Girl feedback:guitar:guitar:guitar

Speaking on behalf of girl racers, patch is good, i like it.

Have campaign ships been made more shiny in the game and the select picture more blackish.

They should put special option in just for girls to do barrel rolls by pressing L3 as we have longer nails and LRL is too hard for us.

well done to the programmers.:guitar:dizzy:dizzy:dizzy

BRs are so smooth to put, awesome ;)

My only complain is that when I want to choice music track on the pause menu, the selection is too bright, so I can't see which album I'm on. But I guess that's my pre-war cathodic TV :)

Thursday where are you!!! :)

After the patch, I encountered four problems that others have already described earlier today:

1. My control settings were reverted back to default (I think?)... all other settings were properly remembered, though

2. Game froze after finishing a speed lap session (with 0 laps finished, I just wanted to test out the new track/ship select/loading screens somewhere)... had to reboot my PS3, but luckily my save data didn't become corrupted *whew*

3. Game froze again while quickly(!) sifting through the race list in the lobby (I was looking for a specific host, so I just hovered over all the rooms that said "RACE IN PROGRESS" to find it), so I had to reboot my PS3 and fear for my save data again! :eek Luckily everything was okay, but I instantly made a fresh post-patch backup of it, just to be on the safe side.

4. I noticed _huge_ video lag when someone was eliminated anywhere near me (at one point the ship right in front of me ran into a bomb and blew up, bringing the FPS down to under 10 for a second or so)

Other than these I'm loving the new patch, albeit I didn't get to see much of it due to Wi-Fi access point problems. :( Gonna have to get back to exploring it tomorrow.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I haven't failed a single BR since the update! Biggest thumbs up to whoever fixed that. =)

A little list of things I noticed about the 2.00 patch:

+ BRs work virtually perfect now
+ the stopping power of mines seems to be reduced ever so slightly, not sure about rockets
+ the changes to the online menu are very handy
+ the lighting seems to be slightly crispier (most noteable on sunny tracks), could be my imagination though ;)

- there seem to be some menu elements affected by a strange shadow overlay, which makes them appear dull, such as: the progress bar in an online lobby (starting race, etc.), the campaign event images in SP campaign, the platinum ship models.
- while the display of how far along a game is (at the online/join game overview) comes in handy, the words RACE IN PROGRESS stay on a little too long, as compared to other valuable info such as the hoster's name. How about adding a little icon for 'RACE IN PROGRESS' so it doesn't have to flicker back and forth?
- the stat on 'photos taken' is broken for almost all players I have talked to, mostly displaying several thousand photos.
- I don't quite see how the 'nudge' system is supposed to work... :paperbag

Frankly, I prefer the old ship/track selection screens, but the new ones are not that bad.

The statistics are impressive, but it lacks colors. I know the wipEout HD theme is grey/blue-green but if you could use yellow for gold medals, at least use every possible colors for the other statistics (stacked bar with only 4 colors and more options ... very ugly).

Also, I didn't took > 1000 photos. 10 at most ! The stats are wrong.

I tried an online race, and BR were getting out pretty easily. Thank you all.

I've noticed some pauses during gameplay too (racebox, phantom)- is that niggle back from the dead also?

Other than that, cool upgrade! The only major downer was the readme file...how naughty is it of SL to tease us like that? ''Fury is out now to buy........'' Who the hell wrote that? Is it Zicos revenge for all the hate mail?

So far no problems for me apart from the dark campaing menus and ship skins ( they were platinum and now look black).

A few things i dont get it:

- Why do i have 16590 photos taken?
- Favorite ship is definitly wrong as it does not represent the ship usage time, or my most used ship which is Assegai.

Also the Race total is for what? Racebox races? Or campaing aswell?

My photo count is also off kilter. It looks like there's something off with the byte alignment.. 8k-"number-of-my-photo's" seems to be what it is showing..

Also, my ps3 consistently freezes when I scroll through the available online hosts when they exceed the displayable amount. What I find strange though is that the audio just plays along. That means the software is still in control of something but it doesn't respond to input anymore.. At least not noticeable.

