Ozone #1 – Saturday 22nd October 2011

Ozone Social Group (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/group.php?groupid=81) - Go on, you know you want to ;)

Ozone Leaderboards (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArRl3YNE85fkdFhVazlVTU5CSklNajB4S1lHWEJVd FE)

With the apparent demise of Avalon, it seemed to novide and I that we were missing something. We thought it would be good to put our heads together and try to organise a social Wipeout HD gathering for everybody. And we do mean everybody, Wipers new and old, lightning fast pros and casual racers.

So on Saturday 22nd October we invite you to join us for a festival of speed. novide and I will be hosting a variety of rooms on PSN from 10.00am Saturday morning, hopefully carrying on until the early hours of Sunday morning. Basically until everybody’s safely tucked up in bed! The rooms we’ll be hosting are:

Phantom Single Race – traditional Grand Prix (All tracks, forward and reverse... one race with weapons, one without)

Rapier Single race – traditional Grand Prix

Flash Single Race – Weapons on

Zone Battle – 50 – 55 target, All tracks

Rapier Eliminator – variable targets, All tracks

We’ll also be putting together some team matches – doubles matches, 3vs3, 4vs4, Internationals etc.

And finally, we’ll be starting a brand new set of leaderboards for the Grand Prix races. Never topped a WOHD leaderboard before? Now’s your chance!

So please join us on Saturday 22nd. We’ll open a new PSN chat room for the event, but we’ll also be present in the other usual chatrooms throughout the day. And both of us will aim to get as much video footage as possible.

If the day’s a success, we’ll look to put it on regularly.

Thanks for reading,

Colonel__Gaddafi and novide :rock

I would love to participate. I need a break (not really :g) from Dark Souls and it's always a good time to play Wipeout.

What were you thinking for the international, Gadaffi? Poking Mediterrania and Poland together for a scrap?

it really is a very very simple design but I thought you might like a logo for this thing. so I made a few suggestions

This one being my favourite.(poster format) (http://media.wohdcup.sommarpojkarna.com/2011/10/ozone-logo2.png)

or this(stamp) (http://media.wohdcup.sommarpojkarna.com/2011/10/ozone-logomini4.png)

(pm me for the other suggestions and vector files if you want them)

Awesome Gadd and Novide. I hope many will attend so we can get this going. *thumbs up*

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys. Just to answer a couple of posts...

FirstDave - anybody can turn up. All the rooms will be Public, and everybody is welcome to invite any of their friends to race or to chat.

Chal - That would certainly be a good match, I guess we'll see who's up for it and work something out.

Oryx - you're a star, the logos are great. Unfortunately novide already has that side of things covered though. Thanks very much though :clap

If Poland doesn't want to play, Celtica's not had a crack at Mediterrania yet.

maybe a team match wouldnt be a bad Idea. haribo vs x for example

I'll jump in and give everyone else another ship to shoot at.

I'd dearly like to get a Harimau Vs... match done. Team Feisar have gone a bit quiet but I know R3 has a lot on at the moment.

I think we may have to see how it pans out on the day. If we get a good number of people turning up then all manner of matches will be possible.

Chal - yeah I'm up for having a bash against Mediterranea if Denton's around. We could really use a fourth pilot I reckon.

If Uber or Tarquin can make it we'll have a few more Scots on board. I'm afraid Team Qirex is a bit thin on the ground though.

If anyone could keep the rooms up until Sunday midday GMT or so, I'd love you join you guys, but it is asking a lot of the organizers and its not really fair... Gutted to miss out again.

Chall mate, we are always open for that kind of fun ;) Just let us now when, and we'll be there, even if that means "back from retire" ;)

Just had an idea, and I'd like to know what you guys think. What about a leaderboard for Zone Battle? Basically every ZB would be to 55 target, so as to standardise it. And each run would be timed, with the quickest finish placing top of the leaderboard.

It's not without it's problems I know, the two main issues I can see are a) getting very accurate times is difficult (although to within a second should be possible), and b) it's always more difficult to finish as quickly in a busy room than it is when there are just a couple of players. Mind you the same could be said of races I guess. Anyway it would be good to try to get some kind of quantitative reward for Zone Battle achievements.

Worth trying or not? :?

'zone battle trial' :D
great idea, but how to prove the times without video?
invite only races? 1vs1; 1vs1vs1; 1vs1vs1vs1;
team mode: 2vs2... combine the times of the team members

Colonel
17th October 2011, 03:40 PM
Well as far as Ozone is concerned I would record all the best times from the ZB that I hosted. Any rooms that other people hosted, the times would be accepted on a trust basis I suppose, same as times on the rankings website are.

I don't think we would have to limit it to invite-only, the rooms will all be open. I'm still unsure about it to be honest, I think I'll try it out though and see how we get on.

