Btw, how does everyone manage their brs on sol 2 in ZBs ?
Hey Paul Denton, i raced with you in ZB sometimes. Keep up this nice mode so we still can play it nowadays.
Hahaaa, 63!!! :o
I didn't know if it was possible but I was sure that if anyone got there it would be you or Jan. Superb effort Denton, this beer's on me :beer
Hah, everything is possible with a lil' bit of lag ;) 63.1 is probably doable on a *very* laggy session, but good luck lagging enough and timing it, I've only seen 55.1s on my screen for traces amount of time twice^^
Cyberio (and others), if you want a game, don't hesitate to ask if you see me online, I'm always up for a little bit of zb ;)
I was actually asking about Sol 2 because I don't really know what would be the best way to actually perform the brs (in the prospect of winning instead of fooling around :P). I think on the first two laps, it'd be best to hit all the speed pads and hit the first right wall to get a br off (ala flash). Afterwards, one is too fast to do that but still has hp left (~60 or 20). You can do a (ss-)br on the second right wing but it makes you miss a pad, potentially two since you oughta hit one upon landing, which is hard at 40+. So I dunno if it's worth it considering 2pads+br=3pads+epsilon and pad+br<3pads Worse thing, is that it give you less margin to your lines, so when I tested it, I kept running into barriers at 40+. I accidentaly managed a course which enable a double BR, but it has pretty much the same problem and is kinda crazy to pull off :lol I don't exactly remember it but I think it was something like quitting the track on the left, bring above the first wing, crossing the track, BRing above the right wing.
tl;dr (2 flash BRing+BRing above the right wing while <40)=best solution ? Anyone up for trying to TT it like that ? :)
Another question : has anyone got a consistent method to br on sol 2 rev save for hitting the walls at 40+ ?
Oh and we also tried some "Airbraker" ZBs (like the trophy name, ie using only aribrakes) with Ragsus yesterday (with a couple of random noobs to spice things up :) ). Easy as **** on syncopia, kinda hard on CP^^ I expected to fare a little worse, but that wasn't so bad. Ragsus masters cornering using only brakes so well it's not even funny :P Anyway, we somehow forgot to test that on SC and we definitely need to try some airbraker spam APf (the ss "cooldown" will be kinda problematic :lol ). I think we can forget about airbraker spam ubersplit forward though XD
EDIT: I totally forgot to test the boost br under the wing tho. Oh well, till next week if jan or someone else doesn't get right to it with pics or a vid to boot :)
EDIT2: Well I couldn't resist^^ It's a bit easier than in SRs actually, and failure is less punishing (easier to stay in-bounds). The classic boost double-br sounds impossible tho. Maybe it is possible to do it without boost @45+. I've got a fairly clean pic @31. I've also managed an awesome recovery once by boosting through the underbelly of the track O_o Anyway, here are the pics :)
New record in Zone mode on Syncopia. Final Zone: 94, Final Score: 299,695
Good effort Light Buster.
And nice work Denton. I've never tried the boost under the wing on ZB, can't imagine it's easy to control. Can't answer any of your questions I'm afraid, I just don't think that hard about it to be honest. Probably explains why you kick my arse with such ease. Nice pics though :)
When do you guys normally play? I'm in the EST zone but could pretty much play whenever during my evening. I've only ever seen one zone battle room and it was hosted by a Japanese player. ZB is the most fun versus mode, though. No need getting frustrated over poor pickups 'cause zone 40+ is Hell on everybody.
I'm usually online most evenings. The time varies but any time from about 5pm GMT to about midnight GMT. And at the weekends I'm on at various times. I don't host that much ZB because it's difficult to get a decent room going, but very easy to jump in a Rapier SR room. But if there were more ZB players around I'd happily play more.
Saturday evenings for me exclusively. I'd play more, but that's what col said, it's not that easy to get a good room going. Truth to be told, it only happens when I come across col, ragsus or a potential zber in the chatbox^^ I'd be glad to play if you can make it around those times ;)
@Col : it's not exactly easy, but certainly less frustrating than doing it in phantom SLs and waaaaay easier to recover from a mistake. The only problem being the barriers accumulating under the wing. It's still purely cosmetic though, and most of the other things could be theorically better. In the end it always come down on catching all the pads ;) Even if the average zb level was as refined as the SR's level, I'm not sure if people would be considering these things since the gain seems kinda ridiculous.
I'm also likely to do some Zone Battles if any of you guys are online; not many people play this mode, so make sure you enjoy it as best as you can. :)
And by the way, Denton, you don't know how many times I was bouncing against the walls, especially at Cheghou Project, when we were doing our "only airbrakes" zone battling. I'm not that good with them. :g
This is my Zone Run on Syncopia before I beat this run again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn6K4Q2boNA
So I only started playing this game once it was offered during Sony's Welcome Back program. I have to say, Wipeout HD is a ton of fun. It's quite challenging and there's a lot of replay value.