Greetings,

Here are my post-2.0 remarks:

1/ Zone Mode
Slowdowns / Framerate drops noticed during Zone Mode. I played 7 zone rounds on Analpha Pass after the patch had been introduced, and noticed around 3 slowdowns per Zone round mode played.
[Note that i reach between 64-70 zones per Zone round]

2/ Nudge
May anyone kindly clarify to me the use of the 'nudge' feature?

3/ Black color background in campaign
I truly dislike to background color of the medal screen in the campaign. The black color is simply ugly, and does not suit my Elite gold medals.

Unlike a few here, I have not had a freeze yet.

To be honest, the one thing in all of these patches that I've really wanted is a fix to race-devastating trackside objects. It feels like the track walls just arent big or tall enough to contain your ship in Phantom - it's very frustrating when I'm hurling around corners at some speed, only to snag a post or some kind of track-side object, stop dead and be hurled backwards, totally destroying my race. And how did it get past the checks to write "HD Fury is available now"...it isn't! Even though I knew the date, I still quit after reading that and checked the store. Grr.

Also, what's with all the bugs and gameplay choppyness? I love Wipeout HD, and the clearly passionate dev team, but really, who the hell is checking this stuff? I've never known any other title with so many issues and problems needing (and caused by...) patches.

...Only a few days till Fury though, that's something (though I can't play it for 10 days as I'm going away! ARGH!).

What do you mean by "campaign thumbnails"?

Paul. You have these pictures before entering the grid with the race events... Like Meltdown, Headrush... They have a ship with some logos on it, and there are some sound effects playing. Not sure I can explain better what they are. They are the things you cycle through right after pressing "Campaign" on the main menu.
What I'm saying is I remember them having more vivid colours before this update, just like the platinum skins of the ships were more shiny in the menu before this patch as well.
For example, Meltdown's background was actually white, and the decorations/text also I think, were purple I think (don't have HD up and running atm.)
Now it appears there's a grey fog drawn over them and the platinum skins. I personally would like that to go, thanks :)

That has been a 100% successful PS3 freezing method for me during the whole evening. Veeeeeery annoying! :bomb
I guess it will be fixed, I'm trying to remember to use the filters to keep the list short in the meantime... :)

... Also please look into the SuperZen track skin, there is some mip map error I believe, it's already been pointed out by ProblemSolver. It appears the equalizer in front of the ship is of a different colour than the blag surface of the track. You can see it on Anulpha Pass forward when you reach Zone 42. ...
Almost every color scheme has this kind of thing / effect at a constant
distance away from the craft (moving with the craft). But only in
SUPER ZEN it looks wrong.

What do you all think of the new ship and track select screens? ...
I like it.

But let me tell you something. WipEout HD's interface isn't professional
up to, well, my standard. First off, it isn't clean. Anti-aliasing is missing
virtually everywhere. For example, within the Statistics all the track icons
are aliased. Secondly, and even worse, the interface lags! It happens
rather often that I select the wrong menu coz of lag. Same holds for the
menu popping up when pausing a race. If you go through the menu,
switching some music options or whatever, the menu lags. Why?
And please, bring back the semi-transparent menus. The new coloring
(i.e. the contrast) looks way off, esp. when pausing the game or when
being in photo-mode. Just my daily rant. ;)

... 4. I noticed _huge_ video lag when someone was eliminated anywhere near me (at one point the ship right in front of me ran into a bomb and blew up, bringing the FPS down to under 10 for a second or so)...

... 1/ Zone Mode
Slowdowns / Framerate drops noticed during Zone Mode. I played 7 zone rounds on Analpha Pass after the patch had been introduced, and noticed around 3 slowdowns per Zone round mode played. ...

(Analpha? xD)

There are some huge slow-downs randomly distributed in time when
racing ZONE. They are game-breaking.

