Why Gillet Why?
THE CLOSEST SHAVE YOU WILL EVER GET!
PLASMA FUSION GILLETTE RAZOR!
FACIAL HAIR ELIMINATED!
(capslock bypasser)
:g
Laser operati-- no... plasma operation?! It would stop you from ever needing to worry about anything growing again on your face... even skin cells. :P
68% of Fury downloaded so far. I really didn't feel like seeing the ad every 3 races for month to come. I already use Gillette for crying out loud! But not anymore...
Ha, it thrashed my head earlier when I went to get a drink between races and I heard a Gillette advert. Thought I'd stepped on the remote on my way out but no, there it was. The ads were on when I first got my PS3 but I didn't mind because it was a hot blonde in suspenders. I miss her.
Fun Fact: Girl in suspenders is Jess from 'The Real Hustle' :D
I demand semi-nekkid ladies on my loadscreen!
Wow wow wow just a minute there fellas: you have ads in your loading screens? :eek I wasn't even aware of that.
I guess it depends on the country and the national law but holy **** at this kind of practice. I knew that some online billboards were "on sale" in some games, but loading times? Really?
The world of tomorrow seems bleak. Although I guess that a creative marketodroid could come up with "well, stuffing ads in every last place possible is very coherent with this game who presents a dystopian future composed of ultra-consumerism and death races".
EDIT: I will probably rage pretty hard if there are ads in my game this week...
EDIT02: Ho and obviously very late to the party. Now I remember some talk of this quite some time ago, but I really forgot about it had no idea they continued on with this.
GNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH.
This is my first experience with them as well. :/ I thought I'd missed it all.
It's hard for me to be indignant about the in-game ads. I'm absolutely fine with them happening in online games, because online infrastructure costs money to run, and it's not like I am doing anything else valuable with my time while waiting to get beat by all of you online.
Seeing them happen during racebox loading screens pissed me off a good bit. I suppose I could just sign out of PSN to avoid it, but still, they were a bit much.
Ultimately though, if it means more Wipeout, and that SCEE is paying attention to Wipeout enough to do ad sales and revenue promotion, then I am all for it. The SL layoffs really bothered me because to me I felt it meant a long term coma for the Wipeout Franchise. However, I see developments in the online ad space as a positive thing for the future of the franchise.
Whatever gets me more Wipeout games, I'll be fine with.
I was just entering a game, the loading screen appeared and – BAM! In your face! – there comes a big fat bold movie trailer. They must be joking.
Not only was it totally weird in context but also it was LOUD. And I mean LOUD. My speakes didn’t like it. Neither my ears did.
What are they thinking? „After that ad, they will watch that movie – everybody loves Tinnitus!“?!
crazy stuff the ads are back after all this time. The plague reached France too now, Ace3 just reported it today. Jeez this is so lame.
yeah i don't get why they've suddenly popped up again, who decides to put them in? and why haven't there arms been broken to stop this happening again? :clap
on a marginally related note how many Gillette blades is too many Gillette blades? ;)
I was about to consider a total boycott of the films they're trying to show us (Due Date is the one I'm getting - don't know about you guys but this one looks dreadful) but maybe we could all at least get together in a bit WipEout group and after getting horrendously drunk go and see it. Maybe then they'll all stop.
Either that or we all buy Wilkinson Sword Hydros for our fathers for Christmas. ;)
lol...adverts suk..
they should put this advert onto wipeout it pretty much sums up what we think about adverts forced onto our owned game we already paid for..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CN7KPIELts
lol im so glad im not the only one who hears that every time, i had to double take first time "wait.. what did he say???"
if its gonna be advert requests lol then please sony put the VW polo advert with the singing dog, its so funny

Well at least we can claim that the WOHD Cup has real life official sponsors :P
^ Yea, except for the sponsors are doing the sponsoring in such a way that it would be akin to breaking into a football stadium in the dead of night, plastering their banners on the boards surrounding the pitch and then running away quickly without sharing any of the profits. :P
I've since re-installed WOHD again and turned off my auto-login to PSN. No more ads.
You should. Everybody should. If everybody who owns a PS3 boycotts every single product / brand that's advertised on the PSN then the advertising will soon stop. Shame it will never happen but I'll do my bit. Due Date, Wilkinson Sword etc. can all f*** off.
Good thing I have lost interest in HD.
