Wasnt the best game yesterday. Dont think ive ever seen man utd defend a 1-0 lead like they did yesterday.
Cant blame them though, once they sat back Arsenal looked toothless in their attack.
So glad Park Ji Sung scored. He is my hero. :) And you know hes good when sir alex says hes one of his favourite players hes ever worked with. (wonder if they fact he brings the support of asia to his club has anything to do with it though? :g)
If anyone saw the Spurs vs Chelsea game, now that was entertainment. Cant believe we didnt win that one. Yet in the same breath we came so close to losing it after Gomes gave away a penalty in the 92nd minute.

Lol.. are you kidding me? i thought i was the only person who liked heskey! i always use him on fifa and own people! they hate him... my mates rinse me for liking him.
Defoe is a make up man, he always looks up at the bigscreen so he can look at himself (Ponce) yes he scores but Heskey is the man! if you count his assists as goals he would be the business! his name says it all - Hes key.... and he was our best player in the world cup by far!
He has 5 sons lol so i still have hope for a Heskey statue outside Wembley, The Home of World football...:g

I'm going to be partial towards Defoe being a Spurs man myself, but like I said i do like heskey.
Secretly I'm hoping we try and snap him up for a cheap sum from Villa. If 'Van Der Man' can work off Crouch's predominantly accidental knock downs, I can only imagine how many he'd score with Heskey in the team.
If only Heskey was as aggressive in the past as he can be now. Then maybe the whole nation wouldnt have hated him for 2 decades........ myself included.

Maybe last year, i guess you haven't seen my team play this year (except Real Madrid matches).
Don't worry though, ACM doesn't speak on papers, they speak on the pitch and with their history, you'll witness that on february.
Your team may fight brave but in the end they will lose.

I think you guys who think it'll be the end of Tottenham are underestimating us :) (Except Gareth, he knows the score :beer)
Of course I shouldn't do the same, it is the mighty AC Milan at the end of the day. I just cant see Milan knowing what to do about Bale and Lennon. Plus strangely going back to the San Siro is the best thing that could happen to us!! We froze in the first 20mins of the game against Inter. Being in a huge stadium in Europe really got to us. Going back to the exact same stadium however, especially after we nearly made an awesome comeback is absolutely ideal for us.
One thing I think we can all agree on though ---- Arsenal are fooked :)

No mate i DON'T understimate the Spurs, i know they are on top form this season!
I know Bale is an excellent player, in fact ACM is scouting him for the last 2 years, i'd love to have him in my team...

I have the utmost respect for Milan :) I just don't think they are the team now that they were. Man for man i dont think you'd have many players faster than ours. Though I'd always be worried if Pato is on the pitch. He's quick and a great player on his day.
As for scouting Bale; you and half the world I think my friend :) Luckily he's down to earth and signed to us for another 6 years, so someone would have to pay an awful lot of money to get him :beer

Granted he was decent in European competitions, but have you already forgotten his totally inept tactical decision making? I mean the number of times he played players totally out of position, and left his best players on the bench despite them being fit was ridiculous. Plus I swear every other player that left Liverpool during his reign had nothing but bad things to say about him as a person.
All this and I haven't even got to how Sir Alex made him look ridiculous every time Rafa tried to play mind games :)
Move on mate, move on. I mean c'mon the man's just been sacked after epicly failing at Inter.

By the time I got to the pub the Old Firm game was pretty much done and dusted, but it was a dire affair from what I heard on the radio and saw at the end.
I know it's rare that Old Firm games are classics, but switching to the exciting 3-3 Chelsea v Aston Villa game only served to highlight how dire the SPL games are in general these days.
Living in England for 8 years like I did from 2000-2008, I got a bit sick of the English media trumping up the Premiership and the dismissive attitude toward the SPL, but now I've been back a couple of years I can't really argue.
The SPL is where mediocre players think they're something special and where once great players come to top up the pension fund. // nods at previously fast Freddie Ljungberg

Chill out Uber mate. Your a passionate sort aren't you :)
I've been laughing this morning at newspaper reports linking Roman Pavlychenko with a move to Real Madrid!!! And Spurs apparently looking at bringing in Anchelloti of Mr. Jose himself as our next manager! :beer What total rubbish all of it!! Absolutely priceless journalism there.

