One point about the elims, and I don't know how adamant you are about this, but I would strongly recommend having hints off as a rule. Weapon hints really ruin an eliminator IMHO.

I've always found the lure of possible quick Bling Brigade switch of skins usually is enough to get them in.;)

Plus it's a long weekend in Aus [22nd to 26th] as the 25th [ANZAC day also my birthday] is also a public holiday here.

Well, the idea is that it's free to run from 0000GMT all the way to 2359GMT on Saturday. But we may shift it a little bit so that our friends across the pond can get some fun in as well, and I can get some sleep on Friday night. So what if we did it from 0700GMT Saturday to 0700GMT Sunday?

Thanks for all the kind words, fellas, I'm looking forward to two weeks from now. ;)

One subject that's been raised is that of chat rooms. I will be on mumble for most of the day (check ONLock's thread), and I may be taking time off in the evening to join a PSN chat room. Just PM me if you want an invite on the day. I can't set one up indefinetely. The Avalon lounge is on the list of all respectable pilots - Dark_Phantom and Oryx_Crake should be your first points of call, the two being very responsible and helpful fellows. ;)

I'm hoping we could get some races going where we're all on a voice chat of some sort - so if mumble doesn't work, there's always Skype. PM me for my address. Just don't be thrown off if you thought my accent was going to be less posh. :P

As for slow-train and tug_14, nobody is forcing you to do Flash races. :) I'll be running a mixture of all of them, including endurance races sprinkled in with the standard races, but at no point will I suddenly change the phantom weapons off race to a target 600 Flash Eliminator. >3

And UB3R and Tarquin - considering the three of us will be there, think we should get a 3v3, of Scotland vs someone else? :D Maybe Sweden. ;)

I have the tritton ax720. They're 5.1 simulated surround, but let me be the first to say that the simulation sounds just as good as pure 5.1. In a fps its just unfair. because I hear where you are wheever you move. On wipeouthd i didnt think it would be much help except for enhancin the music, but I was wrong. without looking in my rear view I can hear which side an oncoming racer is approaching me from,without having to look back, and a few other small things.
Here is their site: http://trittonusa.com/ - They also have another headset with pure 5.1 although I cannot speak for them personally. I can say that they've made EVERY game Ive played with them more fun and more immersive.
I would suggest actually ordering them from amazon though, they were cheaper there.

Okay so having talked to Challenger, I've scaled back somewhat the idea of a "24hr Elim / Z.B room" and planned instead a smaller series of races throughout the 24hrs that Avalon is running. The space this will leave between Z.B / Elim sessions will enable myself and other players to join in with some of the classic races, and any other rooms that are being hosted through the Avalon lounge (as opposed to Chall's advice of taking a break and maybe eating or something :lol)

It should also prevent the feel of a two-tiered chat room. Well I hope so anyway, I was really pleased when Chall announced that Avalon was being opened up to other speed classes and modes, and the last thing I want is to host a room that becomes divisive in some way.

Anyway, here is the revised schedule for the Eliminator / Zone Battle races I'll be hosting for Avalon.


• 9.00pm Saturday: Flash Eliminator. HD tracks. 200 – 260 target (dependent on number of players).

• 1.00am Sunday: Zone Battle. HD tracks (plus zone tracks). 40 - 45 target (dependent on difficulty of track).

• 5.00am: Rapier Eliminator. All tracks. 200 – 280 target.

• 9.00am: Zone Battle. FURY tracks (plus zone tracks). 45 – 50 target.

• 1.00pm: Phantom Eliminator. All tracks. 200 - 300 target.

• 5.00pm Sunday: Zone Battle. All tracks. 50 - 55 target.


I'm really looking forward to Saturday, should be a hell of a 24hrs. See you all then. :hyper

I've played you a number of times at Eliminator online and you're very good. In answer to your question there'll be 16 Flash Elims, 24 Rapier and 24 Phantom.

My instincts knew it would happen, but hoped it wouldn't.

Ask Kanar about the hit rate with this, it could pretty much be written in stone that any date set for a Avalon meet the PSN will be down.
It has happened, I'd guess around 75% of the dates that we have set out as race days.

Alright people. Do Not Panic.

Avalon: Thunderbolt will now go ahead from nine o'clock GMT (21:00) on Saturday to nine o'clock GMT (21:00) on SUNDAY.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience with the PSN network, and I understand not everyone will have Easter Monday off work, but if you do, hopefully this is a good compromise. This does mean that the hardcore fans in the UK can pull an 'all nighter' if they want, and hopefully it means Australians and Americans (and everyone else in the general vicinity) can get involved in it.

I will be on Mumble and Skype pretty much all of tomorrow, and assuming it's up, Connavar's website. I'll be chatting to everyone, don't worry, and if all else fails I do have an idea for a voice-chat based game of WipEout Qualifying. ;)

Well, it's the time I'd promised everyone I'd reschedule it to, and no update from PSN... looks like it'll be down tomorrow as well. I don't think there's any point in trying to keep it going, given that we've no idea when Sony will start fixing this issue.

I'm really sorry I managed to get you all hyped up over nothing... that'll teach me to try and market Avalon so far in advance. :redface: I really thought this was going to be a good one, but I think it looks more like Avalon: Drizzle than any decent type of storm.

I'd like to say I'd reschedule for next weekend, but I can't. I have exams pretty much until the 26th of May, and I need to crack on with my revision. There won't be another April Avalon, and there probably won't be a May Avalon until very late. And even then, I'm trying to get a job over the summer (not to mention for my placement next year), so it's unlikely there'll be an Avalon until June.

With that in mind, and with so long between events, I think this is where the Avalon dream dies. I'm sorry everyone, but there's nothing I can do about this. As much as I'd love to keep this going, my future comes before WipEout, and fractured as the community and the servers are... it'd be no use sticking with it.

Thank you to Dark_Phantom_89, kanar and Oryx_Crake for either running previous Avalons or helping me to run mine, thank you to every racer who's ever supported me in these, who's made new friends or excellent videos. I think the time has come to put Avalon to sleep until 2048 comes out as kaori has mentioned in the rumours thread. And given that it's unlikely we'll see this again until 2012, I think we're going to have to live with the memories.

Mods, feel free to lock and/or close this thread. It's not necessary any more unless someone wants to post Avalon Memorial videos.
