Support Japan - there's lots of potential for alliteration. It's always fun supporting the underdogs too. Same reason to support Ghana - fun to watch. Then if Holland get through to face Brazil, they'll probably be the underdogs from that point onward, so then you can support them (although so far not much fun to watch). :P

Being an England fan is painful even at the best of times, but yesterday was the lowest point, at least during my lifetime.
Being beaten by a better team is fair enough, though supposedly "world class" players having no idea on how to do basic defending was just awful and painful to watch.
I do believe it could have been different if lampards goal was allowed. Going into the second half at 2-2 despite playing like dog turd could have rattled the germans, but instead........ eeuugghh. Shame lampards goal was disallowed, a quality strike. So was his free kick that hit the bar.
Hands up if you hate Sepp Blatter.
Still, im hugely looking forward to chile vs brazil.

England team is a real mystery.
in every tournament, Euro or WC, they considered as favourites and everytime they manage to fail.
i believe the problem is the players, not the coach.
they seem to lazy compared to their performances on their clubs and there is NO teamwork in the team.
although i was surprised by their reaction after the 2nd goal from the germans.
(or shouldn't i, if you see what happened to my fav milan in 2005 against liverpool XD)
i have an example for you:
Greece, before Rehagel joined in 2001, always had talented players but the players were playing for themselves not for the team.
Rehagel managed to insert the right spirit and made the whole team unite as a family.there were no stars in the team, just 11 players playing only for one purpose:honour the shirt and the nation.
the results of Euro 2004 weren't completely random for me.;)
that's what england players need: motivation and someone(something) to make them look and play as a team.
that's of course just my personal opinion.
cheers :)

Ohhh, a yellow right at the end. Lucky for the dutch that they had scored more than once. That would've been something for it to go into extra time with a last second equalizer.
SaturnReturn
28th June 2010, 04:49 PM
It's not much fun seeing a goal like that conceded in what was essentially the last second. Hopefully that will shock the defence into being a bit more alert as to what's around them. Feel bad for Stekelenburg, who was referred to as van Stekelenburg by the foolish BBC commentator, and made a few good saves only to see another goal scored against him from the penalty spot.:(
At least Holland are through safely. They had better step it up against Brazil though. I'm quaking in my clogs.:cold

my hands are up.....
i dont like sebb blatter since he endorsed diving and cheating was cool and part of the game..
i also dont like it when he rigs certain matches in the world cup for his own interests by instructing refs to be partial to one side..but thats just how i see it..kinda impossible to prove that he did..
though i have not seen any fixed games since 2006 usa v italy so maybe he is getting better.
i also dont like the fact that after sebb watched the england goal that was accidently disallowed he still thought using cameras was a bad idea..
guess if he did use them it cuts down his options to control outcomes.
Mmmm..i wonder how the england team are feeling..
Maybe..ashamed

It ended up a nasty spiteful game unfortunately.
Brazil were fazed after the own goal and completely lost the plot after the second, they started playing the man a lot more than the ball, there should of been a few more red cards handed out to the Brazilians.
It was disappointing to watch a great team reduced to such low tactics. :frown:
The Dutch stayed composed and with their game plan even after being 1 -0 down after the first half, I'm very surprised they didn't score at least another 2 goals late in the 2nd half, how they messed them up I don't know.

Heh, what a difference half-time makes. Well done Orange!
I can partly understand some of the brazillian frustration. Particularly in the first, the ref whistled a lot of really small freekicks against Brazil and not a lot against Holland. It got downright nasty towards the end.
That said, Brazil completely lost the plot midway through the second and Holland just kept getting better and better. Great game!

now the road is open for Argentina to lift the cup! :D
brazil played bad and dirty and should have gotten more cards.
Dunga payed for his bad choices and tactics. where is pato, ronaldinho and they played too defensive for a team like brazil...
holland coach made also some mistakes.
he should have brought in huntelaar and elias at 70' and finish the match with counter-attacks a lot earlier.(just like germans did with england)
sneijder's class and the bravery of van bommel and the right back were crucial!
anyway,well done oranje!