I wouldn't call it passionate...
I have a friend who supports Man Utd and hes always saying "were the best" and "we beat you" but as soon as someone says Man Utd lost or any bad word he goes through the roof, swearing, name calling, spilling beer! Happy at giving but cant take... real supporters no how to take it on the chin... yeah it hurts but you no payback is just around the corner!
As im a wolves supporter iv learnt to laugh it off, "wolves are gonna get relegated haha" but i always have some positive thing to say! "at least we will win the league next season" not "we own so STFU" otherwise its end of conversation and bad feelings...
Its a game, i dont tell my Wipeout opponents to go jump if i lose...

I don't think any of the teams I follow have a divine right to win all the time, so I'm quite ready to accept it when they're beaten by a better team. It's not the be-all, end-all - it's not "JUDGEMENT DAY" as Sky Sports would like to paint it. It's a game and it's meant to be enjoyed, and, to steal a quote from Margaret Thatcher; No success or failure is necessarily final. (She was paraphrasing Winston Churchill, I believe.)
To that end, I quite enjoy a dialogue about who played well, who made a difference or who was the weakest link with fans on the other side of the result. It's just a shame that there are a lot of people who display negative traits regardless of the result. Bad losers are one thing, but bad winners are equally obnoxious.
If being disappointed by that kind of behaviour is seen as being high and mighty then **** 'em - I'm calling it like I see it.

Ever heard of an opinion ladies before you go around a bitching circlejerk? I said that Celtic destroyed Rangers (which they have in my opinion), I said The thunder has been brought back *my opinion* I said "end of." Implying that from my point of view there was no redeeming features of ragers performece from any viewpoint so much so that no-one even has the audacity to condure one up. You made up something about messi being related to samaras-where the **** did you get that from? Once again, here we go "the devine right to win" great point-but the who said they had this in the 1st place? If you can find an instance where I have said this then well done have a cookie but I'm pretty damned sure you won't find it. Also "Bad winners" I stated in my original post that Celtic humbled rangers, I didn't even make mention of that horrendous scumbag of a person diouf..or even go on about you bringing up secterian singing from the dark ages while we move scottish football on. I also won't bring up your "clever" little banners calling Celtic fc "ambulence stalkers" and the Nazi saluts from your fans across the stadium, So yeah maybe your right maybe I am focusing on Ragers bad points right enough instead of Celtic playing well....oh wait I didn't.
Interesting story about your freind right enough---but I fail to see the relevance here at all. Infoxicated brought up an incident I highly doubt happened and therefore I enquired about it, I would have went about it kinder but hey it's not as if he papped off Celtic's good performence on Ragers downfalls or anything. So it seems "bad loser" is appropriate in this sense. I think it's hilarious how losers being negative makes them better people or even better losers who don't ackowledge their team being fairly beaten as they were but prefer to pass it off as a "shortcoming" on their own team's behalf.
next time you want a discussion Rob how about you intiate it, instead of posting a snide comment and then using it to gain bait off of.
I don't care if any of you don't call it passion, that's your own mistake
So **** 'em - I'm i've called it like I see it.

For the record, "passionate" wasn't as an insult.
As for the Samaras thing, I too read in the paper about how a few Celtic fans were comparing Samaras to Messi. Made me laugh (mainly as he's pretty damn shite in my opinion :) ) No need to take it to heart so quickly my friend :)
As for todays football, if Spurs don't beat Blackbool today I'll be so gutted. A great opportunity for us to move up into 3rd place.

Oh for god sake. We only went and lost to Blackpool.
It was a very entertaining game. Their goal lead a charmed life in the 2nd half. 2 goal line clearances (one a defensive header off his own crossbar), couple of amazing saves, and missed sitters. We finally scored in 92nd minute when we were already 3-0 down.
Fair play to Blackpool though, they took their chances and we didn't.

