Type O Negative were for a long time one of my favourite bands. But as I got more into dance music I left them behind, couldn't be arsed with the depressing music (and Type O are depressing).
Anyway last night I thought I'd look them up again and see what albums they'd made since I last listened to them (over 10 years ago). It turns out their lead singer Pete Steele died of a heart attack in 2010. I was genuinely gutted, I had the pleasure of meeting him (briefly) many years ago, and his music was at one time a huge part of my life.
So I bought the albums they've made since, and listened to them all last night. There's some amazing music, they seem to have got better and better, but one track stood out. Ladies and gents, "I Don't Wanna Be Me". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXIWRan3XGY. I challenge you not to like this song, it's pure rock 'n roll. RIP Peter Steele, I'm sad that I went away from Type O.
You´re right Adam, Type O were a great band! My first bass-guitar was full of Type O - Stickers and I had that great "Bloody Kisses" poster in my room.
I listened to their music until "October Rust" was released, but -in my opinion only- their music was already too homogenous by that time. The death of Pete Steele was a great loss, no doubt. Hence, it´s a pity that I´ve never witnessed a live concert of Type O, even though I was a fan of their first releases.
A depressive mood can be stated, and sometimes it just the right music to listen to, besides the fact that Mr. Steele was a fantastic bass player who had a very strong and charismatic appearance.
May he rest in peace.
I only saw them once, at Donington I think, around '98. They were on the second stage and only got half an hour, which is 3 songs for them! Their cover of Paranoid is still one of my favourite songs.