Was listening to this at work and switching windows to the video stream when anything dramatic happened. Managed to miss all the goals though. :lol
Totally agree with BW - Holland seemed to have golden chances on the break to score a few more, but just dawdled and they were wasted.
Also agree with DreamyElf - Huntelaar and Elija look like they a good bet to nab late goals by injecting some fresh pace and clinical finishing.
Finally, Robben needs some new moves. The same thing isn't gonna work more than twice.:g

Wow that ITV WC coverage must be pretty woeful, I'm glad we don't have to suffer it, even the new series of Top Gear was taking the micky out of it.
SBS who have been covering the WC on free to air TV in Aus has been doing a brilliant job, they have been giving equal coverage on each team, so you really end up learning something.
Enjoying watching live coverage of day 4 of Le Tour on the same channel while waiting for the Germany V Spain match, boy there have been some big race changing pile ups, 3 in the last 1.5Km of day 2, and just masses of small ones yesterday when there were 13 portions of the days race that went over the cobblestones, that really shook up the GC. :)
Usually it's a bit of a parade for the first week and a half until the real tactical racing starts in the mountains.

Crikey, they have been talking about the electronic gear changing used on the Tour bikes that are using Shimano running gear.
I just did a search on it [ Shimano Di2 ], you can change gears under full power without a hitch, and that includes the front chain rings, it even self adjusts for chain chatter.
See this Youtube explanation/review of it.

Germany could have done much better, but the team is quite too young to
maintain the level they are able to deliver. On the contrary, Spain plays
together in its formation for over two years now, they know each other and
are clever enough to wait for their chances. Spain was the better team.
Their really deserve a star, it's about time! But the same holds for the
Netherlands. So good luck to both nations!
Personally, I was quite satisfies that we have beaten England and Argentina.
This counts a lot here in Germany (more than loosing the cup, if you ask

I can't believe that this is actually happening, but it is. World cup final or girl? It's the biggest dilemma since daddy or chips (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ksmb6iwPZYo). Might just have to record the football and watch with a delay, hoping I don't hear the score on the way home. :(

Girl! No question. There's just 4 years till next WC ;)
But couldn't you spend a few hours in a bar where there's a TV you can glance at? You can still carry a reasonable conversation and whenever anyone shouts you can turn your attention on the telly for a moment. If she's interesting enough the choice will make it self :)
Personally I just have to battle the heat while watching both the first mountain stage in the TdF and then the WC final tommorow. My wife has long given up on making me do other stuff during large sporting events :lol

Saturn - I feel your pain, but you have to see the girl - I'm sure she's worth it, plus she may not forgive you if you cancel her ;)

Oh no, she'd have to forgive me. Let's just say I'm ahead on points in that regard. :P We'll definitely meet up anyway, but it might be cut short if I want to watch the match too, and there's also logistical nightmare involved due to London transport being screwed this weekend for both of us. I don't really want to cut it short, but I want to see the match. So will stop worrying and give mic's suggestion a go and see what happens.
Hup Holland Hup!

Yea!
DEUTSCHLAND!!!
Been watching the entire World Cup on german tele... and wow, the bbc (or was it ITV?) didn't even broadcast the entire ceremony afterwards? I checked to see if they would for this one match... but all I saw was a few bums sitting round a table. :lol
Good job geman tele doesn't quit from games right away... even in ones that doesn't involve germany. And the analysis afterwards is always decent and focuses on the match at hand. ;)

Football being the daddy, the girl must be chips then. I say go for daddy, you can buy chips from anywhere. If you know what I mean ;).
Come on Spain :)

since Greece didn't managed to reach the final i'm with Spain! lol
Spain plays the best football, have their best team in their history, a great coach!(respect to del bosque /bow) and i always support mediterranean teams!:g
i like Holland too but i think it will be a shame if they win it with this team.let me explain:
Holland had amazing squad in '70s and '90s.
in '74 and '78 they were unlucky to play the final with the host country(Germany and Argentina).
in late '80s and '90s they had also great team.
especially the teams of 1998 and 2000 were AMAZING!!!
too bad they didn't won any cups then, except '88
today if you exclude Sneijder,Van Bommel,Huntelaar and Van Der Vaart the other players are average compared to the likes of the old teams i mentioned(Van Persie compared to Bergkamp? Heitinga compared to F.De Boer or Staam? give me a break...)
and finally i hate their coach. he doesn't take a risk, plays very predictable football, too defensive and unattractive for a team like Holland that is known for their total football!
also he is wasting Huntelaar for Van Persie...
Hiddink is by miles a better coach, he just was unlucky in 1998 against the great brazil...
i dont have anything with dutch people or football, i just don't like they way they play in this WC, so don't hold a grudge or anything against me, ok?:)
peace and may the better team win the 19th WC!;)