As far as the race rooms are concerned, I'll also be writing down the winner's name and time for each race, and I would ask that anybody who hosts rooms during the day does likewise. That way we don't lose any great times :)

Edit - thinking about it though, it would be good to get a team ZB event done on Saturday. You interesting in pairing up for the day Jan? We could do a 2vs2, each player picks 2 or 3 tracks and we do it on a points basis, like a tournament.

JFthebestJan
17th October 2011, 05:55 PM
sure, although i already know who the fastest is.... P_Denton

Colonel
17th October 2011, 06:41 PM
Yep, finishing at Mach 1 most of the time too :dizzy

By the way, Novide and I would like to invite 2 other Eliminator players to take us on in a 2vs2 on Saturday, who's interested?

LJtheZombie

I'll join you, Colonel, if someone doesn't mind teaming with me.

JFthebestJan
17th October 2011, 07:46 PM
i couldn't resist :)
some numbers:
zone battle 55 / novice AI / anulpha pss fwd
hit target zone after 1min36sec; 4.5 laps completed

LJtheZombie
17th October 2011, 08:14 PM
Sounds like a plan to me, Booney.

Archon
17th October 2011, 09:22 PM
Zone Battle Time trial seems weird. I always saw ZB as a balanced versus mode; not meant for speed but for simply placing 1st against others. I won't knock the idea, though! It would certainly require the strategy and precision of Zone or Time trials.

Saying I will definitely participate this weekend is like pin-pointing the end of the world, but I'll make a prediction of, "I'm in!" Harimau team race, Zone battles, Venom tournaments, Phantom tournaments... should be a great day at the races.

Colonel
18th October 2011, 04:15 PM
Cracking, so Novide and I will meet Booney and LJ at some point for a rocket-fest on Saturday.

I'd suggest each team pick 3 tracks i.e. we do 6 in total, and keep the target at a standard 280. We can add up the scores for each player and get totals for each team. That should make it long enough to get a pretty fair score, without dragging it out all night. I'm always open to alternative ideas though.

Oh and I've started an Ozone social group (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/group.php?groupid=81):g

JFthebestJan
19th October 2011, 03:44 PM
new idea, zone battle without barriers. it's like an automatically accelerating weapons off single race, starting from sub-venom and finishing @ phantom (maybe super-phantom). with the ability to regenerate ur health almost every time, it should be a barrelroll fest ;)

P_Denton
19th October 2011, 04:14 PM
barrelroll fest ? I don't really buy that. Sure, it gives you a slight boost, but nothing too fancy. And good luck getting to actually performing them. The craft sticks more to the track, so most brs require a speed above super phantom to be easily executable. Except for Syncopia (lol), APf (lol), CPf, sol 2 (borderline easy there), Ubermall f (not easy <30)... even if you find fancy tricks, I'm not sure how much you'll be sped up or slowed down thanks to air resistance too. You know when you take off in zone, you take off for good ;).

So mhm :)

JFthebestJan
19th October 2011, 05:32 PM
adam and i tested a bit, and it's quite funny. no room for mistakes. zone mode has to offer more BRs than u would think :)
zone target 55 = finish @ zone28
zone target 45 = finish @ zone23
zone target 25 = finish @ zone13

On behalf of novide and myself, massive thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday for the first Ozone event. Some great races and a good laugh all day. It ran for about twelve hours in the end, not bad going at all.

Thanks to everybody who hosted, and to those who joined the Ozone chat room. I tried to write down the names of all the people in the room, apologies if I missed anyone, and for any misspellings...

NOBU_the_spirigan, Oryx_Crake, Azurooth, SoA_Booney, LJTheZombie, erich123, PONTA012, JFThebestJan, oliver_fighter7, morfeo378, Constrictor4U, JazzyFact, Dark_Phantom_89, P_Denton, Ragsus_Maxima, R3BU5ER, DreamyElf, Metakraken, Javariko, Rennflint, fallingskye196.

Apologies for the lack of organised events during the day. It was my intention to try and organise a few things on the spot, which proved tricky with all that was going on. Next time we'll try and sort some things out in advance.

novide and I took on P_Denton and LJTheZombie in a 6 race Eliminator, congrats to Denton and LJ on a well earned and comprehensive victory. novide has the scores and the vids for this one. I felt very rusty indeed at Elims, so much so that I kept barrel-rolling for some reason :eek

I've collated the winning times (there are a few missing but hey-ho), they're on this spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0ArRl3YNE85fkdGtGUXM0RDVsNDNkZm1FUTRaYWVyV2c&output=html

I know novide has a few videos up already, mine will be up in a couple of days.

Once again thanks very much everybody. I'll have a chat with novide and we'll sort something out for November. Till then... :)

Ditto. ^^

By the way; for tomorrow, my video should be uploaded in my channel (it's quite long); I'll make sure I advise you.

UPDATE: The video is already uploaded. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-0IK2iI79w) It's quite long, so you won't get bored that easily. :P
And also, have a laugh at the few reactions of mine during my gameplay (no bad language). :g
