Wipeout HD Fury - Equilibrium Tournament

Ok pilots, Resurgence is only 3 months any on December 7, 2013 and so far we have 19 participants. I'm hoping more pilots

will join up and race along with us, please if you're an active player, pass Equilibrium along to other pilots. Also keep in mind that this

tournament is flexible, giving you a week to race and gather

your results to send to me.

Conzio - If pilots want they could put it to a vote, I just wanted different circuits to make this tournament stand out
and be different but if it would make thing confusing then we could narrow it down to one.

To get deep for a second, WipEout (Not only this tournament) means a lot to me, giving us a prime futuristic racing game test our skills,

our wits, and our dedication to this game. Even though Studio Liverpool is gone, WipEout is still alive because our love keeps it alive.

Our love keeps the game alive and it stretches across all of our homelands and this world and when you think about it, that's a beautiful thing.

I'm not sure what 2014 looks like for WipEout, this could be one of the last WipEout tournaments ever or maybe it'll get another chance in

the gaming world but for 2013, let's just play, that's the only thing I wanna do everyone, just have a great and WipEout-filled tournament for

the love of it. I'm not expecting every single slot to be filled by December, or old legendary pilots to return back for this or show kind of

ultimate showdown between old rivals, (although that would be cool to see, especially with the xX333s all on one team, back to the point)

for this tournament, let's just play WipEout!!! It doesn't matter what happens later, for now, let's make this tournament great with our love for the game.

Now that SL is gone, and no new wipeout for the PS4, then this is all we got. There won't be any more, as far as we know.

I don't want this forum to slowly fade away from inactivity, this forum is really all there is left to do with WipEout.
This isn't a competition, this is a reunion. Where pilots from all around the world come together to play, as a community.

Let this tournament be a memorable one.

Just practicing with some of the reverse variants of tracks and getting pretty good progress.

Also that was quite inspirational DefJunkie16, it got me all enthusiastic. It's true that we need to keep thinking about now and how we're going to make this the best tournament ever. But what I don't understand is that everyday I keep seeing more and more pilots out on the tracks online so how and why we can't have more events like this? Maybe not as grand or well thought out but still, a community thing. We could start making more videos, writing more fan fictions, getting back to the old WipEout games etc. There's no way in hell I or anyone else is going to let this place just fade away without any fight.

I had to buy one recently John. Was going to get it from Amazon but worrying reviews of the "official" DS3s on sale via Amazon so I bought it from Sainsbury's. Sorry I know that's not much help but I thought it worth mentioning that Amazon are selling DS3s that many people claim to be fake.

my 1st controller's air breaks went derp, they keep sideshifting when holding them down, making it unreliable to fly with, and the other one's vibration died, which is sooooooo annoying, as i don't get that confirmation of hitting a wall, getting a speed pad, yada yada :P
and…. i've started chopping my sticks apparently; the stick where the circle thing sits on is being carved out as if you were chopping a tree with an axe lol xD, already 3 milimeters deep ring round …

i hope they'll still sell these things when the PS4 hits the shelves and hope the price drops a bit, because they're way to overpriced...

I've got an idea if we don't have enough pilots to fill up all the teams in the long run..

We could remove the idea of each team being dedicated to one ship, so we could gather all the pilots that we have and put them into teams that will have enough players in each one, as well as each teammate can vote among their team a team name (e.g. Team Rampage)

Just an idea.

@Conzio, Im not too sure that would work IMO. Its going to be hard enough not hitting other team members in the same ship, never mind if they become mixed. Just my opinion. Im not sure it would work.

Hm, I have another idea with the 'hitting your teammates' issue.
When registration has finished, maybe each person makes a new PSN account with their username as follows: TEAM--username
Using me as an example: ASSEGAI--theconzio

It would be easier for pilots to recognise their teammates and rivals on the track, without having to study their ship when flying past or remembering who's on their team and who isn't, when they're flying near you.

That could work better but we would have to get every single person in the whole tournament to make another acc/ which is pretty hard. Or make sure that every single person in every team knows off by heart who their team mates are (which would be a little easier imo).

I'm still not a 100% caught up with the rules of this tournament, but you could just simply use a point system with duels where you make your way up to semi-finals and finals, and where each stage of duels gives a specific amount of points

eg
1st ranking battle; 1 point awarded for a win for your team
2nd ranking battle; 2 points
3d ranking battle; 3 points

etc etc

The amount of ranks depending on how many players there are

And eventually you add up all the points for the individual teams and divide it by the amount of players in that team to have a fair comparison

Maybe we could only use like 4 teams at the most? I'm pretty sure everyone here has a secondary ship so we could rule out all the teams with the least amount of participants and only use the most popular ones. Then we'd have more participants for certain teams so it'd be evened out and would serve as shortcut to get more people to join each team. Idk, just a suggestion.

