Here's my definitive guide on how to run the game properly (with sound, as it's a common problem)

We'll use D-Fend Reloaded for an easy approach,

(when you install it, it also installs DosBox, experts might prefer an SVN version but I won't elaborate on this here)

  • get the game as an CUE/BIN image
  • drop the CUE on D-Fend Reloaded window -> Installation wizard starts
  • now since there's no installer, we'll have to cheat a bit
  • you should have the prompt at D:\

Type the following commands:

Code:
c:
md wipeout
cd wipeout
d:
copy *.* c:
exit
The Import folder wizard appears:

Pick the Complex DOS games with 3D graphics ... template and press Ok. (the program file to run does not matter actually as we'll override autoexec.bat, actually you can even delete the files we've copied above as they'll never be run, we had to do this otherwise that import folder wizard would not have shown saying that he didn't find any new files on its VirtualHD folder)

Open game profile editor by selecting the newly created profile and pressing Ctrl+Enter. On Starting tick Override game start and set the Autoexec.bat content as below:

Now for the sound

Go to GUS and untick Activate GUS:

Final thing, the CPU:

You have two choices here, either you set Max or set cycles to 90000 depending how it works on your side, the former settings seems to alleviate the problem of the demo starting early on menus.

Enjoy !