Ever heard of an opinion ladies before you go around a bitching circlejerk?
Clearly you missed a lot of biology when you were skipping charm school.
To the point - you didn't post in this thread to talk about football. You posted here to swing your dick in the wind, beating your chest like an ape because your team won.
And as for the talk about the negative stuff that happens off the field - you brought that up, not me. I only care about the contest on the field, not all the other garbage, and certainly not the disgusting behaviour fuelled by religious bigotry.
I'm quite happy to talk about who I thought had a good game or a bad game on either side.
Jelavic? Should be on the next plane home.
Davy Weir? Has become a liability that should retire before all the contributions he's made to the team get forgotten due to his continued mistakes.
Cooper? Looks like a brilliant striker - impressive pace and tenacity.
Kris Commons? Great player - jealous that Celtic managed to sign him instead of us.
See? Doesn't fuss me - I'm no so blinkered by all the baggage that comes with the Old Firm that I can't discuss the other side. More?
Favourite Celtic manager? Tommy Burns - should have been given more time. Classy guy right to the end and would have gone down in history as a legendary manager but for a handful of Andy Goram saves that denied him wins in the big games.
Favourite Celtic player? Has to be Paolo Di Canio - I went to a West Ham game back in 2000 just to see him play after he'd left Celtic.
And, in 2001 I went to see Celtic play QPR in a pre-season friendly because the Scottish Champions were going to be on my doorstep in London. They made QPR look silly that day and I was proud that a Scottish team had come down to do that, even if it was a meaningless fixture.
I could go on, because I have no shame in tipping my hat to a decent player or manager that's not on my team, nor in saying that Celtic were the better team by a good distance on Sunday.
But, like I said - we're done for the rest of our natural on this subject and on most others. At least the way you've acted here today has helped me clear a bit of space on my PSN friends list. No sense in cluttering it up with the kind of person I wouldn't want to associate with in real life.
Now have at it - tell us all how ****ing awesome your team are again?

Defoe's an enigma. One minute he's sublime, the next he's utterly useless. Only man to have scored 5 premiership goals in a single half.
His downside has always been that he can ONLY score goals. His link up play is pretty pathetic.
Still, he loves it at Spurs, and would be a happy man to play his whole career here, so I'm all for letting him.
Did you know come April it'll have been a whole year since he last scored in any competition?

Liverpool just appear to be very fragile regardless of who their manager is - I think Torres knew that and I can't say I blame him for taking another opportunity. A football career is short - if you're in your prime and the rest of the squad look unlikely to win you trophies then you have to do what's best for yourself regardless of how many fans have bought your shirt.
Talking of fragile... Arsenal look like they're marching towards a new manager themselves this afternoon.

From what I read he wanted to go in the summer but they wouldn't let him/he agreed to stay, as he would of devalued the price of the club which they were trying to sell at the time. He wasn't even the best striker at the club when he left, it was N'gog who was top scorer I think.
Player power wins when they come out with transfer requests usually, especially when there are 'silly money' offers coming in, how or why would they say no to that kind of money? I would of thought it made good business sense to sell a player who didn't want to play for the club, injury prone, sulky and easily pushed off a ball for as much as they did. To quote a phrase, 'Money talks, bullshit walks' :D. He was a great player, but Liverpool miss Alonso and Mascherano more than they will miss Torres. Those two as far as I know were more or less forced out by Benitez!
I'm not sure if Dalglish is the man to sort them out, but he has done a great job to turn them round so far. In his time he was a fantastic manager and made some superb buys, the list of who he bought that became top players is incredible. If he can do that again this time it should be exciting times for Liverpool in the future, that's if he's manager next season mind.

I wont argue with you as your a liverpool supporter and you no alot more than me, but...
you say - "how or why would they say no to that kind of money? I would of thought it made good business sense to sell a player who didn't want to play for the club."
Good business sense to sell to a rival in the same league? you could get the same money by making him buy himself out of his contract... effectively paying his own transfer fee! and stick him in the reserves until he paid up.
i would of said " help our team liverpool or buy yourself out of the club" become a free agent and join the club of your choice, i think chelsea would of liked him for free even though they have the cash...
players are bigger than the clubs these days, and they dont get punished. i should take up management i think...

You never know what goes on behind closed doors at football clubs, for all we know the Liverpool medical team may of thought that he was likely to be forever more injured, in which case taking millions off a rival for a crocked player might seem a bit of good business. We might of done the same with Carrol though :P.

