A while back I considered getting rid of my PS2, well now I am, its up for sale.

I'm gonna get rid of it and get a cheap second hand psONE and a new (cheaper) X-Box

Quality games here I come.

(Great deal in Dixons BTW, £199.99 = X-Box, 2 joypads and two games )

Do you really want to swap WipEout fusion, Metal Gear Solid 2, Jak & Daxter, Gran Turismo 3, Tekken 4, Virtua Fighter 4, Devil May Cry, Ico, Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy X and Zone of The Enders for Halo, DOA3 JSRF, Munch's Oddysee and a bunch of titles that are coming to PS2/ are on PS2 anyway? Get Half Life, AirBlade and Klonoa 2 instead.
Why go for the console that many developers are losing faith in and is starting to fail worldwide? Well, your loss.

actually, the ps2 has even a bigger load of rubbish games. But very good games too, like the ones listed above. I buy my xbox because its easier and free to play online and its got / coming games that I like. Im not selling my ps2 tho.

Also, think of it like this, if xbox and ps2 was released at the same date, there wouldnt be much differance.. I mean, when I got my ps2, there was one game that I enjoyed a lot.. and it was SSX, the rest of the launch titles were, in fact rubbish, or had been seen before.. sure Tekken is fun, but is it something new and something you can only get for a ps2? not really.. ridge racer was a disapointment.. no depth there, and so on.. The good titles for the ps2 has arrived the last 7months or so.. although ZoE was released earlier, its not in the must-own category as some dislike it a lot for its "too short".

Now lets look at the Xbox launch, it has one really good title, Halo.. like the ps2 had SSX, and a bunch of mediocre titles , in comparison to ridge racer. And its got DOA3 , an upgraded fighter sequel, just like the ps2s Tekken Tag launch title...

give the xbox a year and youll see its got good games as well..

thats low man, in jaguars entire existance it had nowhere near as many good titles as xbox already has, and theyve sold too. maybe you should stop reading your playstaion propaganda and check out some real information.

of course, for all you people that are more neutral on the subject, the real question is can a console survive simply with support from its mother country? there have been some products that have survived only with a market in japan or us or whatnot, however nothing at this grand of a scale. and if the floundering in other countries degrades to failure, would this be a big enough hit in the pocketbook to destroy the product line entirely? historical examples and intellectual reflection need only reply.

yeah, the problem is that the xbox is so new. The ps2 has had 2 years now, and before that they gained a good market with the ps1. Nintendo has a strong fanbase since the NES and gameboy. Hopefully, consumers will see other features than "it looks like a bag of ****" but, with enough support from eu and japan it wont risk a failure I think. People has always been afraid of new things, its an instinct since the dawn of time.. but, anyway, Im just rambling on about my oppinions here.

I cant say I can recall any example of a product this grande that has survived only by the creators country/region.

i think microsoft have got the muscle to sustain early losses where atari didn't, also jaguar (as has been said) didn't have a solid line up of games. it looks like x-box is going to do well in europe as well imho, and i think it could easily survive with only modest success in japan. whether bill gates will be happy to let that happen is another story - the man has more money than he could ever spend so i assume the only thing that keeps him going is a need for power + status.

i think really it comes down to games - sony still have massive brand loyalty becasue of playstation but a console is nothing without games, and the one with the best games will win out. personally i'm more interested in the game cube because i think the games will be more original and playable, rather than fixated on tedious realism and polygon-counting like so many game developers seem to be these days. why mimic reality when you can create a whole new reality?

don't forget that the sony playstation was the new kid on the block when it came out. sony succeeded largely because of their financial muscle. they were bigger and richer than any of the game specialist companies, and could undercut anyone's prices as a way to get their own machines bought. there were other factors, the major one of those being that they had a good software development kit available from the start, while it took sega a considerable time to get one, but the main reason for all the secondary factors was the primary one, money. gates has got plenty if he chooses to spend it. he can hang in there for a long time and he can keep advertising

I was quite disappointed with the PS2 launch line-up, but now there's never been a better time to hang onto it, especially as Jak & Daxter 2, Spyro 4 and Ratchet & Clank are in the pipeline.

Urrrgh!

I hate it when this happens. To be perfectly honest I am a SEGA fan boy, and the range of SEGA games on the PS2 leaves a lot to be desired, the range (and upcoming range) is better on the Gamecube, and especially the X-Box.

The Best games that I own are on the PSX, so I'm gonna keep those (with a second hand PlayStation for £30 ) cos no mater what the shortcomings are with the PS2, WipEout still rocks.

Also seeing as there is really othing past WipEout Fusion (great game, not much after the zone mode) and the next WipEout game wil be PS3 I don't see the point of keeping it.

P.S. The X-Box pad is not as bas as people say it is.

I'm not keen on MGS ether - 2 hours of gameplay with 12 hours of cut scenes... erm... go make a movie, not a game!

I noticed at consolesource.com that you can buy adapters for DualShocks so that you can use them on an X-Box... that could solve the controller problem

I have always been a fan of Sega, actually. They had great ideas and were ahead of their time. Sadly enough, ahead of their money as well, and with bonobos in charge.