Wow I didn't know I vanished Knux, sorry if I did but I've been keeping up with the postings and facebook group. Now as for Equilibrium, I hoped this tournament would have been bigger but it's an idea that became a reality and I've been trying to push the fact that after July this tournament became truly "our" tournament, meaning if anything happened everyone would be informed enough to continue without me (even though that would never be the case). Now due to low attendance which I have a procedure for, as AGSys mentioned the teams will be grouped together, teams with the lowest pilots will be grouped to the bigger ones. The pilots of those teams as well as the team members themselves will be notified. This process will be starting now to not push to the last minute. If you have any questions, I'm up here, on facebook, and PSN.

KANAR, who ran the world cup, wrote out a singular message and created a visual, he then gave each person in charge of a particular region the task of sending the message via PS3 and visual to everybody on their friends list, with the request that they pass on the same to all on their friends lists.
I suggest you work it the same way, it works.

Hell, I've got half a dozen of you on my friends list and not one of you have sent me a heads up or message via PS3 relating to this tournament.:|

All avid HD players, here's how to get it happening.

Have a pre written invitation/explanation about the tournament copied in your PSN keyboard thing, you know what I mean, so you can just paste the same message over and over again to people you RACE AGAINST WHILE PLAYING HD/FURY .... just use the PLAYERS MET section of your XMB ... at least you will know you are sending the message to a ACTIVE HD/FURY pilot

As for the RULES. [I've only just read them today, as clear as mud]
Well since the due by date has already come and gone, remove any reference to time and date on the opening pages.
Simplify them into round 1, and round 2.
Only specify round 1 till it is completed.

Once results are in, then specify what's to happen in round two.

Work it from there.

The thing is, you have to be brutely honest and ask youself, just how many pilots WILL play through the tournament?
Reason being that the PS4 would be in the hands of a lot of possible pilots at the time of the tournament.

From what I can gather, I would think that the group leader [Captain] for each racing team would PM you, either via the wipeoutzone or via PS3 messaging or hopefully both to make sure, what time the race will start [ BEST USE GMT ] so all can calibrate to that time if from different parts of the world.;)

Something to think about:

It's really good that we are getting the support for this tournament, but I'm a little concerned about which teams everyone is picking, considering the teamwork focus of the tourney.

Simply put, more people are picking one team than others and I;m concerned this would put teams with less pilots at a disadvantage to those with more (e.g. Triakis has one pilot where Icaras has 4). I chose Triakis instead of AG-S for this reason.

Should there be some sort of balancing in place so that every team should have an equal shot at victory?

I really could use a primer or a deeper explanation of how the tournament is played though, I mean I get the tournament thingy but are we playing in tournaments against a selected team 4 on 4 (if at all possible) or how does it work? (wasn't here for the last tournament if that is what the system is based on)

If you look at the grid, it will tell you who you are against. Your team, Mirage, will be racing against team EG-X on a date on about/around the 7th of December that the captain of your team or captain of the opposing team will announce.

Well considering the fact that I came up with this in January and made the thread in February and now it's December, I say no. The date is this Saturday and tomorrow night ETime I'll be grouping teams automatically evenly, if you are on one team and you are the only person on it then that means you. If you want to request a team, write which team you'd like to be switched to but it has to be even.

To Mitchemous: On Thursday I'll be creating separate threads in the pilot's lounge with the topics as the two teams that will go head to head. In those threads, each team member of the two competing teams will:

Let everyone know they're still in the tournament
Come to a final decision on the time they would like to compete
and vote for the circuit they would like to go through.

Overall to make everything less complicated, but the reason I can't do that now because the final teams aren't made yet, they will be tomorrow night and possibly the following days if any team changes need to be made.

The New Grid has been posted up and as you can see FEISAR is already in round 2, the reason being is because there are only 7 teams available to play and one team would have to advance. Now for the teams with 5 players, if anyone could find one more player to be a part of Equilibrium, then we could take 3 players from the teams with five and add them all together into a inactive team (auricom, qirex, traikis, etc) then it would be 8 teams and even. But for now the only way we could go about this is having a customized set of pilots to participate in each round.