Despite my bliss at winning, I must spare a thought for the Gooners. Robin van Persie's sending off was one of THE most ridiculous decisions in the history of football. There is no doubt that the best team won (as Arsenal didn't have a single shot all game!), but it was still totally disgraceful.

Quite a tense old firm cup final today.
Don't know if it was the heavy pitch, but both teams looked slower than they did in the last old firm game - especially Celtic, although they were quite fast on the break.
Although I saw Rangers' first goal, I didn't really watch until the final 25 minutes of regular time and didn't think much of it as a game from what I saw. Very scrappy, but Rangers second goal was a good one and it sort of looked like Celtic had run out of steam in the second half of extra time.
Glad that Rangers won and that Walter Smith got to lift the trophy one last time, but I think in the league campaign Celtic are the stronger side and will most likely go on to do the double.

I must clarify this takes into account only the national league competition (for example, he lost to FC Barcelona at home in 2006 on the Champions League) and it is nine years and one month, not nine years and a half. Nonetheless an impressive record. I think it is obvious I don't like the man that much. :P
I must say I thought it would be Guardiola who would bring an end to his unbeaten streak but it was Preciado instead. Good for him. :D

Playing against Real with only 10 men absolutely killed it as a contest.
Was more annoying that I thought we defended well. They might have had 18 shots, but only 5 were on target, and 4 were goals. Thought both Crouch's bookings were soft, and bale was blocked off repeatedly by sergio ramos.
I was praying we'd keep it at 1 or 2-0, leave us with a chance. Going to be a monumental task to come back from 4....

Just a bad ref I think, no way should he have gone off for that second tackle, he didn't even touch him and only had intent of going for the ball . It ruined the whole game after that. Spurs did well to keep it 1-0 in the first half.
Bad luck Haydn, I would of liked them to go all the way but I can't see it happening now.

Really? Do I have to remind you that Barça beat Real Madrid 5-0 this year on our home league match?
I still want the Spurs to pass although it will really be difficult for them. Keep in mind that nobody counted on Inter to eliminate Bayer when they lost at home on the previous round and yet they passed.

What a match! After Madrid's well deserved win in the Cup last week we had to rise from our ashes.
Pinto (Barça second goalie) behaved like a moron during the half time and deserved his red card.
Pepe's red card was too rigorous in my opinion. I've seen him do much worse in other matches and not even receive a yellow one.
The ROFLMAO moment of the night: the deserved expulsion of Mourinho. I love how he believes he can be an ass to the referees and yet suffer no consequences. You had it coming Mr. Special One. :P
The second goal shows why Messi is always a contender for the Ballon d'Or.
And after three consecutive matches I've finally realised what bothers me most from Mourinho. It's not his bad manners. It's that he uses very expensive players to play rather cheap football.

Well the problem with Mou and his trademarked stingy football is that you must play an excruciatingly tactical game where you cannot loose a single ball in the midfield or one of his otherwise excellent counterattacks may royally screw you. So much we learned in the Cup final.
That's the reason you'll have found the game boring. Tons of ball possession is, after all, what Barça always do. For the good or the bad. This time we couldn't play risky attacks for their inherent double-edged nature. More so on the first match and playing away.
In the end it turned out quite well as a tactic to deactivate Mourinho.
And if you were bored, I believe that there being a team that never wanted to control of the ball (a possession percentage of about 30%) is what is to blame. :)
I don't doubt the semifinal would have showed prettier football had the Spurs eliminated Madrid. But that's Mourinho for you: for him results come before everything else.

I'd agree with OBH's assessment of Messi; seems to want to just get on with the game, and his late goal was superb. All the other falling about and play-acting just does my head in, though - I lose all respect for a player when they stoop to that level.

Trust me, I don't find Barca's ball possession boring at all :)
It's all the play acting (not just Barca of course). Honestly it can be utterly pathetic. Doesn't matter what part of your body is hit, doesn't matter how minor the contact was, everyone fell over clutching their face.
Painful to watch.

