i have judge badly some ship, ****ing love the front geometry of piranha, oh man that ship rocks in those shots! wtf icaras has same shape of w3o model! quirex not bad at all! mirage odd than ever now seems like...an egg?! triakis harder!
auricom and goteki rules!

love the atmosphere of the tracks! damn i'm in love with the sky on modesto! tech de ra sunset:dizzy
and last but not least finally a NIGHT RIDE! YEAH!

p.s. wtf what is supposed to rappresent that auricom logo upon quirex side? :?

Alas, the new ships are not the work of Mr. Egg, rather the work of Dean, Dave, Rob and Matt. Dean, Dave and Rob worked on the original HD ships too.

Those shots have fuelled my anticipation for this. The Studio Liverpool art team really knows how to use the photo function :). Interesting to see that the detonator ship changes colours, at least I think it does based on the screen shots. Is there no Zone Battle screen shots in there? Or can you not take photos in that mode?

Why the contrast increase in FURY?

It almost looks like it was originally intended and video mastered for Blueray release.[Deep colour gamut as able to be reproduced by the latest screens]

I know that will make FURY look better on a LCD display ,same sort of visual impact as 2097,well at least in the black levels,assuming the home user has their display close to 6500k calibration.

Just curious.

to ZONE, too.

Why not having a different ZONE craft (same specs) for each team?
Just simply putting a texture on it (the team name) isn't that satisfying.
Each team can have its own version to do various tests and to design
their next AGHV crafts (their Anti-Gravity High-Velocity crafts) thereof,
culminating into a DLC called 'WipEout HD Velocity'. Just dreaming....

It better not look like that stupid piece of crap model from Wipeout Pure. All the rest look awesome... why is it the one team I like looks stupid with the update? We better be able to use the old models still.

to me it looks like they made the nose/catamaran narrower and completely removed the signature tail-fins that sweep back on the left and right sides. All the rest of the updated models look AMAZING but still hold true to their team design cues... Qirex looks tinier and more frail... the exact opposite of what they're supposed to be. When I saw the model in Pure back when I first got a PSP I was genuinely disgusted, like... that right there marred my entire impression of the game from Day 1, not to mention the fact that Qirex is supposed to be one of the fastest teams and they've been neutered in every Wipeout iteration starting with Pure. I still haven't even unlocked Pure's Phantom class because I just don't care enough to play it.

But be cool if the contracted and shifted depending on how fast you were going to switch from being more aerodynamic to having more stable handling at lower speeds. I believe some fighter jets incorporate mechanics of such a nature.

Aww...Qirex, i do like the this model better than the current HD model we have. But i have to agree with AG-Wolf, just hasnt been the same. A model based off XL would kick @ss!

That's the reason i stuck to Icaras, which now i'm a bit skeptical on its desing/color scheme. But i wont say more until i see them 1st hand.

althought the overall look it's a raw reprise of the w3o model, except that headlight spot that break much the aerodynamic line...

Well I'm loving that tigershark mouth on the traxis, amazing attention to detail.
I am falling in love with the mirage ship, in fact most of the ships new designs all feel natural. Give me a shot of my AG systems from the front though, the back looks almost the same.

Can't wait, hurry up and release this already SL

Looks like The Amphiseum has a nice dark atmosphere to it. Would like to see more screenshots (or videos) to really know that for sure.

What I like about the track is the way it's illuminated. Because it's mainly illuminated by the ads and by rare track lamps. That makes it more realistic compared to tracks where light-lines and neon-lamps are everywhere (Anulpha Pass is a perfect example here).

Or are the venerable lens flares back? :o
Please, please let them be! While they were probably removed in Wipeout HD to show off the graphics more, they really are a Wipeout staple!

Does somebody know the truth behind this?

They are there in WOHD as well, just not visible on your ship directly because of camera angle, but if you go in photo mode and fly around you will see it... It's nothing new.
And they are not there because of framerate problems they cause.

This is a very cool idea that is implemented in Cyber Formula - a kind of Anime Futuristic F1. The cars can change shape into 'Aero Mode', which is pretty cool :)

Nothing to do with frame rate, their brightness is purely a function of the camera angle. Try racing with the internal cam view and you'll see a lot more of them when you get close to the other ships.

Interesting idea. And imagine that the craft's mechanics change
accordingly. So you fly around and see how all the crafts change
their shape to better fit the next situation. Cool.

Ok, we have found a new DLC, next to WipEout HD Velocity, called
WipEout HD Tranformers. :)

Egg is right, fillrate is the main bottleneck in 1080p but the flares don't hurt too much actually. When we were adding them (I am the Richard that Egg refers to) I was quite prepared to clamp their size a lot more aggressively but we were surprised. The shader has very few fragments, just an additive blend with some UV transforms to split the RGB.

