think of a future version of F1GP/IndyCarSeries...
worldclass racing, where races consists of up to 78laps(F1) or 200laps(Indy).
the great thing about wipEout HD/FURY is, it offers possibilities to play its game modes in "different" ways ;)

i have this idea in my mind for a long time now...


Q: how to get multiplayer races with more than 20laps each?
A: eliminator mode without firing weapons, just absorbing is allowed! this way every player will get 5points/lap.

i've added a few examples of possible races below:

- syncopia fwd - 600 - 120laps - 166maxBR/race - 1,38BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 38min racetime - 21,0sec laptime
- vineta k fwd - 540 - 108laps - 150maxBR/race - 1,39BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 36min20sec racetime - 20,2sec laptime
- übermall rev - 480 - 96laps - 134maxBR/race - 1,40BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 34min05sec racetime - 21,3sec laptime
- anulpha p rev - 420 - 84laps - 118maxBR/race - 1,41BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 31min20sec racetime - 22,4sec laptime
- sebenco c fwd - 360 - 72laps - 102maxBR/race - 1,42BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 27min50sec racetime - 23,2sec laptime
- chengou p fwd - 300 - 60laps - 86maxBR/race - 1,44BR/lap - 10HP/sur+ - 24min48sec racetime - 24,8sec laptime

the rules:

- the FX350GPSeries consists of 6 main GP, plus 1 final GP held @ syncopia;
- every 2 months 1 GP will be driven;
- every main FX350GP consists of two events!

1. one SPEED LAP event to qualify for the actual GP (best8/16/24/32/...players).
- the podium positions will score additional bonus points!
- if one or more of the first eight qualified drivers cannot taking part in the race,
the ninth/tenth/eleventh etc. drivers will take their slot.

2. one ELIMINATOR event which will consist of 40-120laps.
- it's FORBIDDEN to activate weapons, but it's NOT FORBIDDEN to absorb weapons (shielding).
- the first driver to get to the target score wins the race...
- every completed lap will get the driver 5 points (target200=40laps;target600=120laps),
BUT every respawn/death AFTER lap 1 will cost the driver 5 points, that means the driver
has to complete an additional lap!
- every completed lap will get the driver +20HP(1.33BRs), so it's smart to cross the start/finish line
with a max of 80HP!
- max 6BRs/lap is doable, but that'll cost the driver 90HP!
- the very moment the first driver completing 10% race distance,
it's NOT possible anymore to restart the race!
EVERY driver disconnecting afterwards for whatever reason will score ZERO points (DNF)!

- the final 7th GP is an invite only event, where the best 8 drivers from the actual season will fight out the champion.

this is really just an idea as of now, but if we can find 8+ players who're interested, it could become a really BIG event.
any suggestions or ideas to expand and/or better this are very welcome.

But how we will know who is 2nd 3rd 4th etc...
If 1st pilot will cross the finish line, it will be end of the race and it will look probably like this:

5th - 555
6th - 555
7th - 555

yep, as soon as the first player crosses the finishline the game will automatically end. the good thing about eliminator mode is, that it counts the laps too...so if 2 or more players have the same score @ the end, the 1 with the higher lap count will place higher! if that's equal too, the 1 player who's nearer to complete his lap will place higher.

today i've done a 40lap race vs kleido, and i've to say that was the most intense race i've ever made throughout my years of playing wipeout hd :D
he won, i came close behind (final score:200-195). the whole race was like a game of chess :) when is the right moment to attack with a barrelroll offensive, when is the right time to calm down and let your energy replenish? this was absolutely awesome! i can't wait to race a full GP with 120 laps distance :D

Yes, it was really intense. More than what i was expected, great sensations!

But isn't 120 laps a bit too much? Peoples with glasses will have an advantage because of the protection their glasses offer to them during this intense eyes work. :D
No rest during 120 intense laps seems really hard, but it could be really interesting. Who will be able to deal w/ pressure etc.
It scare me a little :)

Also, for qualifying SL, how does it will work? (not everyone can take pictures etc )

Edit: And yes, rapier is better imho. Too much events dedicated to phantom players :)

@ kleido: we could make the speedlap session on the same day as the race will be held. we all met in a ps3 chatroom, then everyone will start the specific speedlap session. we all can use the ingame photomode to make a photo (where the hud must be visible). then everybody sends the photo via psn message to me, and i will tell you all the starting grid via the chatroom.

How do you intend to organise the event with more then 8 pilots, as your first post states?

@keg: up to 8 players = 1 race, if we get 16 players together, we can start 2 races held @ the same time. the first 8 players will qualify for the 1. race to fight out places 1-8 ; the second 8 players will compete for the places 9-16 etc.

edit: @ kleido: no, i haven't raced a 120 lap race so far, but i would like to do so ;)
edit2: 9 players so far have shown interest, that's good, but we need MORE, 16 would be awesome!

after a few pratice sessions with raizza, i must say, it has to be phantom class!

For qualifying i like Keg's system, as used in FX350/400 league. Best lap on a time trial (or total time trial time), this counts the boost-start (or BSB) out. And give a more realistic race time result. May be a point you could think about ;)

@mietepiet: you're right, because it's a 'weapon off' event, we should make the qualifying without items too.
so the qualy has to be a 2 player 'wep off' online event.

the best option would be:
- 2players randomly put together (organised via ps3 chatroom) to form a qualy pair;
- each pair of players start a 2round 'wep OFF' mini tournament on the specific GP track (2x the exact same race!);
- the player who is set on pole in the 1. race will go for the fastest race time, the player on the second place on the grid won't do anything until the next race starts;
- this setup ensures that the 2. player of the 1. race will start on pole in the 2. race;
- the 2. race is the qualy race for the 2. player of the 1. race.
- the result of every mini tournament must be 8 points for each player, otherwise it's invalid!
- both players have to write down both times and send them to me via psn.

i would say, this is the most fairest qualy system, i can think of atm.
the cool thing is, everyone has just 1 try for her/his qualy time :D

And it should work fastly. 5min are imo an acceptable time investment. Moreover it is similar to reallife because you have only one try to set a good time. A solo TT allows one to have lots of tries.
So i think we have cleared all formalities. Now we should focus on recruiting more player.
In general im really looking foward to play that mode.

But, it depends what order the people join in i think, so you would have to make a randomizer for the people of the chatroom. I think it is, but im in!

But doing this before the race could take long, and since we're scattered around the world, not everbody is racing on a suitable time i.e. late at night or early morning.
Isn't it better to do this during the week before the race?

what about this? the first WE of a month the qualifying will be held. the second WE of the same month the race will be held. this gives us enough time to do a proper qualifying. we could make the qualifying pairs of the same timezone. i.e. two australien players; two from usa; two from europe etc.

I was thinking about it. you're looking for a system to make cheating less possible. In that case qualy before the race is the best option. But the downside is that it take lot's more time, organization and players commitment.
I think the easiest way is finding a dummy player during the week and set your qualy time. i.e. 1 player can be the dummy for three other. this takes less organization, but one can cheat by doing multiple tries, or whaterver.
Since we don't play for money, just for honor. I don't think cheating is a big factor. There ain't no honor in cheating!

then we have to choose between:
1. qualy just before the race
2. qualy during the week and just trust eachother

We could just qualify during the week and take a picture, I'm sure everyone one here at least has a camera phone

it's all about the number of players interested in this. if we don't have at least eight, there's no point in starting a championship. but im still in, kind of ;)

we could do different classes, rapier and/or phantom to attract more players...
