Seriously, how do you guys do such good designs? The skin editor on Wipeout-Game.com feels quite limited to me

Click the button with the paintbrush, next to the 16 color boxes. There, below it you'll see two icons next to a question mark. The two papers is Copy, and the one with the clipboard is Paste.

What I do is copy the previews from there and paste them into MS Paint and modify the color scheme as I please. Then, I copy them from PAINT and paste it into the EDITOR.

The Editor alone doesn't give many tools for flashy painting - for me, thats where Paint comes in. (for some around here, its probably where Photoshop or somethin' comes in )

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for that. I did'nt know that. Works good on MSpaint. Might give CorelDRAW a shot with it, if i can find the disc for it. Got a few cool ideas for the Goteki ship.

does anyone have any other tips on making skins? anytihng to make it easier, etc etc... I'm not well-versed or capable when it comes to pixel artwork, so I can't easilly transcribe a design I may see in my head onto the flat image work area. Has anyone made some sort of program that will render the ship model (like on wipeout-game.com), which will let you copy and paste scaled images/etc directly onto the 3D model, and then generate the skin/texture file from that? Seems like a simple enough idea... think along the lines of the emblem feature in F-Zero GX....

Not a custom skin, per se, but I figure the best way to spark creativity (and the motivation to act on it) is to do things free-hand. I kinda made up my own Qirex logo that I'm gonna use whenever I try the ship skin thing.

i'm feeling uninspired with an overall theme/design for my AG-sys, but i'm sure in time i'll think of something clever. on a different note, but relative, i can't seem to import a skin into the online editor. i can pull the 2d image off no problme, quickly edit it, but not matter the filetype i can't get it to copy it back in at all. bitmap, jpg, png, nothing. i have it copied to my clipboard, but the paste button and pop up "is it ok" window do nothing. same ol' starting skin.... i don't understand.

    Thanks for the feedback, fellows.

My next project will be a Wipeout 1 AG-SYS skin, brought up to date with sleeker paint lines and more intricate detail, to spice up the boring design of the original.

I second Medusa's post. Great skin there. I'd like to see someone do one of the skins from the intro movie to WO1. Some of those were pretty damn sweet.
