I won't be able to watch your video because the school where I am at blocks youtube.

On a side note, You guys seriously need to get Negcons before the tourney next year

    Thumbs up

    That's pretty good Travis.
I'm quite sure you're better at Pirhana Phantom WOXL than I am. 8 )

I always preferred the Qirex. It may be a brick, but it's reliable. None of that "twitchy" that I have such difficulty with... 8 D

I'll be tackling the WOXL again at some point though... With my new black neggie! Perhaps then I'll learn how to really fly the twitchmonster.

    Unhappy

Unfortunately, I suffer the same fate as Al a couple of posts up. School blocks youtube. School sucks.

Is there a reason why Piranha doesn't pickup any weapons?

    Yeah, there is.

The Pirhana chassis is very aerodynamic and streamlined, there's only so much room inside it for engines, shield, and ammunition. They used the most powerful engine there was, with the strongest shield generator, and that really filled up the chassis.
The engineers actually had to modify the chassis several times in order to actually fit the engine in, and that was after several rounds of optimization and redesign of the engine itself so that it was even possible.
Once they had that in (priority #1) then they had serious issues trying to fit ammunition reloads in the craft, there just wasn't the room. Not only that, but adding the weapon mounts seriously affected the aerodynamic profile and really reduced the top speed of the ship. Have a look at the 5th stage race test results, you'll notice how much slower the lap times are, and that the top speed had dropped by more than 50 mph.
By that time they'd aquired a new Propulsion Engineer with a radically different engine design in the works, but it was months from completion. It was that engine that would eventually power the Piranha II in 2098, but there was no way it could be ready for 2097, and there was no way they were going to miss another year due to technical delays.
So an executive decision was made to leave out all weapons systems entirely and focus on getting the craft in the race.
    And there was much rejoicing.
In the end, their revolutionary "AG plate control system" was exactly as overwhelmingly powerful as they'd thought it would be, and they completely dominated until their new control system was banned from the F5000, which as we all know lead to such uproar and outrage that the F5000 eventually shut down.

... Or was that not the kind of answer you were looking for?

ya AL , i still don't have a playstation...modded or regular US. so i ve been playing my wipeout solely on PSP and pc emulator, which means i use my six axis ps3 controller. i cant do that with a negcon even if i had one...i just NEED a modded playstation, that would be great...heck even two with a link cable so i can multiplay here.

If you want the straight forward answer, it's game balance. Uber fast craft WITH weapons? No thanks

I really don't hope you think the weapons in FEISAR, AG, AURICOM AND QIREX balanced out the racing when you raced someone using the PIRANHA in XL

I have determined that Jay is Insane (not sure if this is enough for impeachment, but maybe censorship)

Xavier, how could that not be the right answer? with all those words and stuff

The real answer. To drive Arnaud Senand insane by the game not moving fast enough

Al > I guess because WipEout is a fiction Ben's answer seems a bit more realistic, even though I doubt, just like you, that Piranha with no weapons is balanced against other ships xD

Jay > There are two men dressed in white behind you. You will follow them serenely and they will escort you to a very nice cushioned room in a very nice house Don't be afraid, they will not hurt you.

Oh, well, if you're looking for the technical reason, then I would place money on this:
When they were testing out the Pirhana, they noticed that every time they fired a weapon with it, the FPS would drop. I'm sure you've seen the same thing in the slower ships when the AIs are going nuts with the firepower?
Well, the solution to that problem was either 1) make Pirhana slower, or 2) live with a choppy framerate. Of course, neither of those options were acceptable so they went with secret hidden option 3) remove players ability to pick up / fire weapons.

    Just a guess.

Definitely try a NeGcon, you will see a lot of improvement in pitch, which is what you races are suffering more of, but that can be fixed even on the dpad, you seem to have got the track figured out horizontally, but not the diferences in altitude.

Although Talons is a pretty flat track, its that subtle (by WO standards) variation in altitudes, that takes a bit to master competitively, there is more time to shave from the records on this track, even if its the most competitive one from xl/2097, give that task to Al or Asa and see the times go broken again and again.

There was a time when Asa used to show a new 2097 record almost as often as he posted, thats why i nicknamed him "the record raper"; Al, on the other hand, dissapeared for a while, and one day he comes back and says "Hi!", and boom all the 1st places on the XL table were turned into 2nd places; thinking about it he could be named "the record reaper"

Concentrate on your pitch so you can master it, try to manage every ramp and bump with pitch control, and you will feel the game flows a lot better and faster, you will enjoy it more.

You dont need a playstation to use a negcon, a ps pad to usb adapter + negcon with emulator will do, but i do recommend using a real playstation, otherwise you will not be able to input your records on the ´Zone.

    * edit for info about yaw, pitch and roll: i know by now this should be basic and general knowledge but here it goes

It didn't stop the WO64 development team from installing weapons on the Piranha II. >_<