Defjukie; i wouldn't change anything about equilibri at this point in time, personally i also think 5 tracks is enough seeing as that will take approximately around 30 minutes per round, give or take 10 depending on technical issues /everyone's presence and what not, but changing it now would make it a bit confusing i think ;)

missed that ;), though seeing as it already started i don't think that'll still be possible, instead i'd say everyone joins in at the planned time/date, so if someone doesn't make it, they have an extra pilot, and if all 5 pilots are there, they can decide in chat who's going to race, wouldn't make it overly complex by still shifting people into new team, if you do manage to pull it off before the end of the week, go for it though!

Anyway, the Gotekis didn't have the straight line speed or the finesse that the Harimaus did. If we were racing on phantom with weapons, things might have been different... (Goes and destroys the nearest Harimau with a Plasma) :P

And on that Sebenco Endurance race, I was literally at 1 shield energy for about six laps (Stupid controller/sticky stuff!)! My controller was pretty much making me do unintentional BRs that failed for a lot of the race.

Good race, and I had a really close battle with Knux when I was at 1 shield. Thank god Knux didn't kill me...

Looks like Scar is in for round 2 (whenever that may be). I just couldn't quite find my groove. Overall I think I placed 3rd or 4th (I think there was a tie) in the overall event and Scarfroggers always seems to beat me by 3-5 seconds on average, so we should be in great shape. Hopefully things will go smoother on Rapier. I think I kept trying for Barrel Rolls I can't get at slower speeds etc etc...

@ DDD113, while I usually agree with you, there is no way I would want to go up against the likes of MurcielagoMLRZ (I can't remember the rest of his screen name). FEISAR may be slower, but good FEISAR pilots know their racing lines much tighter than other pilots. For example, on Moa Therma reverse, I have to airbrake and sideshift in my Icaras, but when I tried a TT in a FEISAR (out of sheer curiosity) I didn't have to airbrake once.

Well, who knows? If it's phantom class in the Circuit from Hell, then there's almost no doubt that FEISAR would surely kick the crap out of those Icarases (Icarai?). However, if it's the Technical Circuit, then things might get a bit more interesting. However, if it's the Grand Circuit, then it might turn out to most likely be an Icaras victory.

By the way, team Icaras, would everyone be ok with doing the grand circuit for round 2? I need to know so I can know which tracks to practice. I vote grand circuit for what its worth. Has anyone made contact with team FEISAR? I think because they got a free pass to round 2, that Icaras should have final say over the circuit selection!

@ Mike458, depending on the skill of the pilot, I might have to agree with you in part if it was on Phantom. However, round 2 is a Rapier class. Speed still has a slight edge over handling at Rapier (at least in my own humble opinion ^_^) Even at Phantom however, the only track that would cause a significant difference would be Sol 2. Chenghou is tough but manageable, that could go either way. Anulpha might as well be a Zone track, so Icaras gets the nod there. Both of the Modesto's are pretty easy to navigate (mainly because there is only one big turn that requires any braking, everything else is sideshiftable). Long story short, its really up to the skill of the pilots.

I guess we'll see!

Oh, another thought occurred too. I don't know how the organizers of the event had planned for the whole "ringer" and substitute thing to go, but Knux_Chaotix herself may actually be interested (she is a sponsor I believe). Since Goteki got eliminated in the first round, she won't have to worry about going back and forth between teams.

@ Agsys (or do you prefer CJ4717?) anyways... I'm only really worried about a couple of FEISAR pilots. The ones I've raced that I remember were elite, but it seems that FEISAR pilots are simply brilliant, or aren't at all (as in they are beginners or experts). There isn't much in between. Each team will have one or two elite players. On our team for example, I consider Scarfroggers an elite player. I don't mean to boast about myself here, but I consider getting a platinum trophy for this game as pretty elite (arcade perfect and elite campaign legend are no joke!). In fact, anyone that has a 75% or higher completion rating has to be a pretty skilled racer. So when someone can best me in a race by 4-5 seconds consistently, I consider them in an "super-elite" class of racers.

*Not to say that people that haven't got the plat trophy aren't skilled racers (and there are trophyless racers better than me for that matter). But I think we can all safely say that getting the trophy is a pretty good milestone for any up-and-coming pilot as there are only 3,383 players world-wide that have it out of 258,109 players that own the game (it is arguably the hardest PS3 trophy to get based on pure skill).*

That is one reason I like the team player motif: your greatest rivals truly become your greatest allies!