Of all the modes this game has, I find myself playing Zone the most often and Zone Battle a fairly close second. Unfortunately, there aren't many Zone Battlers online. Anyway, I have a few questions about Zone:
1. I've read that all the ships handle the same in Zone mode, but I don't think this is true. Which ships do you tend to recommend or not recommend when it comes to Zone? I've made it to Zone 106 on Syncopia with Goteki 45, but I've gotten more perfect laps with Mirage until around Zone 80 when I can't keep a consistent line. Some of the ships clearly turn more easily than others, even in Zone.
2. If you screw up a perfect lap, is it still worth it to attempt a barrel roll, or should you just save your ship energy because you won't be recovering any until you can attempt another zone up to 10 seconds later?
3. How can you prevent a small crash from causing you to pinball down the track? Ideally, I'd scrape or clip a wall and be able to move on, but sometimes I end up bouncing and ricocheting left and right, causing me to lose 30-40 ship energy.
4. Are there any dedicated Zone Battlers here that wish to add me? I may have seen a few of you online, but I am not yet elite when it comes to this. My PSNID is Zzonkmiles.
5. My strategy with Zone (on Syncopia) is to get as many barrel rolls as possible at the lower speeds (and reduce myself to maybe 25-30 ship energy) and then restrict myself to one barrel roll per lap once I reach Super Phantom. Then I can slowly recover my ship energy. Is there a better way to get more points?
Thanks for any help, and hope to see some of you on the track.
Hi there. In answer to your questions:
1. It's been debated before, and never really resolved as far as I know. Some people feel there is a difference, others swear they're all the same. Personally I feel a slight difference, and tend to use Feisar or Harimau for all tracks.
2. It's a matter of confidence. If you reckon you'll claw back the energy with a perfect zone then go for it. It's just experience that will teach you these judgement calls.
3. Sometimes it's impossible, but there are a few things you can try to right yourself. You can sideshift off the wall on impact then steer in the opposite direction, but it's really an intuitive move that I do, you'll figure out your own ways to stop pinballing with practice.
4. There are a few on here. I play quite a bit of ZB, I'll send you a friend request with my Erik_Ponti account.
5. Not really. Barrel Roll as much as possible. I get my energy down to pretty much zero and keep it there as long as I dare, then gradually ease up on the BRs until I have full energy, before it gets tough and I know I'll start crashing.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Zone's quite a visceral thing, the more you play the more natural it will feel, and you'll then start to improve rapidly. Good luck, and keep Zoning :)
hey there, let me give my 'senf dazu'
3. if u start to pinballing all over the track at HIGH speeds, try to anti-countersteer...that means you've to steer into the same direction you chrashed into the wall. let's say you crash into the right wall, steer right on impact and you should be able to stabilise your ship.
4. im always up for ZB
5. my way:
first lap = 3BRs => 2BRs/lap up to the first lap of Super-Phantom => from now up to Sub-Sonic 1BR/lap interrupted by 2BRs/firstLap whenever entering a new zone class => 1BR/lap up to Super-Sonic => 1BR/2laps until death ;)
Does anyone know how fast you can go in zone mode using anulpha pass glitch? some guy got zone 3,336. How many KPH is that!
Thay "guy" is the one who replied just before you. :P He might forgot the top speed he reached, but I'm not sure. What about an accurate answer from Jan?
2399km/h as you can see here http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/sho...omEnEss/page67 last post.
im NOT the guy on the leaderboards, cause im always playing with an offline-only account when im doing this!
On my zone 123 I got 1,783 KPH. Ryuga got 2,134 KPH on zone 183. By that pattern 2,400 KPH would 'only' be about zone 220-230. Did you ever get near top speed because you would have to exit the glitch right? Those boost pad numbers are insane. That glitch isnt great for loyalty boosting though. I can get 4,000 loyalty in a 20min run, 12,000 per hr and you got 17,000 in over 9.5 hrs!
Also is 10 million points possible, why does the run end?
just to clarify, my intention in doing these 'runs' wasn't to get loyalty points. it was my believe to reach the final zone-class (Mach2 or Hyper-Sonic), the glitch was just a tool i used to achieve my goal. unfortunately there's no zone-class after Super-Sonic, but without my research i wouldn't know for sure.
Haha yeh ok. Shame there is no extra class
Even though Syncopia is my main Zone track, I've started experimenting with some of the others. The three hardest tracks for me BY FAR are Ubermall reverse, Modesto Heights reverse and Pro Tozo. Whether it's zone or racing mode, I am downright AWFUL at those tracks. I wish I could attempt speed laps on Pro Tozo. Maybe if I try zone battles and never boost, that might be as close as I can get.
Try using the early zones to take the most perfect line you can, eg taking corners really wide to get you in to position for the next more tricky ones. Getting used to it at slower zones should train your brain/hands to give a better instinct for the faster zones. Doing something as simple as telling yourself "ok this corner should be easy if I can place my craft here before it" really helped me.
