Now I've gotten my hopes up.

May have been mentioned but using the right analog stick to control thrust and/or directional air brakes would be awesome. I've noticed that using the left analog stick to steer is the best for making smooth turns so this would balance the grip out, leaving the shoulder buttons for pickup and fire.
First post btw, hi all :)
The most important thing for me with this game was investing in the Trigger Grip by PDP. Best $18 I've ever spent. I just can't play 2048 (or ANY game that makes use of the shoulder buttons) comfortably without it. My hands are less cramped with it too, which results in less numbness. Works and feels great. I simply feel like I'm holding an over-sized Dual Shock controller. Just awesome. Combining it with the "Wipeout" controls configuration is a marriage made in heaven. Pretty much mimics the feel of playing WOHD on PS3. Can't recommend it enough and consider it a must-have for all zoners. Here's a link to it for anyone who hasn't seen it:

Here is the one I use. Very good as well
can you load the battery while playing with that grip?
@ JABBERJAW: Cool, and nice price, but that's not quite the same thing. While it certainly helps with ergonomics, it doesn't have triggers that operate the shoulder buttons, which is a major selling point of the one that I use. I gotta have the triggers.
@ anderkovver: Not sure what you mean...the Vita doesn't have a removable battery. Unless I've misunderstood you're question...
No you cant charge while playing, which sucked, so I opened it up, and changed the locking mechanism to a hole for the charger to fit, then sealed the lock part to stay ( you can still get the vita out without damaging it. I had both of these holders for the ps and liked the one I showed better, I could reach the buttons easier. Both were good though, and if want to charge while playing the round handled one is for you. Both are far better than just holding the system. The system should actually been designed with handle grips right on it, would have gotten some great press I think
I am bumping this thread as for a reminder. We need more people on this issue, or we are going to get nada. I have a bad feeling right now that nothing is coming except custom controls. There STILL has been zero response on this issue. Maybe they are waiting until there are no complaints anymore, so they can say, " there aren't that many complaints". Once again there would be no reason not to answer this, it could potentially stop people from getting ticked off with the lack of features. I dont mind waiting for 1 or 2 months if I knew a full fledged racebox was coming for single player, adhoc and online. I just got the feeling that the options will be left out of 2 of these modes. For example, online gets fixed and you can choose as before, BUT single player is kept as is, and adhoc isn't even changed at all. Then it turns out they cannot work on the game anymore, gotta go to a new one. We have to drill this in to fix this right the first time, and it needs to be more than three people that continue to bring up this topic.
Honestly Al, I contacted 2 of the main French websites (jeuxvideos.com and psvitagen.fr (dedicated vita this one)) to explain the problem and ask for a news on the topic, but I didn't even had an answer...
Kaori sent an email to them again because he lost his online campaign progress for the 3rd time, and he took the opportunity to remind some lacks in the game.
EDIT :
I've added that on Youtube's channel :

Hello, I'm a bit disappointed on the fact that Sony Liverpool is totally ignoring the requests coming from the long term Fans or new comers, mainly a racebox-like feature (offline and online).
Please communicate to let us know if we can hope for a good online mode, that could be used for tournaments or if we must go and buy some lubricant and regret our acquisition for our lifetime.
Lol! Awesome job kaori, very funny and true
Made a contibution. Wrote them (in a gentle way) about racebox necessity. But I guess they've been bothered enough with that, so any more messages and they'll explode. )
I've emailed Studio Liverpool too, and mentioned it on a couple of their facebook threads, but like everybody else have heard nothing back. It's encouraging that many of the reviews online criticise the lack of features and customisable controls.
At the moment I think SL have a lot on their hands, just trying to get the game they released working as it should do, without trying to do a complete overhaul of online, plus add racebox, and customisable controls.
I fully agree that the game is incomplete as it stands, but I think a little patience is needed on this one. SL have made it clear that it was never a "one-shot release", and that the game will expand with time.
Yeah, but their expansion options never included racebox or custom controls.
@ leungbok, there is no speed lap head to head, that is what they are calling the current model with the ghost options :(
Yes Jabberjaw, very disappointing !
as a reminder of what is missing on the game :
absolutely necessary :
- racebox or racebox-like online & offline (also adhoc) with ability to choose the type of event (single race, tournament, combat), the speed class (from C to A+ for all modes), and some customisable options (weapon off/on, BRs on/off, lobby public/friends or invited only).
- Complete customisable controls.
- Time trial available offline (maybe the same way as speed laps are included in the map) with, why not, settings fitting with the campaign : C class = 2 laps, B class = 3 laps, A class = 5 laps, A+ class = 10 laps.
- leaderboards for timetrials and online races to make it entertaining in the long term
Highly anticipated :
- New tracks and ships.
- New modes (the "zombie" like mode, why not ;))
- new campaign (2051 as an example :p)
- augmented reality (as announced)
- Wipeout Hd/fury tracks and ships for cross play
- rewards to unlock (artworks or ship's skins as an example)
- livery editor
- possibility to change the voice's commentary to what will hit the player rather than what he just picked up.
"would makes the game totally awesome but less crucial" :
- time trials and speed laps online (ala pure)
- one turbo per lap available for time trial and speed lap modes.
- kick option (to fix the "wrecks ships" when some players are in a lobby and don't even race. Very annoying, mostly since the ship is "solid" at the very start of the race)
- add the current speed of the ship on the hud in mph or km.
- replay mode
- Several hud's choice.
- track editor (:p)
feel free to add stuff ^_^
You got my wants almost exact. As we go maybe we can add to your list.
1) ADHOC racebox, EXACTLY the same as online. If this is not specifically stated to them, it will not be touched
2). Transparent ships for first 5 seconds of the race, as well as to any ships that don't move
3). Single race offline as well with all the leader board stuff you said
No mention of Zone in your post leung, I guess it just slipped your mind. I think an easy way to present Racebox would be to keep the big arrow shape they have, but add another line, so it would go C, B, A, A+, Zone. Then if you select a speed category, it presents you with 3 options: TT, SL, Tournament.
Something Jan mentioned ages ago is online Zone, as opposed to Zone Battle. This would be awesome, although I guess it would have to be a 1vs1 thing. Would still rule though :)
Ah ah, these features as a DLC would be more heavy (speaking in MB) than the original game! :g
Well personally I'd pay another £15 if they implemented them all.
