Okay so it makes sense for you to display as part of four statistics one that is utterly useless?
Nope.

Okay so it makes sense for you to display as part of four statistics one that is utterly useless?
Nope.
Is it a problem that I posted what I did, darkdrium? I'm not quite understanding your post.
No, I'm saying that Speed having an effect in SP and no effect in MP makes no sense.
Why bother displaying it otherwise?
Besides, it does have an effect, although the effect is the same as in SP, which is to say minimal at best.
Alright, thanks for clarifying! Just needed to make sure I wasn't upsetting anyone, haha.
Speed definitely makes a difference, online and off.
It mainly comes into effect when there is no opportunity to BR - and largely on the lower speed classes, at that - but the speed difference between ships like the HD AG-S and an Icaras is quite noticeable. Definitely not as big a deal on Phantom.
I'd say on some tracks at Venom, the difference can be around a second per lap (e.g., Moa Therma), especially if you're without a boost to make chained BR's out of, so the difference in multiplayer will be greater unless you're lucky with pickups.
Don't tell me I'm the only one who has been leading a race, only to be overtaken by an Icaras catching up to me as they steal the weapon pad from me from behind?
On Venom Icaras can have more than a second per lap if no BR or Turbo is used. Icaras dominates the lower speed classes. They always catch up to me on straight lines...
Thanks for the input guys, it's all coming along nicely. There's still quite a way to go yet, but the bloody thing is already pushing 20 minutes long!
Can't wait to see it when it's finished Hellfire. :)
As a new pilot I'd really love to see this :>
GL Hellfire
I think you mean this splitscreen of me and JJPAP.
http://www.wegame.com/watch/Team_Nor...v_Splitscreen/
At the end of the first lap (24 seconds) I'm on the left of him on his screen, and he's on the left of me on my screen. Or possibly the other way around. It's confusing. I think we're both occupying the same space out our own ends and the game just doesn't know what to do. The attached screencap shows it well. It also appears to show my name appearing twice on the right-hand screen.
This is why they should make all the ships ghosts all the time.
Until they figure out how to correct that problem.
what darkdrium said x1000. i get run off the track so many crazy ways, but nothing pisses me off more than sum1 going under me on the double hairpin of modesto and me oing off the track...RAGE!
Here's the full contents of the video:
- Controls and a demonstration of what they do
- How to remap controls and the importance of acceleration sensitivity
- Explanation of the ship select screen, talking about the two different ships per team and explaining the stats. I've also included the fact that there are stats beyond what is displayed, and that the Fury ships are not overwhelmingly superior to the HD ones
- Split screen demonstration of the differences in stats
- Demonstration of airbrake use, showing racing lines with and without airbrakes.
- Split screen demonstration of a good and poor racing line
- Demonstration of various uses of sideshifting
- Explanation of barrel rolling
- Pilot assist - what it does and why you shouldn't use it
- Weapon demonstrations and quick advice on how to use them effectively
- Explanation of shield energy, the warning signs and how to restore energy
- Strategies for pitching the craft, how it can be used to stick the craft to the track in difficult corners, or raising it to barrel roll
- Effects of track inclination on the craft and how this will affect handling
- Demonstration of how to do a boost start
- Explanation and demonstration of the five speed classes
- Brief explanation of the different game modes
At the moment I'm on the weapons demonstration. Still a way to go but it's starting to take shape quite nicely
However, I've had a think and I'm going to stay out of the whole online business. The video is really intended to help new players get to grips with actually playing the game and controlling the craft, online I think will be best saved for another time. The problems are also already explained in the FAQ.
Video is now finished, coming in just shy of 45 minutes. I'm uploading it now, but it's going to take nearly 5 hours!
Wow, you're lucky Hellfire. Mine takes about that for a 15 min video! Looking forward to seeing it anyway, it sounds like quite a piece of work :clap
Damm I just though of another one.
The different HUD's available, and how to read what each one is telling you.
OMG I literally laughed out loud at the Pilot Assist section :g
It's done!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxzYkTralIA
Yeah, I thought I'd add a slight personal touch to that one ;)
Ditto on the PA advice.
Very nicely done.:+:+:+
I've posted links to it and your individual Track & beat Zico tutorials.
Great job, Hellfire! :+
Quite amazing actually, with the amount of work gone into it. Kudos!
