Like I said, I wrote the announcement text ages ago when we thought they two would be released at the same time.

Again, I apologise for any palpatations this may have caused,

    Paul.

Mr. Tweedle, Mr. Berry, thank you for being so active here these days, and thanks to all the team at SL for the game, its patches and Fury!

I'm wondering about two little things:
    - Zone scores are sorted first by score, then by zone, not the other way around.
    - When we pick up a bonus, it takes a little while before it gets displayed, instead of being immediate like in Pure.

Why did you choose to do it this way?
    Would you consider "fixing" it?

    Cheers!

It makes sense to be sorted by score. Score also shows how many speed pads and BR's you've done, and that takes skill since it's a risk / reward system. Many BR's = many points but less shield. You have to compensate this by doing perfect zones. Also, speed pads are dangerous so they should also be rewarded.

A pretty interesting system if you ask me.

You are taking more risk running over the speed pads to get a higher score.

You get and extra approx 2000 points [depending on which zone you are at the time] when you do a perfect lap.

If you didn't have this hierarchy with the the scores there would be no way to differentiate between each other.

I'm not saying that the score should not be taken into account, I'd just rather have:
    . Rank 1: 130 Zones, 400000 points
    . Rank 2: 129 Zones, 400001 points
    . Rank 3: 129 Zones, 400000 points
    Than:
    . Rank 1: 400001 points, 129 Zones
    . Rank 2: 400000 points, 130 Zones
    . Rank 3: 400000 points, 129 Zones

In short, Zone achieved, first criterium, Score achieved, second criterium seems better to me.
For example, I haven't seen any challenge on this board saying "let's reach XXX points", it's always "let's reach Zone XXX".

But that really doesn't make sense when you think about. That way nobody would BR or take the speed pads because only the zones would matter. It would reward the less skilled people: doing one more zone isn't more skillfull than risking BR's and speed pads and perfect zones / laps.

But the ZONE score would always be first.

I see your point, but it would take a lot of number crunching on the part of the SL servers to do it [And if history were to be the judge] would you trust on them?

I must admit that everyone on this board is talking about how many zone he(/she) has achieved.
I also consider points like a collateral bonus, but it would be interesting to get the opinion of regular zone players (unlike me).
Do they chase after the zone or the points ?

If you aim for the points the zones will come, one progresses the other.

As I have just so recently found out.

Score would still matter, just matter less.
I'm much happier to break the 100 zones barrier (never gonna happen) than to break 300000 points (just an example).
And once I'd reach Zone 100 with a score of 300000, I'd still be in front of the guy who reached the same Zone, but took less risks than me and did 290000 points.
Zone to me is about speed, the faster the better. Trying to accumulate points feels secondary. IMHO, that is.

True, it's more fun to brag about our zone score. But in reallity, points are much more accurate on the skill measuring deparment and as such it's a good thing the leaderboards are sorted like this.

But I know what you guys mean, in zone mode you compare zones, it's natural.

I put a challenge to get to subsonic on every track OR 100,000 points on every track.

Of course the score is more important than the zone. You have perfect zones (1,000) perfect laps (2,000) BRs (1,000 or 1,200 I'm not sure - you'd think I'd know) and 100 points for every speed pad. On some courses there are 16 pads per lap so the points stack up quite quickly. For most courses I have targets to be at points wise at certain zones.

You could easily go round avoiding every speed pad, making the odd mistake and getting to a further zone but thats why score is more important (IMO) than Zone.

    Ooh that's right, sorry!
But in the end did people go for the score or the zones?

My feeling is that score seems more important because the leaderboards are made this way. Make them the other way around and we'd enjoy Zone even more. Wouldn't we?

Man I should really be working right now...

    EDIT: And Rita agrees!!

It certainly seemed to inspire Wotan at least !!

Most will go for the Zones as you're correct thats how we discuss it.

Plus its always nice to hit sub or mach or super on new tracks

but the score is still most important !!

If it wasn't for the score a lot of new zone forum members would not be able to make amends for their Faux pas regarding the Zone Glitch.

To accept an invitation, we must press "SELECT" then "SQUARE". IMO SL should make it much easier to accept an invitation. Most people I send an invitation to don't know how to join

Also you should document the "select" menu within the game. It's kind of a hidden function. Same for the "press L1 2 seconds to get additionnal boost on SL". All this should be mentionned in the options menu IMO Other than that I loved the update
