Hello everybdy I'm back

Having said that, what with Fury and everything, if the general concensous is that we should postpone til another time so people can have fun with Fury, that's fine by me.

You know what to do ;) Challenge away :g
That's an order :twisted

Hello, I see some things on this forum who tell me there are some people interested in a team competition.
Remember you this doubles ladder.
I have the idea to relaunch this competition with some arrangements, in order to supple the rules.
- Teams can contain from 2 to 9 pilots.
- Pilots can't join several teams at same time.
- Each month, a team can change 1 or 2 player(s).
- Each team can play with 2, 3 or 4 players, regardless number of opponents.
- No rules for team composition : national, ship addicted (eg Icaras team), or just friends, like you want.
New tournaments :
The HD Campaign Tour : 8 HD tracks forward
The Fury Campaign Tour : 8 Fury tracks
The No Campaign Tour : 8 HD tracks reverse
The Forward Tour : 12 tracks forward
The Reverse Tour : 12 tracks reverse
Enduro Tour : 3 free-choice races of 20 laps
You can play with or without weapons, Rapier tournaments are possible, you can increase the number of laps by race (I think 5 in Rapier & 7 in Phantom are good choices).
Designation of winners when the two teams haven't the same number of players.
Team A with 2 players, Team B with 3 or 4 players : Team A score the sum of his two players. Team B score the sum of his two best players at the end of the tournament. (and not the sum of the 2 best in each race)
Team A with 3 players, Team B with 4 players : Team A score the sum of his three players. Team B score the sum of his three best players at the end of the tournament. (and not the sum of the 3 best in each race)
So, have more players than his opponent can give an advantage, but it's not irremediable.
When the teams have same number of players, all their points count.
The draws are possible.
I have no real idea for the ranking system. We can keep actual Elo system, or create a real championship, (win = 3 points, lose = 1 point, draw = 2 points), during two or three months, with play-off or final for 4 or 2 best season teams (depending of number of teams).
With these more flexible rules, it will be easier to organize meetings & tournaments.

I'd like to see something like this happen kaori. Playing single races gets a little repetitive after a while. I think we need to find a way to make the game a bit more interesting. I think a lot of us want to keep playing, but struggle to find anything new these days, especially when we're more of the copying type than the pioneer type (i.e. me).
The doubles ladder was a reasonable success, but I do think it was only a small number of teams who really kept it going for a while. Organisation is a big issue. It's usually one dedicated person that does the organising. Having only 4 players to worry about made it a little easier than full matches.
Another thing that I think made doubles enjoyable, was that there was less carnage, due to the lower number of players. There were less weapons flying around and less negative effects from lag etc. As well as meaning races resembled something closer to racing, it also meant people felt less hard done by when they lost. You didn't really have to worry about that side of things - you just had to race your arse off. I think EPSILON's ASTRAL went very well for quite some time. Then interest started to fade and I think it may have been partly because there was just too much carnage.
What you're suggesting sounds good to get more regular team games. I like your ideas. Having a large squad and any number of players able to play would be good to make it flexible. There are a few minor issues though. For a 3 v. 2 type game, one team would essentially have 50% more firepower and I think this would have a great effect on the outcome.
I was thinking though, what if we were to do something that did not require a preset team at all? What if we just had a weekly time when e.g. doubles matches happened. We could setup up a chatbox and people could join and just partner up and race another random team. Maybe an ELO system could still be used and players could be ranked as individuals, based on their team working skills, taking into account both the team score and individual score (so that team mates don't just start shooting each other at the end, if they're already way ahead :P). We could say that players shouldn't be with the same partner more than once, e.g. within a certain time frame. This would prevent anyone pair from going together each week and dominating together. Maybe we make that time frame the 'season' and declare a winner at the end. Matches could be short, so even if only four people turned up one week, they could play in one pair and then switch round and do another tournament. I think this could work well for a casual and fun league, perhaps. I guess it could be difficult as well in some ways, e.g. if loads of people wanted to take part then it could get difficult organising it on the spot. But I suppose we wouldn't know that until we tried.
I see the advantages as these:
- Minimal players needed to get a match going=sustainable
- Easy organization - just turn up at the same time(s) each week(end) and see who's in the chatbox
- Less carnage and adverse lag effects
- Competitive, but not dominated by any one in particular
- Get to know new people by playing on a team with them
Maybe as a further idea, we could do a short season and then match the top players with the bottom players and then create a short knockout tournament of some kind.
Anyway, I'll stop now. I'm playing the game as I type this, so apologies if it's a bit muddled. I just wanted to throw some ideas out there and maybe help to drum up some interest. I think we need it. :)
-
signing up for the rebirth of the legendary double ladder. Hope we'll be more than 3 though.
-
Can do a 1 vs 7 too then? :D
-
Are you volunteering for that Conna? :P
Actually that'd be awesome! Like trying to run away from a pack of hunters, but WOHD style :nod
-
7 on 1 Vartazian hunt fest was already arranged... no?
-
-
I'm sure we could come to some sort of arrangement ;)
Connavar can be the guinea pig for suggesting the idea to us :g
-
This is pretty interesting, I think it would be great to revive doubles. Maybe current teams can send players to doubles matches? Rezatron team with me lol.
-
I really enjoyed the doubles nights but I think my partner has retired from playing now mostly due to the adverts. The game needs something injected in to it as the only interest at the moment for me is the TT/SL comp.