Far-views now runs as smooth as cockpit-view. That's a huge plus! :)
Everything moves more fluent. But there is a downside. The game now looks
much more aliased in motion. If you look in the distance you will see that all
the edges are pronounced like never before. Same holds in ZONE mode, esp.
the SUPERSONIC color-scheme now produces a rather aliased look. :( Either
this is the penalty for the improved framerate or there is a bug within the
rasterizer. I don't know, but it seems like that the polygonal edges are
computed without sub-pixel accuracy, they do pop. Something is clearly
wrong with the rasterizer. Here is a worst-case example; Pause the game
during a ZONE session and go to photo-mode. Now use one of these filters
and compute a screenshot. If you continue the game you will clearly see
that all the polygonal edges are now much *more* aliased than before. You
have to restart the game to get rid of it.

Almost every color scheme has this kind of thing / effect at a constant
distance away from the craft (moving with the craft). But only in
SUPER ZEN it looks wrong.I know, that's why I am talking about it only. It was fine before whatever update changed it, they haven't changed it back since.

And please, bring back the semi-transparent menus. The new coloring
(i.e. the contrast) looks way off, esp. when pausing the game or when
being in photo-mode.I agree with this, I don't like the pause menu so much anymore. It seems that everything that was a light grey in the menu/game got changed to a darker one... Doesn't look very good to be honest.

Well, overall, I'm quite happy with the 2.0 update. Barrel rolls are just....beautiful now. My times are improving solely from that, as I don't need to try to get as much air as possible to attempt one anymore, which allows me to not only execute the BR and get back to the ground as quickly as possible, but it's also allowing me to pull off BR's in places I usually had trouble doing so or couldn't pull one off at all. Sooooo happy!

I haven't personally had any real issues that I attribute to this update (other than the thousands of photos I've supposedly taken ha ha). I mean, I had a few laggy type issues while racing online, but that type of things happens sometimes anyway and didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary.

I was a bit disappointed to see that the in-game chrome skins look as they always did, as I'm partial to that black chrome look they're now sporting on the ship select screen (that many have complained about...TheFrostE knows the deal though ;) ) . I assume that black chrome look is some sort of mistake or whatever.

Didn't experience any speed lap freezes or scrolling freezes, as others have reported...though I didn't attempt any speed laps, nor did I scroll to the bottom of the list...ha ha.

Anyway, I think SL deserves major props for all that they've done and for being so active on this forum. SL has certainly earned my respect! Thanks! :+

Oh yes, some positive thinking before people think I am grumpy:

Thanks for fixing the weapon pad issue! I now get a weapon every time I hear the beep of the weapon pickup. In the situations where before I would've got none, it now takes a while longer than normal, but it works! It's still not perfect (IMHO it should be like in Wip3out, instantaneous) but it's much better than before. :)

The lighting has indeed changed, now objects cast true shadows :) See this tiny beam of light, it will actually affect an individual area on the ship, not like before. Awesome :)

And now some mitigated:

Fire effect has been downgraded on your ship, but it now shows up on all ships, not just yours. It is very ugly on your ship, but looks ok on the others. Sometimes it's barely visible in a race on other ships but the red light effect is always there.

After downloading the update and reading this thread, I've been trying to crash/break the game, but nothing. Online works fine (no issues with the lobby), hasn't stalled in exiting a speedlap (ghosts on or off), BR's work awesomely now (my biggest thumbs up to this, I love them now), Havn't seen any slowdown with eliminations as of yet (or bombs exploding right infront of me).

Stats screen is pretty win tho. Was susprised at some of my stats however, such as about 65% of my laps are online (Seems right), but about 65% of my game time was in the offline Campaign mode (don't know how that works).

Sorry, but no complaints as of yet. Only glitch so far is the Photo count in the Stats menu. Works great, thanks SL. Bring on Fury. :rock

Probably about 2 -3pm your time.

We is Australia get the updates around midnight Thursday 1 am Friday so your 10 hours behind us,but get updated at the same time ,we download off the UK PStore for this one [well redirected to be technical].

