psh, easier said than done :p
if i switch to the D pad, i usually slam into a wall before i get back to the stick to maintain my curve :p
it's hard, pretty much gave up on consequent barrel rolls ^^

I have spent a lot of time recently on my favourite track Tech De Ra (forward and reverse) doing SL and TT on venom class. I have set some top 5 times but I wonder if these would be faster pre-patch 2.5....? I have heard from a couple of top pilots that it is harder to set ultra fast times post 2.5 patch.
Now no disrespect to those pilots with a World Record, I have the greatest respect for you believe me!, but I wonder if it is now impossible to beat some of those times. Just an example, I have a couple of videos on youtube - see below - where I even get an extra BR than the legend Texasalex. Now, this could well be because my lines are nowhere near tight enough and that is true, but I just wonder how much of an impact the patch has on times.
Many of you will just say .4 of a second can be lines/ss in the right place but when it comes to the top 5 0.4s is a long time.
I am only putting this out there because I have always dreamed of a World Record on Wipeout and if the post patch thing is significant then I might have to give up and just play for fun online. But, if not and world records have been set recently post patch then I will keep the faith! :)

^what do you think made it harder since the patch? AFAIK they didn't change anything to the racing part
(or did they?)

I will never understand why pilots that are so skilled don't fight for a Phantom record but for a Venom one.
As I said, you are skilled, a lot more that I am ... and your videos are truly impressive ... just WipEout is a racing game mates, not an acrobatic show.
Actually, there should be a "Freestyle" mode in the game where pilots could earn points doing crazy things!
EDIT : I remember Yeldar saying that it would be harder to set a new WR after the patch yes. I didn't install it yet, but I'm far for competing for a WR ... I used to fight for a top 100! :|
I very like this video, congratulation !)
Apparently after the patch cornering/turning is slightly slower. I will message some WR holders who still are around (SoA_Booney, Tesaxalex, JFthebestJan, Bazzman, etc, etc.) and see if they know the exact "physics" of the patch affect.
With regards to trying to get a WR on venom and flash, they are the speeds I am most familiar with so experienced on so I am more likely to get a top time at those classes. But I am starting to race at the higher speeds!! :)

