I got mine (1 for me & one for my son) from Gamestation.co.uk for the princely sum of £19.99 each, including FREE delivery! ... SUPERB!! Now i've just got to wait for a week or two until i go back to the UK & collect my PS3 and the games. (Only just purchased the PS3 so i'm really looking forward to playing HD/Fury for the first time!!) :D

I'm not going to wait for SL to do a HD makeover of past tracks.
I think I will get a PSP GO ,with cradle and component AV out cable, hook it up to my screen and use a PS3 controller, which is all now possible to do.
Including the DLC that has already been released for PURE & PULSE that's 50 tracks that I can now play in a very similar manner to HD/FURY.
If anything I think if more did this the PSP wipeout network will have a recharge of activity.

I hope this bluray release means they are done with HD and already working on a full price retail game.
And if not, yes more DLC please. :P

HD Fury is branded as the complete package, sounds pretty done to me the fact its on disk should be the biggest hint.

i would also guess that the blu-ray is essentially confirmation that they are done with hd.
i'm ready for something new....although hopefully in the vein of wipeout 3 special edition and the gran turismo series....new tracks but some classics too. the classic league idea in w3:se was genious and should have become a staple of the series. fingers crossed for a really solid new game out soon-ish! :)
also, maybe they'll actually bring back tigron and van-uber instead of the teasing this time! :D

There are a dozen copies of WOHD on ebay, shipping from Honk Kong. The auctions show the game with a PS3-Slim logotype, unlike the ones people from here bought – fake?

DawnFireDragoon
25th October 2009, 10:54 PM
on a slightly related note, it seems to be a new trend of the ps3 box art to slap on some blurb about the games online features, HD has it and also Uncharted 2 has a similar circle of Online Info. a shame, i always like to see the box art for what it is, by all means slap this stuff on the back cover, or a sticker...you can choose to remove, but making it a part of the actual art is a bit of a shame.
abukii
26th October 2009, 12:56 AM
Agreed 110% Too commercially box art. I too like to enjoy as much of the cover as possible. This is also why I wont buy GotY or greatest hits games (unless I really want the content), they cover a lot of the art.

I want to play HD version of a lot of past tracks (playing the PSP isn't the same, and the online mode is totally different).
And Wipeout is still one of the more beautiful/fast game on the console.
SL seems to be the only studio to have understood the interest in DLC (well, maybe Burnout paraidise's developpers too), so I hope they will continue, and why not include new tracks among old one (but it's not christmass yet n_n)

i would also guess that the blu-ray is essentially confirmation that they are done with hd.
what?? what...what that would mean? beacuse the game now is on BD they can't add anything more?
I hope this bluray release means they are done with HD and already working on a full price retail game.
again again and again...to the death, just my opinion as ever , in the end the only ones that own the last word are people at SL upon what they what to do, but
A FULL PRICE RETAIL GAME : why people die to wait 3 years for having the same stuff in the end, new ship models with some changes some tweak here and there some modes that suks balls...a mistery
THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE IT! PEOPLE OpEN EYES! what they have done with fury?! , they have made new ships with new stats, new modes
what the hell people want?
we already have new ships, they still have a world to exploit and utilize, if they want, still there a dozen of tracks that in hd would make your jaw drop, new tracks would be a nice and interesting move, maybe a bit longer and vary, there're billions of options, features, they could experiment with weather and day light changes, THERE's 3D to COME! ...to me HD is far far to be done and death
Darkdrium777

It's about time Van Uber and Tigron join in to be honest ;)

So true! The only thing that the continuation of the WipEout franchise depends on is SALES. So get out there, and buy the BlueRay, even if you already have the PSN version. Tell all your friends to go buy it. Or, better yet, give it to them as a present!
Sony Liverpool have created a brilliant WipEout game for the PS3, and everybody should have a chance to experience it.
On a side note: I wonder how this version of HD is doing in terms of sales, I mean: getting so much game for such a ridiculously low price should win over a lot of new Wipers, shouldn't it?

or this - what an ugly picture
http://www.aldi-sued.de/de/html/offers/15649.htm
Ugly picture indeed, but what really boggles my mind is why they decided to include the SCART converter in the picture! Seems like they where opening a box and had no idea what's what and just said to themselves 'well, this looks important, lets arange it for a picture...' :lol
Even more funny considering that the PS3 is being advertised as a console capable of HD gaming - which makes the included SCART obsolete... oooh the irony!
SaturnReturn
5th November 2009, 06:47 PM
I think a lot of people will miss out on the irony and see only the 'free' stuff, e.g. free extra controller, free scart lead, free baubles, free plastic star. I wonder if they'd have to give you the baubles if you were to ask for them?
ProblemSolver
6th November 2009, 12:06 AM
Ugly picture indeed, but what really boggles my mind is why they decided to include the SCART converter in the picture! ...
The picture looks crappy indeed, but it's really done on purpose, it fits their style.
In Germany you buy your food and stuff over at ALDI if you wanna save some
money compared to other shops. I guess that 7 out of 10 going there won't have
a proper HD TV to display 1080p or won't even have an HDTV at all.
And including the SCART adapter make sense, since it's somehow an icon which
assures one that the advertised product will run on one's TV. If they would use a
sticker like Full-HD-in-your-face, then they won't likely sell that many consoles.
Connavar
6th November 2009, 07:37 AM
Good point PS! :clap
Many people with a HDTV already know that the PS3 supports HD, and
the others (= many ALDI customers) might have feared it would be too
high-tech for their TV, so seeing the SCART comforts them, and they
can safely purchase this!
ProblemSolver
6th November 2009, 07:58 AM
I really think they put some real effort in making that picture. Crazy, isn't it? xD
Connavar
6th November 2009, 09:28 AM
I agree, the more i look at it, the more i realize how well made it is,
the drawing style makes it look "childish" like a toy, you see 2 controllers so it's
perfect to play in family, shows the baubles so the parents think "we need
to buy a present for our children", attractive price, works on my old tv (scart),
there is a free game included they assume can be played with 2 players (true).
Also by showing the disc next to the console, you see how small it is.
Genius!