rooting for the dutch, but think spain will win 1-0. They just seem to control the ball/pace every match. Should be a great match though
edit: Probably a bad call in this one as well, taking away a goal or something for no reason, or a red card for someone flopping without getting touched.

Dare I say that... ahm... oh boy... one of the teams are doing their part in ruining the game and the ref is doing his job in my book?
I perfectly understand why though, it's the only way to get the other team out of their comfort zone. But both teams should cool it a bit and start playing football.

Spain deserved it more, far far more. If Holland had won after that first half I would have felt dirty. Shocking fouls! I'm glad the best team won. I have to say I enjoyed the rest of the tournament far more than that final, and that wouldn't be any different if Holland had won in the end.
Congrats to Spain. :)

True, Spain deserved it, but I really don't agree with the comms/presenters spewing bullshit about how it was The Netherlands' game plan to foul and maim/kill/demolish the Spanish players, it's complete bullshit.
One more thing, Mark Lawrenson really needs to **** off somewhere dirty and die a terrible death. I hope he gets a really foul and debilitating disease. Shut up you prick -_-

Bit harsh. But they were over the top after the first half with their comments. I think they were trying to be aggressive and win the ball - close Spain down early - and some of them just went well over the top. Can't really slate a whole team they way they did for individual actions/decisions, no matter how bad they were. I think those players' actions speak for themselves without the commentators amplifying them so ridiculously.

I thought the ref did alright, he could of sent two Dutch off in the first half alone which would of really ruined an already bad game of football for the impartial viewer. I agree with a few posts that the BBC were a bit anti Dutch after the first half.
Can't be very nice to lose a world cup final.

So is this a new record? 14 Yellow cards (13+1 Red) in a final.
That kung fu kick was pretty incredible though. I actually think the ref was holding back... he could've rightly sent off a lot more.
In fact, there was some judo in that match as well but I forgot who by.

Yeah because that's how we play all the time.
"Try to injure as many players as you can" is what the coach say before the match, and at half time, and after the match.
Idiot -_-

a team that wants to play and another that wants to break the game, should be expelled for at least 3 players, van bommel and de jong for kunfu kick, but also Spain won thanks to casillas

Calm down yeldar. But true enough it's not representative. I think anyone with sense should know it's not a typical Dutch performance and just individuals going too far when the pressure was on. It may not have looked like Holland were too positive at times either, but who can blame them for a slightly different approach when they've lost out so often, even with great football and talent? Today they just couldn't play the game that they did in other matches and were just stifled. Overall they scored a lot of goals (far more than Spain) and gave us some great matches (arguably far more fun to watch than Spain overall). Up until the final I'm happy with their tournament. Was a lot of fun along the way.
Muller wins the golden boot on assists as a tie-breaker. How silly is that? Especially considering one of them came on the 3rd place playoff. Personally think Villa deserved it most. And Forlan the golden ball? Can't see it myself.

I don't mind the fouls, BUT as long as they are called correctly, that judo kick should have lost a man for sure. that was the first game I saw that spain was not in complete control of the ball.
What bothers me about soccer I think, and probably many Americans is the flopping, pretending to be hurt, just to get a penalty kick or the ball. Very frustrating for me to watch this. It's too bad there is not a rule against this, like maybe if you go down clutching your ankle in either fake or real agony, you MUST come out of the game for 10 minutes. Players who do not want to come out of the game won't flop on purpose.

I'm the same with you Jabber, its frustrating to see this and I'm glad I had the EVO streams to watch. Answer.
Watch Australian Rules Football. There isnt any of this Nazi red card crap and poncy oh look at me i broke a nail im going to flop on the grass and gain attention from the referee so i can get a free kick.... dumb.
There are no on field brawls in Soccer either, only so far exciting to watching, then it gets repetitive and frustrating to watch indeed.