I only saw the "goals". I don't really know if the first crossed the line but after seeing your goalkeeper's performance yesterday and on the Champions quarter-finals, I think you should look for a new one (no offence intended). :P
Our match this Saturday was truly awful. Guardiola reserved too many players thinking of the second round of the semi-finals and we lost after a second half where we were painfully lacking in concentration.
I fear that, even if we manage to get to the final, if we keep playing at this sub-par level, Manchester will mop us up. That is, if Schalke doesn't surprise everyone (which I doubt).

Yeah, that's been their problem for the last 20 years or so, they looked like they could beat anyone on their day but went through bad patches every season. It's years since they played football like that. I've seen a lot of false dawns at Liverpool over the years so we will have to see what happens next year. We got the point we needed to secure the title in what is probably the most awful game we have played in the whole season. Not even in the matches that we lost did we play so badly. Most of the second half was a farce where it was clear that none of the teams were going to challenge a 1-1 that was good for both of them.

A week or so back he suggested that Rangers' opponents might lie down to let them win the league, after Celtic lost to Caley Thistle. This was pretty disrespectful of the teams involved, and after Hearts got beat 4-0 by Rangers last weekend, Lennon again said he had hoped that Rangers' opponents might have put up more of a challenge.
Which pissed off the Hearts team & fans no end, and probably led to the nutter attacking him last night.
The thing is, he talks about Rangers, about Walter Smith, about referees being biased, about anything other than his own team all the time. He's just a completely loose cannon, but seems unable to look in the mirror when it comes to explaining why he's hated. About the only time he's talked about his own team is when he threw them all under the bus after they were beat by Caley Thistle.
Maybe he's too young for the job, maybe he's just an ass, but he hasn't handled his position with any kind of class.

From what I've seen, Lennon wasn't even hit. It was like someone was trying to dive-hug him. :|

Isn't that just a classic managerial tactic though?
Even the greats like Sir Alex & Jose try their utmost to talk about anything other than their own team to divert the pressure away.

...to divert the pressure away.
I've always believed this to be a fallacy. In my opinion it's just a matter of overinflated egos and this "diverting the pressure" just a lame excuse.
I didn't know Lennon until Rob mentioned him but he really seems to be in Fergusson and Mourinho's alley. I dislike their personality of those two equally. The only difference being that I do enjoy watching sir Alex style of play.

Thing is though it isn't just an excuse.
It gets the fans, the media, as well as ourselves right here right now talking about something else other than the match :)
Clearly works.

Haha!
Was a great game to watch as a Spurs fan, totally outplayed Liverpool. Modric bossed midfield and Sandro cleaned up anything that went past him. Also was good to see Modric taking set-pieces. For all Van der Vaarts qualities set-pieces isn't one of them. We hadn't scored from a corner in months, and not one direct free kick all season.
Was annoyed to see ol' King Kenny saying the penalty decision is what changed the game. No it wasn't. You barely got near our goal! King had Suarez in his pocket all game. What a player he'd have been if not for his glass knees. Sheer, sheer class.
Wish we'd have been playing like that 11 games ago.
Not only was it a good result, but so was the news that due to selling Berbatov, our good run in the Champions League, and general good money management, we could have as much as £70million + to spend in the summer. (even more if we sell of our fringe players). Hope we can use Jamie O'hara next year. Another fantastic year on loan for him, and his free kick taking is better than everyone in our squad.

I'm starting to get fed up with people claiming that the referees stole their matches when they didn't play a worthy one.
This week, Girona's team in the Spanish second division (I think that would be akin to your first division since we don't have something called "premier" here) had 5 players sent out in a match. Now "that" is a referee screwing you royally. :P
EDIT: Oh, it looks like now the first division is called The Championship. Weird. :D

It's been called The Champion ship for a number of years now, but yes, it is very strange! :g
5 players got sent off!? Thats rough! Did they have to forfeit the match? Over here the game ends if your reduced to less than 7 players (At least I'm pretty sure it's 7).
edit:
Just gone over Tottenham's season, and what a crazy season it's been. Only 1 defeat at home all season (only United can beat that) except we've had 9 home draws, more than anyone! As well as that we've failed to win 8 games against teams the bottom six...... Only ourselves to blame for not being much higher than 5th... only 6 wins away from 1st...
All this drama and I haven't even got to reaching the QF of the Champions League, and beating both Milan clubs yet :P

Yeah but it has already been 13 years since I took my last English lessons. In those, my teacher (a Barça fanatic like no other) told us not to confuse the First Division with the highest league in English football (the Premier League). People used to make that mistake by doing a literal translation: here the highest league is usually called "Primera División" and the next one "Segunda División" (their official commercial names now being "Liga BBVA" and "Liga Adelante" which both suck).