The reason they don't show up on ships in the distance was purely an aesthetic decision, as they are meant to signify the flare as being the brightest thing on screen.

Good spot. I thought the same thing myself when I saw it but you need to retract your lawsuit because what you're seeing is NOT a skybox problem but the leading edge of a bomb shockwave.

Our art team is totally leet and does not make mistakes. :rock

@RJH: I always thought that the RSX has fillrate problems. This chip isn't
fitted for 1080p in general. :( What was Sony thinking? Has nobody done
an a-priori analysis on how much fillrate is needed for 1080p@60Hz given
some workloads? Hmm.... Anyways, I'm glad that you guys can pull the
most out of it.

I can't give you the programmers opinions of the RSX (I'm an environment/fx artist these days), but fillrate changes dramatically from frame to frame. It's a game, not a film - you can't choose where the camera's going to be. All you can do is make sure the graphics are humming along at close to max 99% of the time and handle the spikes (such as two or three big effects going off simultaneously) when they inevitably occur.

As has been remarked upon elsewhere in Internetland, if the game threatens to frame out we throttle the resolution back for an instant. If we didn't do that we'd have to have the engine run at a fraction of it's potential 99% of the time just so that we could handle the 1 in 1000 edge cases at 1080p 60fps.

The explosion is real - it's the same explosion used for the rockets/ship deaths that's always been there. The game just got paused at a nice point during the effect :)

I heard they shut their doors back around January. Sad really, cause those guys were so awesome :/

Yeah right. For sure.

But tell me, why does ZONE lag? The new transition effect (from v1.30)
makes the game laggy. The game shutters if the effect kicks in. There is
also tearing on almost all tracks. Why? :| I mean, ZONE is almost a static
game (no rockets, no opponents whatsoever), why doesn't it run at 60fps
under guaranty? Don't get me wrong, most ppl won't understand why I
bring that issue up here, but those moments where the game (in ZONE
mode) lags and tears are very distracting. Try to remove some geometry
(buildings etc.) beforehand if the engine can't guaranty 60fps all the time.
And by any means, don't add any effects that decrease the framerate.

I have a large video of a pre-build version of ZONE (720p@60Hz, ANULPHA
PASS, 20 zones, different (original) color-scheme(s), etc.) that utilizes the
same transition effect as of version v1.30. However, the pre-build
transition effect is utterly smooth. What happend?

Sorry to bring that up here, but who at SL has decided to remove the
original sound (prior to version 1.30) one can hear when the ZONE craft
is low of shield? I can't believe it was taken out. :|

I must say though I really wish the flares were showing all the time, they are part of all the previous WipEout games, except the first one. If it doesn't impact performance so much, can you make it an option defaulted to off? :)

*shrug* I figured it was about the same group of people, more or less, for each entry after Fusion. Point being, one of the things I've held with almost personal regard since the moment I got my hands on XL over ten years ago has been continually raped ever since Fusion... Qirex was removed from the game at that point, when they came back in Pure they looked retarded and their stats were nerfed... Pulse fixed the ship model at least (and thank god I found XL and WO3 skins to use), but it was still slow as balls. HD made no difference, and with fury, not only is the ship still mediocre, it looks retarded again. I'm trying to hold off on my disappointment until I see the model in front of me in the game, but so far it just doesn't look like it has the same attitude that the team is supposed to have.

MM, i'm well aware of the switch... but it's almost a slap in the face... They're essentialy rivals and to go from one to the other is a big step. I've loved Qirex ever since I learned to fly them in XL/2097... Auricom was supposed to be the middle-of-the-road ship, and Qirex the unwieldly beast, trying to claw Piranha out of the water. I want my rocket-powered concrete traffic barrier back...

I even admit, I like how Auricom handles in HD, at least I like it more than Qirex... it's faster, heavier, and slightly less twitchy. Some of my times are even better with Auricom than Qirex, it's almost insulting.

Also, there's no "u" in Qirex.

i think, because those are normal races models, but we only see 1 ship at one time, maybe we can use them in classic zone too, don't know.

but on videos, it seems that there still is the zone craft for zone mode so, i'm a bit confused.

Well i learned spanish and english around the same time, studied a bit of Latin on my accord. So Portuguese , Italian, and most romance languages i can usually understand the "jist" of it.

But i think it came from phonetically enunciating Qirex that i had the urge to initially place the "u" in it.

ah, no, the ships go the same direction on that turn...
if it's the case, there would be an option when selecting the track.

