Backing up HD
I would like to install linux on my ps3, but to do this I need to back up my files. I have performed a system backup from the xmb onto an external hdd, but I'm not sure if wipeout is one of those backups.
In other words, if I perform a restore with this file, will I have wipeout HD again after formatting the hard disk?

If you have done a full backup, then yes. WO would be restored.

You should be ok. All of my contents where restored to full original condition after my HDD upgrade. Just dont cut the power while doing the transfer, you'll kill yourself, because the contents may become corrupted.

Full restore backs up everything, even downloaded games.
But you don't need to backup games if you can relogin to your account (aka remembering your login e-mail and password) because you can redownload them from your downloaded list.