Reply from the legend Booney:
"Times are significantly tougher post patch mate, even if i keep the lines as similar to my ghost as possible ot still pulls away, this is mainly on the corners because of the slight change in airbrake dynamics to prevent a glitch that was used in a few speedlaps, such aa moa therma. the times you are getting now would be very close to the wr before the patch in my opinion, just keep working hard ;) hopefully we could have some races soon, be safe, SoA"
I will keep trying!!
would it make any sence to delete the patch 2.51 retroactively??
you can simply reinstall wipeout hd game data. don`t install the latest 2 patches and you have the faster version of the game, but no online and your scores wont upload.
I gotta be able to go online though! Half the fun of Wipeout. I will keep going as I am and hopefully pull off something special. Just got #3 Anulpha Reverse multi race on venom so must be doing soemthing right! :)
Hey, nice vids. I haven't played 2.5X, but if I may be critical, I think I can still help. Don't think I'm calling you bad (I'm certainly not!), it's very hard to be "perfect" with these things!
There are a couple of general things I think you could touch up that would improve your overall play - yes, this relates to your lines. On both tracks there are a few times where you turn too hard by taking a non-optimal line, particularly the last corner of TDR<, probably because you're having difficulty getting the ship in a position you can handle - you should try and look for a better way to maintain your speed.
Also very noteworthy, I think you also try to create dramatic looking sideshifts unnecessarily. You don't need to go wide just to make it look like you're executing a sideshift "to full effect" - it's just taking you off your line, in a number of circumstances on both > & <. It can be difficult to get the best line, and sometimes the best line is a bit staggered in WipEout HD, but the fact that the fastest path between two points is a straight line is still an important thing to remember :P While sideshifts do speed you up, you need to find a way for that to benefit your line or they will be a waste, so I think your could do some work to refine how you approach that. Again, nobody's perfect at it, but the goal is to pursue that anyway :P I noticed this is an issue Colonel could really work on as well after watching a vid he uploaded recently.
Specifically, on TDR<, in that vid I noticed the following things which could be improved (at least in my opinion): The first corner. Possibly the toughest first corner to nail properly in the game, but alas, it could probably do with slightly better execution. Secondly, the use of the right-hand side rails may make it easier to pull the BR's off, but I think they are slower than the method I use in my vid - they're (much) further from the racing line, and as seen in your vid, make it a bit harder to reach the double speedpad side of the tunnel. The rest is solid, other than the racing line issues I mentioned above, particularly on approach to the tunnel after the long right hand turn at the hill's peak and the approach to the final/starting tunnel for the boost.
On TDR>, again other than the line issues mentioned including a possible slow manoeuvre into the the first BR, I think you did really well. Until you chose to go for the extra BR... Well firstly, you missed the speedpad after the boost-BRBR, but other than that - I know it sounds like a good idea on paper, but it's a funny one, this - the track is sloped towards the edge, and by executing the BR there, I think you sacrifice some centrifugal energy, too much speed by hitting the wall, and the optimal racing line over the speedpad. It usually ends up being a touch slower than just following the racing line without the BR. I tried it a fair bit when I got the #2 ages ago (is it still #2?) and yeah, I found it actually worked against me.
Regarding the 2.5X speed issue, it's one of the reasons why I have not been tempted to play the game in over a year now, and makes it unlikely that I will update the game if I ever do; but it's not the first thing the devs have done that has made people say "but no time currently set can be beaten now" - for those that remember the furor over BSB. It may make things harder, but I'm pretty sure every single BSB record has been broken except on the tracks where it's still possible.
You seem to be doing pretty well though, hopefully my advice helps! Good luck :)
Trust me mate, don't update. Just enjoy TT/SL as they are. Records can be broken yes, but when the starting point is 0.4s slower per lap before refinement, it does mean you have to be that much better. Also certain advanced manoeuvres involving sideshifts (SS-BRs, SS-Boosts) are now impossible since the update, meaning you have to find even more time elsewhere. It's possible yes, but I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.
Nice advices :)
Amplificated and Yeldar - thanks for your advice and information. This is really appreciated and I respect you both so much.
I will keep at it and maybe (just maybe) I will get that WR. Then I might be able to sleep happy :)
I also need to start practising Rapier and Phantom - had a quick go last night and it is like a different game!
ok, and how do i delete patch 2.51?
i downloaded that game because sony provided it after the mess with the psn datas.
im scared that i delete it completely and have no chance to download it again.
Amplificated, wow! That's the most detailed, insightful and helpful analysis of a video I've read, positive rep given (if anyone has skipped it, go back and read it, it's brilliant).
It genuinely made me laugh though - you were talking about over dramatic SSs, sacrificing lines, and it kind of reminded me of the way I play. Next sentence - "I noticed this is an issue Colonel could really work on ". When you take it to the level you're talking about, it's quite inspirational, and reminds me how high the ceiling is on this game. On behalf of us all, thanks mate.
@scarfrogers : man, you managed to get in TOP5 in slow classes, no doubt you can be a great player in Phantom too! Maybe not top 5 (maybe yes!), but you don't need to be the fastest in the world to have fun ;)
Hi PILOTS.
After a while of playing, quit, playing, quit, playing Wipeout HD i wanted to make a Funvid with all Wipeout HD tracks.
It´s really a game where you can improve yourselve constantly.
What is Wipeout HD all about?
-Fun
-Success
-Improvements
-Misses BRs
-Beating Ghosts
-Damaged Thumb ;)
-And so on
and
Therefore, I play Wipeout HD
All vids were recorded within 1 day so don´t expect unbelievable ultimate BR combo World Record hunting skills ;).
I only like this game and want to show it with this video.

Impressive! :o
Yes tis very nice analysis. I wish people would ask for advice like this. Although it must be said (certainly at phantom speed) under the 2.51 handling there are places in which compromise to line is required in order to maintain speed through the corner, as opposed to previously where (BR-depending) the shortest distance was always fastest. It's a tad more like a conventional 'driving' game now with the new airbrake actually. It's quite hard to figure out, given that every corner is different, the approach and exit are very important, and knowing whether or not and how much to compromise the 'old' racing line in order to maintain your speed is tricky, especially when your muscle memory is hardwired into the old handling. Just a little something I was thinking.
TH4YA1, that's amazing. After all these years I've not seen half of that. Hats off to you mate :+
... and yeldar, well said.