What you're seeing on the third Tech de Ra screen is the darker sky because of the sand storm that you can see in the first Tech de Ra screen. ;) That's why it looks like "night", but it isn't really.

i think you have beat me in time, i have plans to open an argue about this subget, i have 2 in mind, that shot of tech set in supposed night-time, and the mysterious dissapereance of an entire city from the background of talon's junction within a year gap ( do you know what i mean, HD set in 2106 pulse set in 2107, take a look in the pulse talon's background then in the HD version :p just odd:) )

are you sure darkdrium? do you remenber in the pulse info about the tracks and in game presentation tech de ra was an ex hydrophonic farm?

I think that TBH, Tech De Ra is in evening as far as I could tell, so what looks like a sandstorm is actually dark rain clouds moving in from the mountains. And the clouds take on a sandy look due to the sunset. Just my thought on that.:)

As for Talon's, I think the draw distance of the PS3 allows SL to put the cityscape farther away from the track. It was probably intended to be far away in pulse, but the PSP can only handle so much. Remember that the detail levels allow SL to do things to the track they couldn't on the handheld, including changing draw distance of background objects.(i.e. buildings, traffic, and other scenery;))

I will defer opinion till I actually get my hands on the finished product.

I think SL might be deferring FURY release on comments posted here.
Which is a nice thing [tweak to overall preference ]
It's NOT going to effect game play at all,so why not [while the chance permits] change it.
IMHO it looks a bit TRON like.
Either the contrast has been ramped up.or a sort of black outlining has been added to everything.
Just my 2 cents worth.

i'll stop aguing if i were you, DD777 is a nice psp player, so he knows the tracks.

and even if a Day-Night was a good idea, there is no reason SL could do that.

now the only thing that still bother me is the presence of the same domes from tech de ra ( who are there for a reason, since they are sort of greenhouse for plants growt using the hydroponic metod ) in amphiseum, it's not good if they recycle parts...

would have been to good to be true have a " fury " versions of the old tracks set in different moments of the day/night...just images sebenco, sol 2 or vineta by night...

But tell me, why does ZONE lag? The new transition effect (from v1.30)
makes the game laggy. The game shutters if the effect kicks in. There is
also tearing on almost all tracks. Why? ...

there is a drop of framerate during transition.
don't know what is the min fps reached but the drop is disturbing, i agree.

but it doesn't happen every times, seems to happen randomly, and kind of thing we can easily relate to streaming... loading too much textures @ the same time.

The question is : why such a problem with that kind of unicolor textures? are they hi-res?

Ah Spece2goin, thx for answering. So I don't feel all alone here. :)

A texture-streaming problem? I guess it's more related to the new
added halo effect during transition, because it was a lot smoother
before v1.30. It isn't optimized just yet. Simple as that.

There are times were everything comes together in a very bad way like
the shuttering of the transition effect and the '1 / awesome' tearing right
over the middle of the whole screen. Just zone Moa Therma or Metropia
and watch framerate drops and tearing in action at the turn before the
start/finish line, respectively. In non-ZONE mode this isn't much of a
problem, the game even switches to a lower resolution if necessary.
However, in ZONE every frame counts.

AFAIK this problem on Metropia exists since the first patch (1.10?) was released.
And I like to think that every frame counts, no matter the mode you play in.
I also started getting lag again whenever a ship is destroyed, guess I was wrong about that being fixed... :(

That seems to happen whenever something New/Big/Shiny! happens in WOHD land. Right now every previously locked-out account is probably connecting to confirm that they're let back in.

If it's not gone in a day I'll be... disappointed...

being used to PC gaming, i thought that it was my system only, but everyone has the same power so...

@ ProblemSolver : ok it may only be the transition effect, but hey, it looks very simple, maybe they made it too detailed, using too much particles for something completly white...

i wish i could open it with an editor, lilke i did to see particle effects on UT3, then i could see how it's built, animated etc...

no, i told that ages ago, mine is bad case, and i'm pretty sure it wasn't there from start, but after a certain time it appears sudendly out of nowhere, after the first patch is supposed...but still not the only case of heavy frame rate drop in my game, i have a big one on ubermall as well , ubermall forward, just before the fork the big panda head cause frame drops


and a couple or more of others spread around...

for a short period enough to offset the craft at high speeds. For sure, one
can never have enough frames, but in ZONE it counts the most. It really
depends on the speed. The rate of change of position is usually much higher
in ZONE compared to RAPIER or PHANTOM speed on standard races. Hence,
those missing frames makes you blind flying for that period of time. In ZONE
all these little things add up and turn out to be very disturbing because one
has to be focused like nothing else if (s)he wants to explore into higher
zones and / or do more perfect ones.

@Spece2goin:
The mentioned frame drop on METROPIA is known quite well. And in ZONE
this drop is da B!tch. Btw; METROPIA is only an example for one track that
lags in ZONE.
