Okay i remember about a year ago. My PS3 would consist of about 20+ demos 10+ ps3 store games. About 20 hd trailers. Copied CD albums, and i would still have space left on my 60gb hard drive!
Now i have no space left! Everytime i want to do an update on a game i have to delete somthing. Here lies the problem. I dont have hardly anything on the HDD left! Heres whats on my HDD:

0 Videos
A few photos (and i really mean a few)
A about 2 cd albums
Games: Wipeout HD, flower, stardust HD, Worms. (Wipeout being the biggest file by far at 1000mb)
Game savings for my 25+ ps3 games (looking at most of the savings they are between 250-4000kb) surely not 50gb+ worth?

Obviously something is wrong so i was wondering if you guys knew what? and how to get my space back because i need Wipeout FURY!!!!!!!!!!:hyper

Look at the file sizes of everything first and then report back please. If it turns out that they are less then, back up everything on a jump drive and format ur PS3 harddrive.

Did you have any game data installed from disk? Check the Game Data folder

It would take too long to add it all up. There are tons of seperate game saving but they couldnt possibly add up to more than 50gb.
Can i back up my savings on a usb drive?
Also if i delete certain savings for a game, will i lose the trophies?

ahh yes i have just looked at the data utility and there is alot there. Some are about 2000-6000MB.

So if i delete some of them, i wont lose anything will i? i will just have to do the update when i next play that game right?

It's not the save data that takes up the space, it's if a game has installed any data or updated itself while it was in use, and that goes in the Game Data folder. I recently did a clear out of my drive and the vast majority of what I deleted was in the Game Data Utility folder. Files were between 3-5GB in most cases.

Saves can be backed up on USB, I've done that many times. Trophies are tied to your PSN account, you won't lose them if the save file is removed.

EDIT: Ah, you've found it :) It shouldn't affect any save files, but you will need to go through any installation/update procedure again in future. If the data contains any downloaded content (such as in the case of Rock Band), they'll need to be downloaded again.