I'm waiting for the result of Wolves [H] V' Blackburn [A] .
Wolves really need to win it to save themselves from drooping into the relegation 3, and subsequent playoffs to the drop back to the Championship level.:bomb
I think MegaGeezza will be hoping for a win/draw as well. :)

Liverpool... i hope to see alot of improvement next season, Kenny is the man.
Next season will be the best season yet!! with 6 teams all pushing for top 4 and the title! lets hope these top teams dont purchase any more of these frail overrated spanish players.
Im dreading watching Manu vs Barca... barca will be like a pack of domino's getting knocked down by the breeze and tripping over blades of grass.

Torres was already made of Fail even before you bought him when he played for Atlético de Madrid. :P
Being overrated is one of the hassles that come with winning the world cup. ;) Not that I'll ever support the Spanish national team for several irrelevant personal reasons.

Most of you Brits are such a bunch of whiners. :D
Next Saturday I just want the team that plays the best match to win. If it happens to be Manchester Utd, then so be it. :beer

If by "brits being whiners" you mean it's a national trait of ours that we have little tolerance for players falling over, play-acting, trying to get their competitors sent off, and essentially cheating then, for a change, I'm quite proud to be British. :)
Thanks for the compliment. :+

I just find it funny that people talk as if Barça players were the first to ever dive or exagerate.
And I said "most of you". :D I didn't mean to offend anyone. Just friendly banter. I'm sure British newspapers wouldn't be so "outraged" if it was another of the possible finals, let's say Barça-Bayern. I think it's just them heating up the atmosphere in preparation for the finals. Usual procedure for national sports press in every country, nothing wrong about that. ;)
BTW you'll never catch me saying I'm proud to be Spanish. :) Not even after last summer's world cup (there's proof in this forum).

I really wanted Man U to win but Barca were just brilliant, they are fantastic to watch, the best team I have ever seen.
The best bit though was at the end when they were interviewing Mascherano, he said that even though some Liverpool fans were disappointed with him leaving the club, the win was for them. it made me laugh and remember who I actually support :paperbag.
I thought the ref had a great game too, he just let the game flow. There's too many games I've seen ruined by card happy refs.

Yes. This kind of matches are the ones that get people into football. :)
Manchester United played a very good game but Barça played even better.
Rooney was the best for Manchester but I was also impressed by the performance of Van der Sar. If he wanted, I'm sure he could continue for some years before retiring.
Park turned to be much better than I would normally expect from a Korean player. The only disappointment was Chicharito's performance. There's no doubt he can offer a better image and he probably will in the following years.

Looks like it. It's a ridiculous scenario.
He signs a 6 year contract extension on 30th May 2010.
About 2/3 weeks ago Chelsea make a £22million pound bid which we instantly rejected.
Then Modric says we have a "gentleman's agreement" to let him go if the offer is good enough. (which pesonally I think £22m is a joke. We spent 16.5 on him and he's been worth well more (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11675_7030773,00.html)
And just now Tottenham deny his accusations completely. (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11668_7031135,00.html)
It's a complete disgrace. I honestly didn't think he would be the kind of player to kick up a fuss about us not wanting to sell him. I presumed when you sign up for a massive 6 years your in it for the long haul. Instead it's another Berbatov throwing his toys out the pram cos we won't let him make the step up.
I've been such a fan since we got him 3 years ago. Now I say get rid of the little sh*t. No one wants an unhappy player, but instead don't give him his "dream" move to Chelsea, ship him out to Italy or Spain and use him as bait to get a quality player in return.
I can totally understand players wanting to achieve as much as they can in the short time they have in their careers, but this is stupid.
Absolutely gutted. Even more so that Chelsea fans are well and truly rubbing our faces in it
