The handling at that speed is so sensitive that you can practically steer the craft using only the airbrakes. A slight jump can send you crashing into the wall, there's several of them in the freeform section and you can see he clipped one, causing him to hit the wall. Absolute concentration is needed when playing at that speed, I remember locking my door, turning the background music off and putting up a little "Do Not Disturb" note on my door

Yeah, I remember when I hit the 130. The git beat it with that run on my 17th birthday. I'm now about to turn 22, which shows how long ago it was I do remember it took him nearly two weeks to beat it though, which I was really proud of.

God, has it been five years, Charlie? I'm stunned that it's been so long. I remember hearing from afar about you and Brett battling it out on zone mode. Legendary stuff.

So completely random... Given that my last visit to this site was a few years ago, quite funny to see a thread like this bumped so recently, I was jumping on here for another reason completely in the hope that Rob would be able to answer a question for me... Weirder still it wasn't actually about the WipEout or the upcoming new release...

but for the sake of a trip down memory lane, like Asayyeah, yanked out the game, which hasn't been played since 2004 by the way and still clocks in at 350hrs, lol

My data... figures in brackets are 'unofficial' zone levels I reached...
    T01 : 4292 m. - zone 64 (151)
    T02 : 4277 m. - zone 75 (89)
    T03 : 4053 m. - zone 71 (71)
    T04 : 4273 m. - zone 62 (72)
    T05 : 4241 m. - zone 65 (66)
    T06 : 4226 m. - zone 74 (76)
    T07 : 4101 m. - zone 74 (74)
    T08 : 2768 m. - zone 67 (67) (soooo dissapointing, the only track I couldn't get a handle on, might consider going back for it... )
    T09 : 4244 m. - zone 73 (73)
    T10 : 4225 m. - zone 65 (65)

Also, nice work on the Wiki page also... very swish! and I'm amused to get a mention in it... lol

Seeing at the game being released in late 2001 in AU/NZ / early 2002 for the Euro Kids and America much later... the time has flown and 5 years have gone like that... still love the game and the series will always have a very big pkace in my gaming collection...

Heard there were problems with Fusion and Negcon compatibility.
As far as I recall, the problems were with Fusions inability to map keys as you wanted, combined with the left and right buttons being assigned to the music player options - which I always seemed to hit when adjusting pitch. Very annoying

That NegCon issue was changed in the NTSC version... not that that helps you, but the problem was acknowledged and fixed.

AAGHH!! Where did you come from??

Let's face it mate, you deserved a mention for so comprehensively battering the Zone record, I was trying to recall some major events in WZ history to mention and hitting 151 was probably one of the best

Wow, that's freaking awesome!!! I think the highest zone I've ever gotten was about 120 once, but I'm not sure, mabye I'm just imagining things... I'd have to go back and check. For some reason, it still seems possible, his heart-rate must-of been skyrocketed!!!

I got to zone 124, but it was taking all my time, then I saw the 151 and figured it would take me a year to get that. I had the record for a while after that tournament(101) on wipeoutzone vs wipeoutfusion. the damn phone rang and someone knocked on the door during the race causing much anger until I got 100.

I know the feeling, what with the phone, people popping in and the effing church bell-ringers starting up, I ended up getting so paranoid about being disturbed that I could never get a run I was happy with anyway. I managed to get the score reset, but never got anywhere near you, Charlie, Arnaud and Oggob. But it was a very entertaining time.

Let's hope Zone mode for Pulse will be as impressive as it was on Fusion , the mode that saved Fusion to my dustbin.

It was certainly the highlight of the game for me. I'll need to do that guide at some point. I finish work in a few weeks so I'll try and get going again.

Wow, those scores are just amazing. I personally never really got the hang of zone that well, I think my best was 65ish on the first track.