To the rescue
I bought HD/Fury on Blu Ray this wednesday, and I am loving the game, seriously, I shoulda done this a long time ago (but feared that I really would become a social recluse - I kinda don't mind my own company, and HD/Fury would have ensured that I don't see friends...
However, having said that, I have played HD/Fury in 2 player split screen with 5 buddies now, Last night, I was round Kevs til 4am, rocking it out on his Sony Bravia (with hdmi) and oh, what a beautifully, sexy, sleek, awesomely addictive game HD/Fury is... Kurt, Gareth, Kev and Woodson all have a PS3 and are now hooked on Wipeout (they're all noobs, discovering the joys of full on anti-grav combat racing :lol - how cute :D) and I have been told by them that they shall be making their purchases online to get the HD/Fury packs... heh heh... I did my bit for the world of wipeout, for this month... gonna be hard topping this one next month...
... oh, wait - I can get an HDTV with hdmi and that'll be next months contribution (to myself :g)
Yo, Lance old friend - GET A PS3 (now that you are a lil more wealthier than you were this time last year - join a noob like me at wipeout HD/Fury... btw, I fly Icaras ;))

They're not selling Blu-Ray WZ here. Yet another reason for my constantly increasing antipathy toward Sony. I think I'd prefer to spend at least twice the cost of a PS3 for a much more powerful laptop than I have [towers and separate monitors take up too much space for my circumstances], to be used for rendering HD 3D images in a reasonable time while still having something to access the internet at all times of the day.

EDIT: Damn it. Sorry Lance. Sooo … erm … WOHD on BluRay. Still wondering if there's a hard cover in that Aldi-Bundle as well. Actually that's the only reason I would buy the BluRay; because of the "it looks good on the shelf"-factor. But the fact that the cover art looks rather uninspired this time, it's one more factor to not buy the Disk.

Occasionally the local GameStop will carry an interesting import title, like when Shenmue II was cancelled for the Dreamcast and bumped to the Xbox in North America. They were kind enough to sell at least one PAL version. Very cool of them. It doesn't look like they have WHD (or PS2 Pulse for that matter, but that would have been a hundred times more unlikely).

After some "research" I think its safe to conclude that WIPEOUT HD on Blu-Ray will be one heck of a rare game...
It wasn´t released on USA and in Europe its available in very small amounts.
In Portugal (Porto) I searched a great number of major video game retailers (12 total) and found only 3 copies. The moment i saw i grabed mine and went nuts... lol
I contacted friends in other countries and asked them to do this "crazy marathon" and the results were this:
-In Madrid, a friend found 5 copies
-In Paris, 6 were found
For others cities I dont have data but it would be a fun thing to do if someone wants and has the time to. :)

I have both versions. The first time you start the disc version an installation process starts. It creates a 1.9 GB file on the harddrive that contains the gamedata. Therefore, loading times are the same for the disc version and the downloaded version. For the disc version, you have to insert the disc to start the game though. Savefiles and ghosts are not compatible. Your online rank remains the same but the badges are gone. That's about it.

I always play the download version of HD Fury, but I also have the disc version. Today I tried the disc version, but ran into some strange trouble. My digital download shows version 2.20. HD Fury on the disc is 2.00, right? 2.10 was the sound bug fix and 2.20 was the stereoscopic 3D update. Now the strange thing is that when I launch the disc version I get a message that says that 2.10 is the latest version of the game and the patch gets downloaded. Ok, no 3D patch for me. That doesn't really matter since I don't have a 3D TV. The game starts and I select The Amphiseum and I get that darn sound bug! I quit the game and check my Gamedata-folder. The 2.10-patch is there, 11MB in size. I start the game again. No patch gets downloaded. I start a race on The Amphiseum again and the sound bug is still there... :frown: Does anyone know why this happens? Is this some kind of bug because I have the digital download? This is not a big issue, I just want both versions of the game to be patched to the latest version, that's all.
Sch@dows
5th January 2011, 10:18 PM
Digital and Full retail version are not really the same game (don't have the same ID). So the 2.10 patch for the digital version doesn't apply to the retail version.
It's the same for trophies and saves.
It seems that the retail version didn't get the last update (I learn that a few weeks ago when someone told me he could play the 3D version with the retail version).

There are two types of blu-ray discs:One for the public, one for reviewers. The latter is said to be unplayable on normal consoles.

And mind you, it only has HD on it. Fury wasn't out yet.

So I went to a lot of trouble and extra expense for the purpose of being able to play HD and HD/Fury as separate games, HD as the downloaded game and HD/Fury as the disc...and after playing only a few hours (I think?) of the HD/Fury disc, I've gotten so fed up with the growling disc noises from my PS3 (I play with volume levels fairly quiet, usually) and especially, the horrendous jittering and skittering and frame freezing while I'm trying to play these pathetically slow VENOM speed races!!! It's VENOM! What is it slowing down for?? Not to mention, I don't want a bunch of records from my same ID cluttering up the records which are nasty enough as is...
Therefore, I just began downloading the add-on. The bluray is now just another wipEout disc in the collection.

Since it is a press release, I think it might be a digital key to activate the game on a debug ps3.
