View Full Version : Oggob's Zone 151 video now available

30th March 2003, 08:16 AM
We've finally succeeded in converting a video of Oggob's insane zone 151 achievement to MPEG format. To keep the size down, the video contains key moments from zones 30, 60, 100, and then the remainder from zone 140-151. The file size is 11MB and is available in both ZIP and SIT format depending on the operating system you use.

ZIP: http://www.ffxnet.com/151short.mpg.zip

SIT: http://www.ffxnet.com/151short.mpg.sit

Thanks go out to Lunar for converting the video to MPEG, and to Oggob for making the insane run and for being such an absolute god at Zone. Enjoy!

I haven't seen the video yet.

However, I was telling AmigoJack a while ago in a chat that Mr. Zoolander isn't human! He's an EG.r employee sent from the future.

With Zone Levels like 151, Mr. Oggob could also be considered a time traveller

I'll probably post my comments about the video later.

That is just $*#&# nuts. Strange thing is, by about 3/4 of the way through it almost seemed to slow down a bit as I got acclimated, but there is no chance in hell I could ever pull that off.

My hat's off to you!

31st March 2003, 07:24 AM
There's a reason for that, AmishRobot - at around Zone 63-64 it doesn't get any faster. From that point on it's just a matter of hanging onto the thing! :)

31st March 2003, 06:02 PM
Finally! Ive been wanting to see this for so long!

There's a reason for that, AmishRobot - at around Zone 63-64 it doesn't get any faster.

Well I knew that. My point was just that after 20-30 seconds, I started to get acclimated to the speed and was actually able to follow what was going on... barely. It almost felt like it started to run slower.

Sorry to revive.
The link is dead, does anyone have a copy of the thing? If so do you mind uploading it?

28th April 2007, 02:07 PM
I ve uploaded it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0EL_bo_n3Y&feature=RecentlyWatched&page=1&t=t&f=b) but that's very pixelised :paperbag

28th April 2007, 07:45 PM
With that horizontal line on the video it looks like my old VHS on fast forward :D

Insane. I once got around 80 something but didn't remember it being that fast...

28th April 2007, 08:17 PM
Holy bum-shitting ****! That's amazing! :+

EDIT - 666 posts... uh-oh... *eyes turn red*

28th April 2007, 10:20 PM
Bloody hell, watching that again after not playing Zone for over a year.... how the hell did I ever hit 130? :D Honestly, Brett was a legend at Zone, and it was him that got me into it as well. Great to see that video again.

(Original links are dead as my old website's subscription ran out years ago ;))

Awesomeness :+

I lol'd at Zerow's comment (and postcount)

29th April 2007, 01:49 AM
LOL'd you say...?;)

Your competition on Florion Heights the 1st one was totally insane :o years ago Charlie!! i remember the progression you had you 2, and you were leading at a point and pushed Brett to get that crazy 25 min non-stop racing with that 151.

I haven't raced it for a long long time ( except at Dam's convention for 1 race early on sunday morning..., thx to Kei and it's fantastic projector!)

I dig up my old scores recently from my memory card through a ps2 from a friend, here they are =
Track1 : 4292 millions of points - zone 64
T2 : 4281 m. - zone 76
T3 : 4181 m. - zone 72
T4 : 4288 m. - zone 62
T5 : 3735 m. - zone 62
T6 : 3699 m. - zone 73
T7 : 4270 m. - zone 77
T8 : 3733 m. - zone 74
T9 : 4288 m. - zone 73
T10: 4286 m. - zone 66

Unfortunately no videos available :frown: and don't count on me to did this again ! I crashed 3 neggies on 15 months playing that zone mode

29th April 2007, 02:40 AM
Wow...how did you memorize all the tracks? And even going that fast. Insane. But why did you just suddenly crash? it looks like you could of done a lot more. Also in the beginning it looks all speed up. Thats amazing.

29th April 2007, 10:29 AM
Is this record made with a NeGcon?
Heard there were problems with Fusion and Negcon compatibility.

29th April 2007, 10:57 AM
The handling at that speed is so sensitive that you can practically steer the craft using only the airbrakes. A slight jump can send you crashing into the wall, there's several of them in the freeform section and you can see he clipped one, causing him to hit the wall. Absolute concentration is needed when playing at that speed, I remember locking my door, turning the background music off and putting up a little "Do Not Disturb" note on my door :)

Yeah, I remember when I hit the 130. The git beat it with that run on my 17th birthday. I'm now about to turn 22, which shows how long ago it was ;) I do remember it took him nearly two weeks to beat it though, which I was really proud of.

