I've never been lapped so I really don't know how to take that. I guess if you're that far behind it's unlikely that you're going to improve your position much if at all, however you may affect the leader and I can see why that's frowned upon by many. But being in last (something I'm familiar with) you certainly shouldn't just give up. I could see on a longer race, say a 20 lapper where someone that is lapped could conceivably get back into it.

Are people actually getting lapped on typical 3-6 lap races? I mean are they getting lapped while racing and not just standing still waiting to be lapped so they can take out the leader? I guess I'm neither fast enough to lap someone or slow enough to be lapped.

I allways drop mines and bombs in last position.
i cant see how dropping bombs or mines in last can make up the race.if your that far behind that your bombs and mines would hit the leader you are 100% guaranted to lose the race..i consider this poor sportsmanship as all you could possibly achive is interfering with a potential race record.but you would still come last.

i do agree with you saying about making the game more challegingin a weird kind of way.As lapped lossr players who are last that drop bombs to mess race leaders times do tend to get intentionally targeted by the players on the following races which makes staying alive the challenge as you have a couple of elites shooting at you.you may also get called a few things in the chat rooms too.Imo the game is too hard so last thing you want is to anger other players become unpopular and make it harder for yourself.

    @xbarnsterx...loli agree

i can totally understand those being lapped who shoot me, i mean id do exactly the same.

but my god, nothings more annoying than being on fiiiiiire..... just to be shot by a lapped ship on the final lap.

    Many naughty words get shouted

Lol..new things i want to add to the online etiquette thread that bug me and probally many others here....

1 as already mentioned ...the hosts that mess with options and do not give players anytime to accept..like venom to phantom etc.

2 so called elite players who will happily sit in my room play many games with me they are winning every one and are happy, only to run or quit as soon as i beat them once. a real player should be able to take a loss better imo.

3 giver uppers..a small minority of good players are guilty of this sometimes where they make mistake on like first corner then just give up leave their ship crashed their for whole race in middle of track for me to hit when i go around the track..poor sportanship again.

4 my pet hate is fake id's.to be honest i think about 40% of the players online are using fake psn id's.Fake psn id meaning..you really are probally been playing this game for a long time and would probally be level 30to60.
i often play players under rank 10 who can acheive top 100 race times yet checking their gaming details they have like 0% completion for the game meaning they have not even managed to do a hundred BR's yet.. yet they are apparent masters of the games in less than a few games.
Yes i have been told rank means nothing in this game. so how comes so many players are using fake id's then if rank is that unimportant.
to me rank is important cos when i play a rank 60 player i know i am going to have a hard game 9 out of 10 times..but when i play a rank 1 i may have a easy game or i may have a hard game with some dikhead who didnt have the balls to use their real psn id.cos thats all i see when i play fake psn id users.. is cowards who are scared to lose under their true name or players who dont cut it on their current rank.

These players i am talking about are fakes..i am not talking about low ranked players who do not play online much yet are good.i can tell the diffence cos their game progress in thier profile will cleary show what type of player they are and their names will usally be well known amongst other players with their names littered all over the place.

Fake psn id annoy most genuine players i have spoken too imo as their is no reason in wipeout for it.no global rankings for online so why bother..

@ fake id's: I wouldn't think that most people who are fast necessarily need to have a high rank. Some people just don't play as often. I'm only at rank 26 myself. I wouldn't assume that all of them are fake id's. The ranking system as it is is simply broken, there being people with rank 50 and above who have no racing skill at all.

Rank is definitely not representative of a player's skill, so forget about it. Forget about gauging player skill by the number of hours played online. Someone can have played 1 hour online and be excellent, others played 500 hours and still suck
If they choose to play on a rank 1 account for whatever reason, it shouldn't change anything for you. Just beat them, that should be your only goal.
And it pisses you off? Why? You have some sort of stereotype in your mind that says: "all low rank players must suck except a few exceptions when they have 80% trophy completion; and all high rank players must be good" ? That's silly. Treat everyone you see equally and maybe you won't get so bothered by the number that accompanies players wherever they go online.

Sometimes it's nice to fly incognito now and again, I have done it myself in the past and there is definitely less pressure on you. If you are playing it all the time and know a lot of pilots sometimes you can't play for yapping and can get in the way of a good session. I never did it to trick anyone or because I'm a coward, just for a bit of space that's all.

The Ma yuffies and roastbeefkillers of this world are fine by me apart from robbing me of places on the leaderboards

Rank has always been the whos-got-no-job-'o'-meter.

    LoL...thats great!!

Online etiquette should be adhered to regardless of game. I cant tell you how many nasty messages Ive gotten stating Im a cheap, cheating American...its funny at first, but rather aggrevating when its done over and over. I just keep me mouth shut and play...I suppose it could be worse tho.

i am not talking about the value of rank, i am talking only about fake id's online and how sad i think many of them are.

@elhabib....100% True and agree with you but onine is still full of sadcases with fake id's

@ yeldar..True i agree too but rank 50 is more liekly to be good than bad so it can indicate to a degree.

true to a degree but your example is greatly exagerated im afraid.

cos it insults my intelligence trying to pretend to be another player by using another made up id..oh and its pretty sad too almost like a football player who wasnt good enough for manchester united so he dresses up as a 10 year old to join the local kids side so he can look real good.i have been beaten by genuine low rank players who i know are genuine.its the principle behind it.unfortunatley some players ego are just so big that they are just to scared to play under thir real names and hide behind fake id's, knowing this is irritating.

wow..some honesty, and a valid reason. unfortunatly i dont think all of the other 20000 fake id's users have the same valid reason as you.

i play lots online im rank 29 now and have played for 2 months.if you want games i would be happy to play you as i am still learning and need to improve.

I dislike American football, love Aussie rules football [way more action], and find international football/soccer a touch dull. I'm not in good enough condition to play any of them, and not nearly heavy enough to play American football. Maybe if I weighed another 50 or 60 pounds, I could be the goal kicking specialist.

You would get players that have changed their PSN name for various reasons [Silverfox for example].

Others that could have changed to a PS3 slim and might not be able to race under their previous name.

And yet others that have bought the disc version of the game and have only started playing online ,but are good pilots from Pure & Pulse.

I've raced a few in the last couple of days that are pretty good and have only had the game for less than a month.
