sorry if this has been posted, or if it's old news.. i just found out today.

Sad news, from the man himself...

Unfortunately Curlymonsters has to close imminently.

Thanks for buying Quantum Redshift - hope you
all enjoyed it and we're really sorry about there not being
a sequel.

Big plans for "Quantum Redshift: Solaris" *working title* were...

- Live! 8 Player league battles and tag-teams.

- Various planets around the solar system employing mad weather and gravity effects.

- Ditching the sequences.

- Improving the Audio

- and Making sure we had control of the box art.

Nevermind eh?

Take care, Over and out.

Why?!?!

Curly Monsters ruled!

N.GEN Racing was one of the deepest racing games I've ever played next to WipEout.

Such a sad day....

Damn, and just when I finally got a working copy of N.Gen Racing and was getting into it. And our game store had a playable demo of Quantum Redshift, and I really enjoyed it. And from what I read here, the sequel sounded sweet. ...I wake up, and this is the first thing I find out...man, I'm going back to bed. :(

Hope whatever your future endevours are are met with success, Nick...

Hi guy,

Some kind words there...
I've clearly turned off my email settings.

The low down is that the publisher decided not to do the sequel.

That's it really. We've been trying to secure more work for 4 months and
in this climate with the stock market falling and uncertainty of war, all
the publishers seem to be very risk adverse at the moment.

We can't afford to run anymore and so unless a miracle shows up over the
weekend, I think we're done.

I think all of us here will be able to land jobs, but it's a real shame.

I'll still hang around here, but I'll get my email changed over to my home one.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed QR and NGen.... more to come - but under a different guise no doubt.

Nick

I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope all of you will stay in the game creating scene.

Could somebody tell me who was the publisher if I may ask?

Sigh... :-?

It seems they can't identify a bunch of good game creators when they have them in front. Decissions only based on sales suck. It's quality what brings glory to a system not the amount of sales. As I said before, good luck in your next projects.

If only that were true.

Sales do have a large factor.

But I like to remember that Wipeout sold about 300,000 over the first 6 months....
and Wipeout2097 sold about 1.5 million over the first 3 months....

The financial climate is all wrong at the moment for publishers to take any risks.

it must have helped that by the time 2097 came out, the installed base of the PSX console was much greater than in the time of the original WipEout. i've seen a few game reviewers giving much credit for that increase in number of consoles to WipEout, as the kickstarter for Sony's machine

Of course.....

You draw even more parallels than I ;)

Still - you'd like to think that a "publisher" with 30 Billion in the bank would be able to shake off that kind of risk like water off a ducks back.

I remember all the fuss two years ago when M$ was gushing over every games developer that would support the XBox. Funny how swiftly they can turn their backs when it doesn't suit them - maybe they're saving the money to woo third parties all over again when they push the XBox 2 out. :-?