@TheConzio, I also know of TUSK_one that may or may not be interested. He isn't a Mirage pilot, but he still may be interested seeing as Team Icaras is full up and with a Ringer. Arok1982 may also be interested, but I haven't seen him online lately (also usually an Icaras pilot).

Truth is, I mostly know Icaras, Harimau, and Assegai pilots. I don't see too many Mirage, Qirex, or Auricom players. So most likely anyone I know would be a pilot used to a different ship.

Oh, one additional stat about the above: of the 3,383 that have platinum, only 2,590 have 100%!

So those that have the game beat at 100% are mathematically speaking, in the top 1% or so.

Although this isn't set in stone yet, Scar may be in for the next round. I don't know who originally was a reserve pilot or who was what seat, I just know for certain that I plan to be in round 2 and hopefully round 3 should Icaras advance. At this point I guess I'm saying that it looks like Team Icaras still has 4 active members and a potential reserve pilot. I don't know the status of the other teams.

That being said, if Pontiac wants to switch teams, I think Icaras should be covered (it seems that Icaras pilots are much easier to come by compared to the other teams). Although Pontiac helped us win over AGsystems, at this point, anyone willing to fly a less popular team is greatly needed for the sake of tournament progression. I personally have no problem either way. I'm not the team captain, so don't take my word for it verbatim. But since Mirage needs an extra pilot, and getting a full lobby for the AG/Icaras was so hard to do at the last minute, I would say at this point to take any pilot that wanted in the match (this is assuming that both Ace and Pontiac were wanting to join Mirage) is fine by me.

I really like team based play as I think it suits the whole concept of flying for a particular team based on how one likes to race, but in the future I'd also like to see a team based event where team members can be from different teams (it would be an interesting strategic tournament to have a good shield, good handling, good top speed, and good acceleration ship all on the same team, as I think it would add some depth). I would also LOVE to bring back awarding points for each elimination in a regular race. Just a thought for any future events!

I will say that it is a good way to see if someone is a cheater or not as well as prove to others that you aren't. I generally just accept the fact that there are better pilots out there -and always will be. I don't personally blame anyone of cheating. I had someone blame ME of being a cheater online the other day. It was both annoying and weirdly flattering at the same time. They kept spamming messages like "I saw you fly off the track" and "stop cheating ***hole" after every race they lost in, so I sent them a message something to the effect of: "If you think I'm a cheater, have a look at my trophy list." After that they left after the next race without saying a word. *Just for clarification, the "fly off the track" one came from Sol2 at the start bridge. Often times the game doesn't render it properly for other racers. This is not the first time this issue has came up for me. I assure everyone on this thread that it isn't a glitch or a cheat, its just bad programming code. The same type of thing happens all the time if you spectate a race.

Most players online have an excellent attitude, and I'm not talking about the majority here. But every now and then there are some sore losers and bad apples in the bunch.

Be sure to note which circuit your team plans to run (there are 3). Remember that this is round 1 (or heat 1 if you prefer), so be sure to match up the appropriate speed when practicing.

Thanks for the guidance in how these are organized and played, best forum I've joined in helping members for sure. I got a few of the heat tracks in before I had to pack for a train to work. My morning was kinda spent checking out Slipstream GX

The first round was played on Venom speed. The 2nd round speed will be Rapier. There are 5 tracks to each circuit. So, for example, the default circuit for round 2 is a tournament as follows:

Race 1: Talon's Junction -Rapier
Race 2: Vineta K -Rapier
Race 3: Moa Therma -Rapier
Race 4: Modesto Heights <Reverse> -Rapier
Race 5: Tech De Ra -Rapier

Long story short, whatever circuit is decided on will be a "tournament" played at Rapier speed. If the Technical circuit is chosen, it will be a no weapons tournament on Rapier for the 1st four tracks with an additional 10 lap no weapons single race that essentially counts as the last race for that "tournament." I hope that helps to clarify!

we are starting the second round of the tournament this Saturday, Round One was really supposed to end when all the teams raced and finished getting their results but now it's this Saturday, Team Mirage Vs. Team Assegai are racing that day but soon after it's the winner vs. Harimau, (and by soon after, I mean within that week) I'm posting this on all of the threads too, but as soon as Assegai and Mirage finish their match and post the results, the winner will then be in the week of round 2 to face off against team Harimau.

Exactly, better quality, the main reason why I liked your songs because they had a certain vibe to them, a vibe that fits a lot of songs on that soundtrack, now if I put the remastered songs on, that would throw off the vibe and thus the pace and a lot of songs would sound out of place.