29th April 2007, 04:15 PM
God, has it been five years, Charlie? I'm stunned that it's been so long. I remember hearing from afar about you and Brett battling it out on zone mode. Legendary stuff.

So completely random... Given that my last visit to this site was a few years ago, quite funny to see a thread like this bumped so recently, I was jumping on here for another reason completely in the hope that Rob would be able to answer a question for me... Weirder still it wasn't actually about the WipEout or the upcoming new release...

but for the sake of a trip down memory lane, like Asayyeah, yanked out the game, which hasn't been played since 2004 by the way and still clocks in at 350hrs, lol

My data... figures in brackets are 'unofficial' zone levels I reached...
T01 : 4292 m. - zone 64 (151)
T02 : 4277 m. - zone 75 (89)
T03 : 4053 m. - zone 71 (71)
T04 : 4273 m. - zone 62 (72)
T05 : 4241 m. - zone 65 (66)
T06 : 4226 m. - zone 74 (76)
T07 : 4101 m. - zone 74 (74)
T08 : 2768 m. - zone 67 (67) (soooo dissapointing, the only track I couldn't get a handle on, might consider going back for it... :D)
T09 : 4244 m. - zone 73 (73)
T10 : 4225 m. - zone 65 (65)

Also, nice work on the Wiki page also... very swish! ;) and I'm amused to get a mention in it... lol

Seeing at the game being released in late 2001 in AU/NZ / early 2002 for the Euro Kids and America much later... the time has flown and 5 years have gone like that... still love the game and the series will always have a very big pkace in my gaming collection... :D

Hi Brett, cool to see you back there master zone mode :+
ahhh bring back ol' memories watching again your great scores !

Zone mode Pure have you tested ? no speed limitation after zone 60 :banzai but crappy design :pirate

Is this record made with a NeGcon?

As far as I recall, the problems were with Fusions inability to map keys as you wanted, combined with the left and right buttons being assigned to the music player options - which I always seemed to hit when adjusting pitch. Very annoying

1st May 2007, 12:54 PM
That NegCon issue was changed in the NTSC version... not that that helps you, but the problem was acknowledged and fixed. :)

1st May 2007, 06:03 PM
AAGHH!! Where did you come from?? :D

Let's face it mate, you deserved a mention for so comprehensively battering the Zone record, I was trying to recall some major events in WZ history to mention and hitting 151 was probably one of the best ;)

2nd May 2007, 10:32 AM
Wauw I am impressed, Oggob, the grandaddy of zone! Swami Oggob Zone. :banzai

22nd June 2007, 06:53 PM
i feel ashamed cos it was only a few weeks ago that i medalled on that track. but im geting better, brap!

30th June 2007, 04:32 AM
Wow, that's freaking awesome!!! I think the highest zone I've ever gotten was about 120 once, but I'm not sure, mabye I'm just imagining things... I'd have to go back and check. For some reason, it still seems possible, his heart-rate must-of been skyrocketed!!!

1st July 2007, 10:59 AM
This is freakin' unbelievable. Seriously.

2nd July 2007, 01:05 AM
I got to zone 124, but it was taking all my time, then I saw the 151 and figured it would take me a year to get that. I had the record for a while after that tournament(101) on wipeoutzone vs wipeoutfusion. the damn phone rang and someone knocked on the door during the race causing much anger until I got 100.

2nd July 2007, 02:26 AM
I know the feeling, what with the phone, people popping in and the effing church bell-ringers starting up, I ended up getting so paranoid about being disturbed that I could never get a run I was happy with anyway. I managed to get the score reset, but never got anywhere near you, Charlie, Arnaud and Oggob. But it was a very entertaining time. :)

2nd July 2007, 01:39 PM
Let's hope Zone mode for Pulse will be as impressive as it was on Fusion , the mode that saved Fusion to my dustbin.

2nd July 2007, 05:08 PM
It was certainly the highlight of the game for me. I'll need to do that guide at some point. I finish work in a few weeks so I'll try and get going again.

21st July 2007, 03:33 PM
Wow, those scores are just amazing. I personally never really got the hang of zone that well, I think my best was 65ish on the first track. :(

27th July 2007, 03:52 AM
WOW! I can barely manage Zone 30, that guy must have Matrix thumbs!

31st March 2008, 09:37 PM
I am convinced it's Jedi-like reflexes now!

spaceboy gajo :)

really high midichlorial level.. I'm sure he would be able even to beat anakin on Tatooine:g

1st April 2008, 09:45 PM
never played fusion, but i must say, that is absolutely buc-wild