Nice vid, Hellfire, and pretty epic at over 40 minutes :)
Does a really good job of establishing the basics of how to play the game. If I had to make one criticism, I'd say that it possibly could have used a remark asking players to take things one step at a time, but I'm sure most will do that anyway, so it's hardly a fault. Very well done!
@Hellfire:
I'm a brand new 41-year-old, married-with-kids Wipeout HD player from Edinburgh, Scotland.
I discovered this forum whilst searching for a tutorial on how to play the game.
I have just finished reading through your online FAQ and I have to say that it is, without doubt, one of the finest game FAQs I have ever read - total kudos to you for the effort and pride that you have obviously put into this.
I have also just finished watching the beginner's video tutorial and that too is an outstanding piece of work.
PS - I love this game - wish I had picked it up for my PS3 ages ago. At least something good has come out of the PSN outage! :D
Charlie, that's brilliant work - must have taken some effort to get all that together. :+
Petition to Studio Liverpool:
Add a trophy into 2048: 'Now I am the Master - Beat Hellfire_WZ in an online 1-on-1 event, or defeat someone who has this trophy'
*offtopic*ooh you know what really would be cool? A wipeoutzone set of trophies like... beat assayeah's time on altima VII (the time from wo the original)*offtopic*
anyway I wish I'd had that video to look at when I was starting out!
You would need a NegCon controller to get even close to Assa's time, and I doubt the craft handling, or track would be the same in 2048 version of the track.
Plus of course BR's now.
It would be cool if in a future wipeout SL put up little statues around the tracks of famous pilots from the Zone & Arena who created world records, or named corner or straights after them.
Asayyeah's tunnel, or Leungboks bend, Yeldars dip etc :D
Thanks for your encouragement guys, this is the reason I keep on going with these videos :)
I watched it all :P. I'm still learning after all this time.
Great stuff Charlie :+
You mean you finally turn pilot assist off ? :p
How did you guess :D
I tried randomly ! :D
FEISAR HD VS Icaras Fury comparison
-FEISAR,even if it has the lowest top speeds, has a speed stat of 70,hence,it is "tied" with AG-Systems.
Barrel Rolling
-Unsuccessful rolls also cost shield points.(Which the novices should know later on)
Pilot Assist(Not a discrepancy,just a nice joke,kudos to you)
-Nice one on the Ashen-like voice "DON'T USE IT!"(I did an experiment.I had some friends over who are greenhorns to the WipEout series,I did not mention Pilot Assist to them. They performed better than if PA was on.)
How do you unlock the Icaras/auricom zone battle skins? I've got the Fury chrome skins but these two are still locked
Sorry if this's been discussed earlier, I did a search and didn't find squat
The Zone Battle Skins unlock as you complete the Fury Campaign. I'm guessing you've completed the HD campaign but not the Fury campaign right? By the way there's a better thread for random WOHD questions here.
This thread relates specifically to Hellfire's guide :)
Damn, I was sure I'd posted there in the first place. Guess I had both threads open and screwed up.
Anyway, no sense posting the same thing twice so I'll keep the question here. I've finished both campaigns with all medals and got all skins except those two (Icaras/auricom zone battle). Friend of mine says he got them halfway through Aftermath, so I dunno if my save's bugged. I got lots of silver and bronze in that event tho, I'll see if getting some more points there fixes it.
Thanks for replying
Hmm, yeah the silvers and bronzes may be the issue. I know you have to get golds to get the Fury Campaign Legend trophy, but there's no added bonus for doing it on elite (other than pride ;))
hey, im sure everybody who's playing the game in 1080p is aware of this annoying frame-rate drops (slowdowns), especially on the fury tracks AND even more annoying (well for me) in zone modes, especially detonator. i have to say, that i played the game in 576i until 3 weeks ago & never really had those slowdowns (the CRT-TV i used to play with died). i couldn't live without wipEout so i went to the next electronics-store & got myself a fast pc-monitor (syncmaster bx2331)...
1080p looks fantastic and everything, BUT 720p is the resolution to play with!
it's almost as smooth as 576i AND still looks fantastic :)
I have no trouble with framerate drops I have to say though hd tvs and computer monitors are slightly different of course... could be you've got yourself a monitor thats optimized for high resolution photo viewing those are generally not as good at fps as your avarage hd(-ready) tv.
of course it's a gaming monitor (2ms), im not stupid u know.
and it's the ps3 that isn't able to deliver 60fps in 1080p when there's alot of action on screen, fact. reduce resolution = higher (more constant) frame-rate, plain & simple. same going as on PC.