After ads for Rocky (in bluray disc) but long time ago, now it's for movie called ' date limite ' (due date) of something like that ;)
Ads are baaaaaack. For 127 Hours
Delete, redownload, reinstall, boot only when signed out of PSN, sorted ;)
If nothing else it shows someone still thinks there's life left in the old game or maybe just an extremely persistent salesperson.
Off Topic* Not a bad advert though, I'll go and see it when it comes out, I've read that people have been walking out in disgust and throwing up at one particular part of the film.
What yeldar said. It's easy, legal, and simple.
However...
Yesterday someone posted a method on GameFAQs to block the ads using custom firmware.
Specifically, using GeoHot 3.55 (which is making very big news), you can open a hex editor inside the PS3 and edit the URLs that Wipeout HD uses to downloaded ads from "http" to "hxxp" or something which will of course break them. You can log on to PSN ad-free.
You can also simply navigate to the folder where they're downloaded and delete the ads. They're BLINK video files and apparently this will keep you ad-free for a while, but the game will redownload the ads eventually, so that's why dude posted the above method.
VERY interesting. This is why I like CFW.
And I think you mean Bink video. ;)
Yeah, Bink, whatever. :)
Also I read that thread wrong. Supposed to be "in" a hex editor and not "is" a hex editor. My eyes are getting bad as I get older. :P
Still haven't tried it yet. I haven't connected to PSN since installing GeoHot, even though I hear it works fine. I don't want my console to be logged on their servers as suspicious.
All I want is to run the Wipeout HD Preview Edition, but that's a topic for another thread.
It may be possible to edit the file using custom firmware, then go back to a "legit" firmware, and continue on.
Preview Edition? Is that like a beta?
I haven't been seeing ads lately, did they roll out new ones again? x.x
It's a DVD of WipEout HD that was sent to journalists for reviewing. The essential difference is that Zone mode would feature (we assume) the old graphics effects.
Unfortunately that preview version would only work on debug consoles, and since the general populace doesn't have those it would only be a paperweight to those that happen to own that version of the game.
Now with CFW, that may change and it may be possible to make the preview version work.
Again, very interesting. Assuredly if I can fix my PS3 it will go in CFW while the slim will be used online. I don't have WipEout HD preview but there will be other interesting uses certainly.
Ads vary considerably depending on what country you're in. They're like billboards. Sometimes a billboard will go unused in certain areas, used in others.
I just found out that the preview version requires a USB key to be inserted as well as a debug console. Man it's going to take a very clever person to get it work on a normal PS3, even with CFW.
I'm wondering right now if anyone knows how to block a web address from the router firewall level. I'm sure it's possible, I just don't know how myself.
Theoretically, with the information provided by this CFW hack, we could get the http web addresses that are used to download the streaming ads, block them at the router's firewall (if there is no possible conflict) and then there would be this:
1. No need for CFW (Just block the addresses in the firewall instead of erasing them from the PS3)
2. No need to log out of PSN before starting the game.
No more ads? Sounds fun, so anyone know how to block these? ;)
Shouldn't you be able to access your router settings somewhere, then check on them for any ideas?
The options routers have available are dependant on brand and model, but website/address filters should be common and pretty basic to use.
The hardest part is figuring out the address.
First you should check whether the IPs/hosts are used for anything else WO related, so you don't inadvertently block something important.
If the IPs are not used it should be pretty straight forward to block them on the IP/hostname.
If they are used elsewhere you'll need to block the whole URL somehow, but then your router need some form of proxy functionality. If it does, it should be a piece of cake though.
Maybe your router has some form of "parental control" that can be used for this? Depending on what router you have YMMV quite a lot :)
Luckily I haven't seen ads for ages, I pray it continues so...
Wtf? I've never had any advert while playing Wipeout! :|
Depending on which country you live in you will see different adverts... or if you're lucky... no adverts at all.
The UK seems to be the most affected by ads... there's always something and lots of other people outside the UK then say "what adverts?". :P
Allright, I'm lucky then I guess! :) would be bloody annoying!!
Darn, that thread on GameFAQs was deleted, and I don't remember the directory structure he listed.
I'll give it a shot anyway, next time I FTP into my PS3.
Try these URLs:
hxxp://AdSonyProd.doublefusion.com/Adserver/SonyADServerWS/SonyDistributorService.svc
hxxp://rs.prd.ads.playstation.net/rs/dispatcher
Except replace "hxxp" with "http" (I forgot how to disable hotlinking).
I haven't tested a means of editing them yet, but I will give it a go before returning to official firmware.
thanks for the update :)
It should be possible to block those via your router as well, right..?
