I downloaded the SNES audio files here:
    http://snesmusic.org/v2/profile.php?...t&selected=840

extracted the files with winrar, edited their lengths to be about 4 min long each (you can edit them in winamp with SNESAmp if they are extracted and not read-only), shortened the fade-out to 3 seconds, and rebuilt the archive with winrar.
    http://alpha-ii.com/Download/Main.html#SNESamp

used SNESAmp in winamp to create .wavs of the songs (using high-quality output in SNESAmp; it makes the bass sound better, IMO):

used LAME to encode the files to 192 VBR mp3s (lame -V 2 --vbr-new):
    http://lame.sourceforge.net/

this process can be done with any SNES game
Ive got the 1990 S-NES F-Zero game, tracks are fully retro, but, i have not a ****ing clue what those links do and how to convert the files into readable audio files.

If you'd like i could write a more detailed guide (probably in a new thread) on exactly how to get the original SNES (and possibly NES) soundtracks to MP3.

I highly recommend the legendary psychedelic/goa trance masters Astral Projection. Part of my WipEout HD mix includes their Mahadeva, Aqua Line Spirit, and Power Generator tracks among other more progressive and hard house stuff from Solid Globe, Phase, Dirt Devils, and many more. They seem to really complement the highly energy pace of Phantom speed racing above all else

This would have to be the best track to use for WO I've ever heard.

Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go.

anything from following artists and labels:

*Noisia (their fabric live mix was sooooo badass) and vision records. we've all heard seven stitches from wipeout, that song was just one of many. these guys are "teh awesomez".

*teebee and calyx, their solo stuff and their stunning colab "anatomy". calyx is the only guy to rival noisia for sheer awesome badassness.

*full cycle records esp. early krust (nicely satisfies my lust for big stupid mid 90s dnb) and awesomeness of fullcycle live CDs (everytime i've seen reprazent roni has been kinda sloppy but dynamite has been awesome, he's a genius - and i've touched both roni and dynamite on separate occasions! anyway full cycle live 2 is great for online racing, gets me pumped)

*anything truplayaz/ganja kru mark 1 (ditto satisfying lust for mid/late90s dumb n bass etc etc). closer, one life and stronger are all super awesome tunes wipeout

*my all time fave label, moving shadow records (esp. omni trio, dom & roland, early ez rollers). timecode's legendary cheapo mixups are solid gold for playing wipeout. ooh AQUASKY!!!

*some* good looking records (early, pre-mediocre bukem and conrad go really well for zoning out on phantom speed laps on pretty tracks eg. vineta k),

*breakbeat kaos (esp. Adam f's drum n bass warfare mixup by DJ craze, one of the most badass cheesy drum n bass/hip hop crossover records of all time). adam f's classic circles was pre-breakbeat kaos (i think hospital or his early label f-jams) but it's great for zone, an epic cd that also deserves to be listened to alone with your eyes closed and the headphones on.

*just about anything metalhedz of course! (incl. guys who have on again/off again relationship with the hedz eg. the legendary grooverider, the genius that is photek (esp. early stuff and solaris). and goldie! (I touched him once too, helping him get off the stage when he came down onto the dancefloor after the set to shake people's hands. such a gentleman!!! and another time i saw him on a 40 degree day. it was so hot the decks were burning his hands but when the roadies put up a sunblock he asked them to get rid of it because it stopped him from being able to see the audience. awesome, awesome guy)

*some* hospital records (they have some mediocre artists for sure). high contrast's high society album was an absolute classic.

*not the biggest ed rush and optical fan but the creeps is always great for wipeout, esp. white lightning and reach out.

*mix cds by craze and nicky blackmarket, and *some* andy c (and a few dj marky mixups too, he's maybe a bit poppy for my tastes though). good undemanding stuff for background music for racing

*few stragglers: disc one of klute's emperor's new clothes is a great wipeout cd - instrumental with mostly quick beginnings (no listening to intros that last until the race is over), bad compny's recent "inside the machine" (not as epic as their old stuff but again goes well with wipeout), aphrodite (esp. self titled first album & aftershock - again, quick intros = good racing. kinda poppy but hey it's classic stuff)

btw i like drum n bass

An album thats really been working for me is Disk 2 of Cause 4 Concern by Pandemic. Soundbytes available here: http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc...ack=C4CUKCD001

I never used to think Drum & Bass suited Wipeout but this album goes so well with it, its all ive used since I copied it to my HD.

does anyone know where i can get the ed rush, optical and frontline track from the original soundtrack from? i've got all the others and want to add it to my custom playlist (which includes music spanning all previous wipeouts). the g.a.m.e 3.0 album has some good stuff too. i'll review my playlist when i get home then i'll whack it on here.

edit: some kind soul (insertcoin) helped me out on that one, i'll put my playlist up soon.

Just want to say thank you for everyone who has been contributing to this thread, its a great source of information. I don't have just one play list myself but have several spanning different style's. Once I have a bit of time I will write them all down and post them here. Keep it up everyone