I think the update probably contains the game, buying the game will just download a key to unlock it, so it should be quick.

But then again this is SONY so I could be wrong.

First I want to say that I dont think I have all the problems some of you keep telling about. Will have a more close look later regarding that... but an example is that I think my chrome ships are as they always where..

And a good thing about the new selection screens is that its easier/faster to choose, but I think the old ones looked better. Should use the old ones for Campaign and the new ones for Online imo. :)

Nice nudge/friend system, game invites etc are always a problem on Ps3 compared to 360, but this makes it a lot better than before.

Thanks for all the work put on this game! :)

(Something I would want to see in the future is solid 60fps. Do whatever it takes to get it, reduce visual effects etc, its all worth it. I have screentearing at least once on all tracks i think. On some I have it more than once per lap, always on the same place. Even if im alone on the track. Really hate it. ><)

To be perfectly honest I liked the old ones better... Sorry :) But I'll live with them :)
I prefered the old ones too. The new select screens are "more complicated", moreover there is a short delay when you switch tracks.

after the 2.00 update i encountered massive frame drops
Same here, but it was happening offline for me - I've never noticed it before, but last night it was happening alot. I saw it on every track I raced (I was attempting the Meltdown tournament), and it usually happened in the same place on the circuit (particularly the first turn at Vineta K in a Phantom class race) but also at other points on the same track, and on the other circuits I played.

Havn't encountered any of the problems apart from the darker silver ships and campaign menu screens. BR which i hate is now perfect. Zico challange should be completed this week now!!!

I don't know about anyone else but my Auricom is very responsive!!! I haven't played the game for a long while and i'm usually very rusty, but it feels very good round the tigh corners. Elhabib can you confirm this?

The nudge system is great, good work guys.

I did notice one micro freeze when I was doing speed laps. Hope this gets ironed out in future patches. TBH, I really do like this patch. Minor issues like graphical looks i'm not bothered with TBH. i'm here to race, not look at menus :)

It's also a matter of function and readability. Light blue, or purple, on a medium gray background (on 3 of the 8 campaign menus) is quite hard to read, especially with text this small, and this should be corrected.

Sch@dows

Mr. Tweedle, Mr. Berry, thank you for being so active here these days, and thanks to all the team at SL for the game, its patches and Fury! :beer

I'm wondering about two little things:
- Zone scores are sorted first by score, then by zone, not the other way around.
- When we pick up a bonus, it takes a little while before it gets displayed, instead of being immediate like in Pure.

Why did you choose to do it this way?
Would you consider "fixing" it? :g

Cheers!

Roz
22nd July 2009, 12:38 PM
It makes sense to be sorted by score. Score also shows how many speed pads and BR's you've done, and that takes skill since it's a risk / reward system. Many BR's = many points but less shield. You have to compensate this by doing perfect zones. Also, speed pads are dangerous so they should also be rewarded.

A pretty interesting system if you ask me.

blackwiggle
22nd July 2009, 12:49 PM
You are taking more risk running over the speed pads to get a higher score.

You get and extra approx 2000 points [depending on which zone you are at the time] when you do a perfect lap.

If you didn't have this hierarchy with the the scores there would be no way to differentiate between each other.

guillaume
22nd July 2009, 01:14 PM
I'm not saying that the score should not be taken into account, I'd just rather have:
. Rank 1: 130 Zones, 400000 points
. Rank 2: 129 Zones, 400001 points
. Rank 3: 129 Zones, 400000 points
Than:
. Rank 1: 400001 points, 129 Zones
. Rank 2: 400000 points, 130 Zones
. Rank 3: 400000 points, 129 Zones

In short, Zone achieved, first criterium, Score achieved, second criterium seems better to me.
For example, I haven't seen any challenge on this board saying "let's reach XXX points", it's always "let's reach Zone XXX".

