Thanks for the thought Rachel, but I can handle food talk, lol... but you mention 'tormenting birds' - which sounds quite amusing!
-
Aye, I have 4 birds. 3 Cockatiels and 1 Budgie. We are still training 2 of the 'tiels sand the Budgue, so we have to get them out of the cage as much as we can. We call it tormenting, because they look at us as if we are evil for doing it. xD
-
training? can you train them to make you cups of tea? ;)
-
Unfortunately, no. :( But, I'm potty training (Yes, it can be done.) one of my Cockatiels, does that count? :P

i want to pretend to choke to death in restaurants so people can heimlich maneouvre and become heroes and then out of elated generosity pay for my meal which is apparently something that works a treat
-
That's just bloody genius! Better to try this one nearing the end of the meal, or you'll still be hungry when you leave. :)
-
You've not read that other thread yet, have you. ;)
-
(chokes) Wait! - What "other thread?" ... by my reaction, i'd say no, I haven't lol.
-
it's a good book, have you read it lance, i'd be interested to see the adaptation as against the general trend of contemporary hollywood fight club which alerted me to the existence of palahniuk was an outstanding film filmed with verve and grit and constructed excellently
-
I've not read 'Choke'. Actually, I've not even read 'Fight Club', even though I bought it the day after I saw the movie.
-
that's ok i own plenty of books which i have not yet read
although i'd very much like to read fight club
i think he approaches his stories in the same outcasted, cynical, therapy slanted, acerbic, pragmatic way, but these similar beginnings branch out into attractively objective and dangerously revolutionary views and ideas

Yeah! I just read that other thread, Heinlick...lol gah!
about Arthur C Clarke, is he still hiding in Sri Lanka btw? I heard he was a Paedophile and ran off to Sri Lanka to escape the kurfuffle that ensued after his name got dragged through the dirt! Any truth in this? Good author though... I read all the 'Rama' books about 7yrs ago.
Also noticed MU5 posted ... his current musical selection in the 'what are you reading right now?' thread lol :)
-
never read anything by him before
enjoying the film he cowrote with kubrick though - 2001 of course
apparently there's sequels too
what's rama about?
-
Well, there's 4 books in the Rama series.
Rendezvous with Rama
Rama II
Garden of Rama
Rama Revealed
A story telling of how in the year 2130, an alien craft enters our solar system. By the end of the first novel, many wonders had been uncovered, but few of it's mysteries had been solved. The scope of imagination is so vast here, some of the best sci-fi is right here.
Also, it's the only sf novel to scoop all the major awards. 5 in English, including the Hugo, the Nebula and the British Sci-fi award!
-
Arthur C. Clarke died not long ago. He moved to Sri Lanka decades ago because he loved the place. I don't know anything about his private life, nor do I care. What matters to me is that one of his short story collections was the first sci-fi book I ever bought, and more importantly, that he was probably the best and most imaginative writer of hard-science fiction that there has been.
At least three of his novels are among my all-time favourite books, counting books of all categories.
-
Cheers Lance! :)
Yeah! I guess it's just rumours then. Good! Coz Arthur C Clarke wrote sci-fi which had me totally missing meals ... and sleep! :) Any author that can capture my imagination to the point of self neglect - :rock's
Isaac Asimov - was a true master of sci-fi too. The 'Robot' collection is just a masterpiece! 8)
