[thank god ive got sugar]
if you want to discuss Zelda, go ahead and start a new topic in general discussion. theoretically, we can talk about anything in the general forum, though in fact it is better to discuss non-videogame or non-web development issues on forums that specialise in other subjects. politics and religion spring to mind as topics that ought to be somewhere other than wipeoutzone; discussions of them can get angry and vicious very easily. forums generally exist so that people can share a single special interest. more generalised discussions about many topics are better served by chatrooms. even the chats that are supposedly based on single subjects just naturally evolve into discussions about everything. i used to be in a Radiohead chat where we almost never talked about Radiohead. anyway, In My Opinion, forums just work better when they're more focussed on one central subject plus other very closely related subjects. in wipeoutzone's case, of course, we talk about one particular videogame series, but discussions also are about closely related things, mainly other videogames and videogame music both on consoles and computers and the internet. this also links to graphics design and web design. going beyond those subjects seems to diffuse the community spirit that we have on this particular forum because it means going beyond our shared interests.
you can see how this very 'thread' we're writing in now has fallen apart into other directions; this is because it was from the very beginning unrelated to wipeout or videogames or anything closely related to them. so there was no cohesiveness to the subsequent posts, no focus, no definite path along which discussion would develop. so as more posts are added, it turns more and more into the kind of mishmash that you find on those other forums that don't work as well as wipeoutzone. you know, the forums you tend to abandon to come here instead. ; ^ D
had not the system administrator already posted a reply to this thread before i even saw it, i would have been strongly tempted to just delete it because i knew it would go to pieces quickly. having said all that, though, i now say to bear in mind that today i am tired, hungry, perhaps bitchy as a result of that, and that i always have a bit of a perfectionist streak. not only that, but my Mom died on Valentine's day several years ago. every Valentine's Day reminds me of when i watched her die, so i may be prejudiced against the 'subject' of this topic. i'm just telling you these things so that you can better judge the opinions ive stated in this post. nonetheless, i ask you to think about what i said in that first paragraph.
