Question Anyone on wipeoutzone a fan of chiptunes?

i am a pretty big fan of chiptunes, anyone else?

"but what are chiptunes?" you ask. basically: chiptunes are music which has been generated with old sound chips, (both actual hardware and emulated) and more famously, the sound chips of retro video game consoles.

"but where might i find chiptunes?" you ask. my, aren't you inquisitive! i just happen to know a few sites that can do a great job of introducing you to this great genre.

    http://www.8bitpeoples.com/
THE free download netlabel when it comes to chiptunes. head over to the discography and take a look around, you are bound to find something you like.

    http://www.iimusic.net/
another amazing netlabel. not all downloads on pause are free, but they have some of the best artists around.

    http://www.micromusic.net/
users upload all the tracks at micromusic. every couple of months, only the best of all the songs uploaded are actually published on the page. guest time is limited, but i am pretty sure guests can download. i really love the site design of micromusic, you should totally check it out.

    http://8bitcollective.com/
another user site, but this time anyone can upload tracks. it used to be a more intimate community, but at the time of this post has over 11,000 registered users! if you want constant fresh content, or just a place to show off your own work, 8bitcollective is the place to go.

those are the basics as far as links go. my main wipeout hd playlist has quite a few chiptunes on it. you really haven't lived until you zone with blips and bleeps.

i am pretty interested to see if there are a lot of folks here that are already familiar with chiptunes. if not, hopefully some of you will be into it. btw, i make a few tracks of my own. they aren't any good, but if you are interested- http://www.myspace.com/gogochipchampion

I like NES and SNES music. Mainly for the melodies though, the timbres can beocme annoying.

Tracker music, demoscene, etc etc etc.

I wish I could say I live for it, but alas I have never had the attention-span to attempt composing. ModPlug Tracker, FastTracker, and pxTone are all ludicrously easy to sorta get your feet wet but I never got around to it :/

    also; somewhat related:

Hmmm. Its not really my thing. The melodies can be quite catchy sometimes, but the sounds get very 'samey' after a while. On a similar note, I think circuit-bending is also quite interesting but not necessarily the music you create with the instruments youve hacked.

Im also not really a fan of Trackers either, I find commercial DAW's more user friendly to me (I use Ableton Live for my music production).
