But for navigating the net, I increase the efficiency of the process by not downloading anything I don't actually want to see. I use Proxomitron to block banners and adverts. I use the Opera browser for its efficiency and its ease of control over loading even individual and background images; per site control of javascript and cookies, etc.; and full customisation of the interface, including what appears in all menus, and the order of item presentation in those menus; and custom toolbar content, plus placement at top or bottom or either side. Those things all speed up actual throughput of work [or play] done. On days when my dial-up ISP connection speed is normal, my page loads are just about as fast as my former neighbor's 1+Meg cable connection was, and my work efficiency was better because until I eventually converted him, he use IE.
