never seen it happen. or perhaps im just not looking for the signs of animal hiccups. im sure there are youtube videos. there seems to be one for everything
Yes they do.
Seeing as how I barely made any posts (most likely because of college work), but I can't wait to finish my current semester in college so I can take digital art class. I'm not just a gamer, but an artist-under-training :).
