djKyoto, that's good to hear. Mine has a 2.16 GHz Celeron, 535 MHz FSB and 2 GB RAM, and it's at the bottom end, the entry level, of standard laptops. I installed SketchUp with no added plug-ins tonight, and it seems to work fine. I don't yet see a curve smoother for freehand lines yet; I hope there is one so I can do compound reverse curves on the Peregrine racecraft.
I watched a few videos earlier tonight and was amazed at what some people have done with animations. I don't know if they used the free or the pro version; they weren't sayin'. :)
edit: I discovered that I can use the arc tool to get a smooth compound curve.

Thanks for the offer, but this is something I want to do myself. Having someone else do it would be like giving them a stack of selected words and asking them to write a poem for me. Sorta. :) Can you tell that I'm one of those damned artist fellas? They're all eccentric.

Andy, thanks. I watched a couple of Google's tutorials last night, and it's clear that one of the main things I need to master for this project is the Follow-me tool so I can produce curved forms in solid. I may practice that today, if other things permit.