Anyone done a barrel roll on Mallavol? Iv had the opportunity a few times. If you crash into the wall just before triple chicane at a really high zone you can fly up into the air and barrel roll!
I just set a new score of 311,000 on Syncopia. I'm so excited. But I can tell that it's a lot harder to move up the leaderboard now. I guess 300,000 is a dividing line between a good zone player and a really good one. An average run for me now is 90-something zones. A good run puts me in the low 100s. I think I can do a little better, but the racing line keeps shifting. I seem to have better results with Auricom and Harimau than the other ships. Feisar was a disaster.
OMG. I just had an AMAZING run on Syncopia. I ran a 108/87 and got 338,655 points. This put me at #57 worldwide and one rank higher than the legendary Colonel Gaddafi! I saw a 106/89 run that was even higher ranked than I was, so the secret is clearly getting perfect laps and barrel rolling consistently. I had all perfect zones and perfect laps until I scraped a wall for the first time at Zone 68. I guess I just found the right racing line and couldn't stop. I remember getting a few perfect laps well into the 90s and maybe even one at 102. I did die a painful death though. I hit a wall at a 90-degree angle and went airborne. I got disoriented and couldn't recover. But I am so pumped. If Super Ryuga still plays this game, he had better watch out! (By the way, I saw a 118/17 run on the leaderboard. How the heck did THAT happen?)
LONG LIVE THE ZONE!!!
Attachment 6668
Sorry Miles, but that score is an old one. My current score can be found on Connavar's ranking site here: http://www.wipeoutrankings.com/. Feel free to keep calling me legendary though :g
SuperRyuga does still play, he just beat the corridon 12 WR today. My best on syncopia is 280,000 with 92/71, Im not great on that track by any stretch.
if there's some interest here, i'll upload a few short videos tomorrow, showing the highest speeds ever shown on video ;)
zone 100+ / 200+ / 360+ / 500+
Sure I'd love to see it ;)
Lets see 3000 XD
When do you get that color scheme? Which zone? I never got that far...
@docfo4r: supersonic theme for all standard race tracks. 75onwards
@Solid: 3000+ = immediate death :)
Really? Lol, supersonic looks simply white when I play :!
supersonic theme for PRO TOZO - MALLAVOL - CORRIDON 12 - SYNCOPIA is whitish
supersonic theme for all other tracks is blackish
Oh, that explains it. Only got that far on the first four you mentioned...
thanks jan XD, thats some crazy ****. Supersonic is yellow on the pure 4. I have zone 90 plus on those.
Thanks very much Jan for those videos. :) That's some serious speeding!
I recently cracked 350,000 on Syncopia. I believe it was a 109/88 run. Since I've started concentrating more, I'm typically able to make it to Zone 75 with no fewer than 5 imperfect laps, if even that many. I'm having a hard time finding the racing line once I hit Zone 105 or so. The farthest I've ever made it was Zone 115, but the score wasn't as high. I'm also finding Auricom to be the best craft for me to use in zone mode.
I have also started experimenting on other tracks and I can't do well on them at all. The only one I've hit Mach 1 on is Anulpha Pass. And I've hit Subsonic on Anulpha Pass-reverse. Tracks like Sebenco Climb, Ubermall, Sol 2, and Modesto Heights are a nightmare. I haven't even hit Zen on those tracks yet.
If there's one regret I have, it's that I didn't find out about this game until Sony's "Welcome Home" promotion after their servers got hacked. Seems like I found this game on the tail end of its popularity. This is really a fun game to play and I probably have even more fun offline than online. I absolutely LOVE zone mode, but I HATE it when I am at Supersonic and am forced to pause the game. (I had to do that earlier today and got a game over shortly there after. Wanna see an 83/75 run on Syncopia? Just tell me to pause the game at Zone 80!)
Oh, and I was able to add one of the top people on the leaderboards yesterday. I'm so excited. He's got great records and is whipping me on every track except Syncopia. This is keeping the pressure on me to up my game!
Add me too zonk :). Im at 280k on syncopia
Sure, I'll add you. It'll be great having people on my friend list who inspire me to push myself harder and faster. My PSN ID is Zzonkmiles. I mainly play Zone offline (typically Syncopia, but I play other tracks too), though I sometimes play Zone Battle and Detonator. I rarely do time trials, so I can't offer much competition there. Heh.
As for Syncopia, one thing that helped me increase my score from the 275,000 range to the 325,000 range is maxing out the barrel rolls and perfect laps on the lower speed classes. I used to keep my ship energy full or nearly full even at speeds like Sub-Rapier. But since those zones are easy to get perfect laps on, there's no need to keep all that energy. So I max out the barrel rolls until I hit Super-Phantom and then do one BR per lap while I slowly get my ship energy back. Once I hit Mach 1, I'll do a BR every other lap or twice every three laps. That's really helped my score. Now I hit 200,000 around Zone 57 or so on most runs.
