Default what's happened to the early qirex design for WO HD?

i wonder what happened to that qirex model who appear in the very first shots of WO HD when it was in development?

    [img=http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/8836/13230008cw0.th.jpg]

you can find more shots here http://www.gamersyde.com/gallery_7289_en.html and here http://software.filefront.com/Wipeou...formation.html or here http://www.gamersyde.com/gallery_6403_en.html

just for make the point , i could know and understand well why the design have to been scrapped out, thank god, cause just really don't fit for a qirex ship, too light and slender design and i really like the classic design of the qirex model in WO HD, just still wonder what end had come for that design...

but, last night i noticed something: after a long session in wipeout pure playing van uber i've begin to think of how much that design remind me something of van uber design, just think up about it, take a look on the profile of the ship, the front air wings...the overall silhouette, the reverse wings, the cockpit shape...
just take this design and try to think putting on it metal grey, yellow & orange
    what do you think about?

Looks more like a cross between Fiesar and Assagai IMHO

Quirex sure does handle better in HD than any other incarnation of it in previous wipeouts,I got around 75% of Campaign done with it and I've never previously been a fan.
SL probably tweaked the Quirex handling using some of the characteristics of both those craft over the pre existing handling parameters.

The fact that Qirex handles better in HD is prime example of what's wrong with the new "Wipeout formula." Qirex is supposed to be wicked fast, and handle like garbage- a combination that ensured only the most skilled pilots could utilize the ship successfully. It's really annoying because I used Qirex exclusively in XL, 64, and 3 and could fly them marvelously... When Fusion came out (and the WO universe was up-ended), Auricom was no longer the middle-of-the-road contender they once were, THEY took the place of Qirex with a huge bulky ship that wsa very fast and had poor handling.

Qirex isn't even heavy anymore, I'm getting bashed all over the place when I'm racing online... Even a stupid Assegai or AG-systems seems to be able to push me out of the way. Qirex use to be like an immovable force and now they're just a joke. I also have SERIOUS doubts about their "90%" shield rating because it seems my shields deplete down to <20 nearly every lap.

friend all this is really intersting but i was talking about the design of the ship in these early shots, the " curious " look have in mind initially for HD the designers , and why qirex would suppose to end so differently from its pulse model on the early plans for the game, expecially the only ship who would had to end so different from its pulse counterpart...

anyway ag wolf i think as you 'bout the doubtful shield capabilty cause at all effects i race very well with qirex but i've noticed since time that i've an higher mortality rate with this team
it's possible that i begin to listen that alarm sound far before and far most than when i race with icaras or assegai...

lol sorry, it's just a sore spot for me ;P

it is strange that their ship design were to change so drastically from development to final; perhaps the new Wipeout crew after Fusion didn't realize how much of a following Qirex had... remember when they were reintroduced in Pure, the ship had a very different visual design feel- it was rounded and smoothed.

I get the VanUber-vibe from those early design shots, too. I honestly really liked the VU ship design in fusion and pure, despite not liking the craft from a racing standpoint... maybe SL was trying to get a more varied fleet of available ships? As far as the change goes, I think they might have just had too much negative feedback from preliminary trials... either that or someone in-house just said "This is retarded, let's make them look the way they're supposed to"

I actually quite like the early qirex design, but it doesn't suit the 'qirex mentality'.

on the topic of Van Uber, though, look at the side-view close-up of the Feisar ship in front of the Triakis:

    http://www.gamersyde.com/gallery_7289_en.html

it has "vam" on the side of it in nearly the same font as van uber's team name

edit: okay, maybe not, but it's been a while since I say their logo in detail I just did a search for it now

I think we'll be getting Van Uber sooner or later as DLC. At least the Van Uber logo is already in HD - take a look at the second hairpin on Sebenco, it's right there, on the wall, large and proud

Tigron eventually as well, no? Or did the Metropia Tigron advert disappear? I wouldn't know I never checked for this.

Is it just me or is the Tigron billboard really the only one in the game looking old and rusty?

yes, i've tell this already in the old thread of mine about the tigron and van uber billboards in the game, the billboard is clearly old and dirty but the strange thing is that it is present in a pulse track not a pure one...maybe it's just a gimmicky thing, but i don't want really kill any hope now

//AG-Wolf- I totally agree with you, the Qirex spirit is gone. SL, please, let Auricom be the ship with average stats again and bring Qirex back to the front!

I really like that early design and I wouldn't mind if it is available in future DLC as part of the "Concept Ships Pack". The model is saved somewhere, right?

indeed, nadia hits another good point, just like something i have in mind from the thread start:
indeed a very smart thing from studio liverpool would be to reuse this model for a good van uber design , just some tweaks here a there, change cockpit, join the hulls in the top as the VU trademark, paint it grey/yellow/orange et voilĂ* an astonishing VU design

or if they want reuse for a very good concept, sure better than the pulse one, if they want to release concept packs in future, this is good

this way they save a lot of time and money i think , sure what i wonder from start was , they would have saved it somewhere in their databanks...so why not reuse it

    if people like it!