Roz
22nd July 2009, 01:21 PM
But that really doesn't make sense when you think about. That way nobody would BR or take the speed pads because only the zones would matter. It would reward the less skilled people: doing one more zone isn't more skillfull than risking BR's and speed pads and perfect zones / laps.

blackwiggle
22nd July 2009, 01:26 PM
But the ZONE score would always be first.

I see your point, but it would take a lot of number crunching on the part of the SL servers to do it [And if history were to be the judge] would you trust on them?

Sch@dows
22nd July 2009, 01:26 PM
I must admit that everyone on this board is talking about how many zone he(/she) has achieved.
I also consider points like a collateral bonus, but it would be interesting to get the opinion of regular zone players (unlike me).
Do they chase after the zone or the points ?

blackwiggle
22nd July 2009, 01:30 PM
If you aim for the points the zones will come, one progresses the other.

As I have just so recently found out. :)

guillaume
22nd July 2009, 01:31 PM
Score would still matter, just matter less.
I'm much happier to break the 100 zones barrier (never gonna happen) than to break 300000 points (just an example).
And once I'd reach Zone 100 with a score of 300000, I'd still be in front of the guy who reached the same Zone, but took less risks than me and did 290000 points.
Zone to me is about speed, the faster the better. Trying to accumulate points feels secondary. IMHO, that is.

True, it's more fun to brag about our zone score. But in reallity, points are much more accurate on the skill measuring deparment and as such it's a good thing the leaderboards are sorted like this.

But I know what you guys mean, in zone mode you compare zones, it's natural.

I put a challenge to get to subsonic on every track OR 100,000 points on every track.

Of course the score is more important than the zone. You have perfect zones (1,000) perfect laps (2,000) BRs (1,000 or 1,200 I'm not sure - you'd think I'd know) and 100 points for every speed pad. On some courses there are 16 pads per lap so the points stack up quite quickly. For most courses I have targets to be at points wise at certain zones.

You could easily go round avoiding every speed pad, making the odd mistake and getting to a further zone but thats why score is more important (IMO) than Zone.

Ooh that's right, sorry! :)
But in the end did people go for the score or the zones?

My feeling is that score seems more important because the leaderboards are made this way. Make them the other way around and we'd enjoy Zone even more. Wouldn't we?

Man I should really be working right now... :g

EDIT: And Rita agrees!! (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/07/22/wipeout-fury-developer-diary-creating-the-new-zone-tracks/) ;)

‘Zone’ is speed experienced in its purest state

It certainly seemed to inspire Wotan at least !!

Most will go for the Zones as you're correct thats how we discuss it.

Plus its always nice to hit sub or mach or super on new tracks

but the score is still most important !!

If it wasn't for the score a lot of new zone forum members would not be able to make amends for their Faux pas regarding the Zone Glitch.:)

To accept an invitation, we must press "SELECT" then "SQUARE". IMO SL should make it much easier to accept an invitation. Most people I send an invitation to don't know how to join :(

Also you should document the "select" menu within the game. It's kind of a hidden function. Same for the "press L1 2 seconds to get additionnal boost on SL". All this should be mentionned in the options menu IMO ;) Other than that I loved the update :)

I'll see you all on Fury.

Just watching the demo races and seeing all the blue tails, n' then goes one red, two red... Pointing them out like little magical miracles. Oh yea That's the stuff.

Looks like it's out now (at least in Korea). There was a game in the online server that said "Fury Expansion required" or similar. It was setup as Eliminator on Modesto Heights. See y'all online tomorrow when Fury's out in the US. At least it's coming out on payday for me, so I don't have to wait to try out the new tracks & modes (on&offline). 4 days before my birthday, too. Best present in quite a few years.

In a room with Aidolminds - he's got some new icon next to his team name (to the right of it) It's letter F with a ship on a circle around it.

Got a US flag - Hmmm.

Also, I predict tomorrow is going to be a very loooong day @ work. Call it a hunch.

I'm actually concidering waiting until tomorrow before I grab this, because I figure the DL servers are going to be pretty stressed out. I just hope the DL goes faster than the patch did (took over 1,5 hours for a 109 MB patch o.O ).
